As a hardcore Grmer, this card is just what I need!
Excellent 👍
the fact you didnt replace all "a"s with "r"s is a missed opportunity, and it makes me sad
Grmer lol
Yeahh agree with u mee too
ye this card is hardcore for your eyes xD
Always worth having a card like that lying around just in case you need to test a faulty system.
Absolutely
This is why always get a CPU with iGPU.
Else, your system is a huge, expensive paper weight.
No idea why AMD, or rather Evil Su, didn't follow previous AMD's statement that APU is for mainstream/consumer desktop, iGPU completes a desktop. Having one is basically not a complete desktop.
@@AlfaPro1337 they have added iGPUs to all am5 cpus, except for the 7500F, which is a 7600 stripped of its igpu
@@AlfaPro1337 How does that make her "Evil Su"?
Also do you not recall that all of Ryzen 7000 have integrated graphics?
@t1e6x12 5 gens too late. . .and if COVID never happened, 7th gen would still be iGPUless.
Oh, before Evil Su, AMD top end had increased in core count AND maintains the US$300 price bracket.
Under her, you get a GLORIFIED LOW END 6C FOR TOP END PRICING!!!
Plus she went full Intel/Nvidia but made it worst.
You can't put AM4 chip on AM5, at least prior, like AM3 on AM3+ board
Plus, 7th gen should have been X3D from the start, but nope, Evil Su pulled the Nvidia Super stunt and charged more.
Oh, let's not forget that Evil Su copy-paste Intel gluing (P4D and early C2D and C2Q), 2S2P (2 socket 2 platform, which AMD called out Intel for being greedy in the era of LGA1366 and 1156).
You thought 7/9980XE asking price of US$2K is absurd? Try AMD latest TR 7995WX for 5 times the price.
Let's not forget that AMD followed Intel, by voiding warranty if you enabled XMP/EXPO. Note, Earth has other country and law, they don't adhere to NA/US.
The standout point here for me is how well optimized the Metro series of games are. Those devs are absolute experts, well done to them!
Can't wait for the next entry in the series! Amazing games!
the fact that ME:EE can do path tracing (pseudo PT anyway) on RX6600 at 60fps is insane.

There is something special to these videos , I like them a lot more than the videos about expensive stupid stuff that no one buys.
Honestly I prefer making these types of videos too
I value both types of videos. Watching someone do crazy things with a 96-core Threadripper is just as fun as watching a GPU render 10 FPS in 10-year-old games. 😉
As always, kudos for covering interesting, low-end budget, and occasionally niche tech. Bloody good stuff, mate, and cheers from Stateside!
Thats bloody fast shipping
Yeah fastest I’ve ever experienced 😁
Amazon can do it in hours if you live nearby to a distribution centre, fastest I've had is 2 hours, I used to work for them as a driver few years back, bloody hard work not for the faint hearted, and lots of long days and hours, sometimes no days off so 7 day weeks, but the pay is amazing, and you are self employed which has it's benefits and downsides, but now Amazon is turning into Wish and Temu with really dodgy fake cheap stuff which could set your house or car on fire, go watch the video Louis Rossmann just put out about fuses, shocking but I'm not surprised as I know first hand the practices that go on in the company.
@@RandomGaminginHD It happened to me . Store called to say they don't have product on them and I need to wait for supplier 5 working days at most but 3 minimum. They woke me up tomorrow morning , package arrived . I was dumbstruck like never before.
It’s just good to see some overclocking. So many YT channels shy away from overclocking, well that and older tech.
Im so hyped , my work was throwing a pallet of HP pavilions , I took em home expecting gt710’s, I5/i3’s, Hdd’s… so far they are all gtx 1060’s , I7 6700 & 7700, with SSD’s wtf did I stumble on! I got like 20 of em and that was after they threw a bunch away.

It is bad when Amazon has become a bigger scam and cesspit than even ebay. That is an achievement. Cheers for the content
I no longer trust them for most things, especially electronics and car parts. I'll go to known distributors for those.

Put together a new 1080p machine based on your recommendations (RX 580 + Ryzen 2600 combo), and I'm having a blast! Thanks for the info, man, appreciate it.
Nice! I built a Ryzen 5500 + RX 570 last month. A very nice PC for 1080p GTA V
When the card comes with VGA connector, you just know the performance waiting in there 😂
😅
Considering the GTX 580 is 1200% better according to techpoweredup and I manage to get one for €7 I don’t think that R5 220 brings much bang for the buck😂 but it does use a lot less power.
With one caveat though, GTX 580 will suck power like a black hole and heat your room. I had a GTX 570, so trust me, I know.
You have a point. With myself, having played video games and watching the graphics change over the years, I can appreciate going from Pong to todays games because that's what I started with.
Very well done technical video. Thanks very much!
My first systems donor GPU was a 5450 2GB lol
Just something to display until I got my R9 270X 4GB
To add, I just picked up an RX550 for $50 that I tossed in a $30 Inspiron with an i3 7100 and 16GB ram that came with a 21in 1080p monitor as well. It's a nice and quiet rig for emulation or lower spec'd backlog games (My main is a laptop rn) Your channel has influenced on a few of my builds over the years :) Found the magic in buying second hand
This level of performance brings me back to the good old times when I came back from over 10 years long hiatus, my first rig was a ThinkPad with 1920x1200 15 inch screen, intel T9300 (swapped with x9000 some time later) and integrated quadro FX 570M (Geforce 8600GT). I bought a docking station and with Radeon 6670 (or 6570?) 2GB version with GDDR5 I was able to play pretty much any game I liked (at PCI-e gen 1 x1!). I still remember when I figured out I can install hybrid drivers and use PhysX on my quadro while the game was being rendered by the docked Radeon card. Good old times if you ever want to build a bizarre system hook me up :)
Grmers , well that's very authentic!
Thanks for including the classic Half Life 2 Lost Coast! Best option for weak PCs! Anyone on crap gear should also try out GMod, Portal, TF2, Left 4 Dead, CS Source. Still valid games!
If you can crank the Windows display drivers to give you a desktop at "4K" resolution, they're technically not lying :)
Yeah good point
If the card is old enough it might not be able to generate a (remotely worthwhile) 4K signal, even with a static desktop.
@@tz8785 you are correct, hdmi 1.3b maxes at 2560*1600. this card cant even display 4k in any way shape or form.

Look at that fan, thats so cute!
I understand it's not a popular title, but, is it possible that you add dcs world 2.9 or steam edition to tests on graphics cards or processors? there's not many out there ;-;. Your videos helped me quite a bit last time I built a pc hahaha love the way you narrate things
Grming is one of my favourite hobbies
I swapped my ATI 5450 for a rx580 last year, and can confirm those things could barely run csgo and were only comfortable with tf2, roblox and some indie games. Truly a grmer card
I'm quite shocked an R5 220 can run GTA V at all. Great video!
Why? They came out within 3 months of each other.
@@dmac1259 The Radeon HD 5450 was a graphics card by ATI, launched on February 4th, 2010

Thanks for the video. I would be interested in video playback for 4k videos, or at least 1080p. If the fan could be controlled so it was quieter, that might make a good HTPC video card.
I recently bought a sapphire vaporX HD5850 2gb at a price of $17. The memory chips are soldered on both sides, metal backplate (without perforation). Full of dust and smell from 2009.🤣 Bought to complement the retro PC build (replace the zotac 9800gtx+ 512mb/ddr3). The CPU cooler Thermaltake big typhoon 120VX was also purchased.
Holy crap...! I just compared this card to the puny GF 940 MX that's built into my ageing laptop and, according to passmark's benchmark, it's 91% slower than that laptop card. 40 Ops/s vs 1749 Ops/s. But at least it's about twice as fast as the Radeon 9700 Pro I used to use over 20 years ago...
Can't believe you got some of those games to run on that kind of hardware. Still: Selling this as a "gaming card" for even 20 GBP is borderline theft, IMO.
well the gpu architecture is over 13 years old so it's probably close to that 20 year old radeon 9700 pro in terms of technology
@@stephenallen4635While it would definitely be closer, I can tell you that it's not very close because technology used to advance at a rapid rate. So 20 years to 13 years would be a totally different set of architectures and systems in every way.
An 8450 should use an architecture for the vliw4 platform since it is from the Radeon 6000 family which was the last of the vliw cards.
940MX is surprisingly capable, especially if it has GDDR5 like in some models. I got Elite Dangerous to bounce around 45-60fps at 1080p and non-enhanced Skyrim was also bafflingly nice to play at that resolution too.
@@TK-rs9lq Yeah, that laptop has a ..errr 7th gen Intel CPU and uses DDR4 (which was pretty new tech at the time I bought it). It's a very basic i5 (7200U). I don't recall exactly, but I'm pretty sure the card relies on system memory (at least in part). In any case, things like Civ V or even VI, Battletech, HoI4 and CK3 all run surprisingly well on this laptop in 720p with medium details. Load times both when starting a game and when loading a save-game or a new level are atrocious however - SSD's too small to install games on it. I also needed to buy one of those laptop "cooling"-pads with a fan underneath to keep temperatures under control while gaming... :D
@@1SaG Similar story! 6th Gen Acer 15 E5 575 (maybe?). Weird Micro SATA NVMe that blew my socks off (first encounter with an SSD) and that GPU chip. Battletech* was a little, erm, interesting with a single stick of DDR4 but otherwise absolutely no complaints. I'm not sure about if the GPU used system RAM on top, but it definitely does have 2Gb of dedicated memory in both DDR3 and GDDR5 configs.

What's so funny about that
Not bad at all as a 2D display adapter. I have its 5000 series brother card and its been fantastic for troubleshooting purposes on machines that I've worked on with other GPU issues. Most cards like that also fit into low profile PCs if you change the bracket and relocate or remove the VGA connector.

I had a TV PC back in the day with an HD5450, I think. It might have been an HD3450. But in any case, it was fine to connect an HDMI TV to where I was running XP Media Center edition and actually using the DVR capabilities. Good times.
3450 had 40 cores vs this 220 have 80 55nm vs 40nm
I still have a NVIDIA GT 210 just for testing purposes laying around.
And this Card you showed is perfectly for that. So it is still worth it to keep around
bit of a tip: you can use this together with a P106-100 with modified drivers for better performance if your motherboard has two full-size PCIE X16 slots.
It's the Radeon HD 5450! (after I think 4 rebrands - is that a record?!) What a legend of a card!
EDIT: Lost Coast running at 42fps in 720p? Darn! I ran that on a Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB at I think 1280x960, highest settings without anti aliasing.
Ah yes, the HD6450, a card that I unfortunately had to play GTA Online on for a few days while my main PC was having issues
It was paired with a good old Pentium E4500 and whopping 3GB of DDR2 RAM, and surprisingly, on the absolute lowest possible settings, GTA was actually playable
Haha surprised that it was playable, though I used to have the e5200 and it was pretty good at the time. Great overclocker as well
How the hell, my brothers pc for the time had i5 3570k, 12gb 1600mhz and hd6450 1gb ddr3 version and gta5 was completely unplayable
@@Ciffer-1998 playable is stretching it, i was playing 800x600 at 50% resolution scale and was averaging 15-25fps, but it was good enough for some online missions cause i was grinding cash for a car haha
this 220 is equivalent to hd6350 with 80cores vs your hd6450 160 cores
This has nothing to do with this video but I can't wait to see him run the 8600g through its paces.
I heard it as 'built for gurners' rather than grmer which is when people make weird facial expressions often older people with their teeth out (remember the Police Squad bank scene). Seems a fitting description for this card especially when you start seeing the performance of games. The HD6450 is a 200 gflops gpu so right in the same area of performance as the old Xbox 360 and PS3 except a lot more memory and most likely a lot more CPU power depending on PC. Obviously no where near the same optimisation in games though. Feels like decent value at £20 if you just need a graphics card and will only be doing very light gaming.
Nice video
And here I was feeling guilty for going with a 1060 3GB as a placeholder GPU for the PC I put together for my wife as a Christmas present. There’s always worse out there I suppose, but for the $40 I spent it’s been a surprisingly decent card overall. Luckily she’s only just started with her journey of getting into PC gaming, so she’s been content with playing older/lighter titles like Fall Guys, Minecraft, Paleo Pines, and Ark: Survival Evolved just to name a few. Outside of scenarios where the 3GB of VRAM becomes a limitation, I can’t say I’ve been disappointed in the nerfed version of the good ol’ 1060
Cards like these are interesting. Yes display adapters. If modern enough they are decent enough choice for viewing some movies and doing some light work... if it didn't have that fan...
I bet those lower resolutions in your testing of these types of cards would probably look better on CRT monitor than a modern monitor.
We need more budget GPUs
You should try throwing battlebit at cards like these with how easy the game runs I assume it'd get at least 60 fps
I’m a true grmer, after this video. Thanks man
I'm pretty sure I do have one of these in my box of extra parts and I keep it these days just in case I have to test something where I don't have another graphics card.
When I actually used it actively in a work PC more than 10 years ago, I can tell you that it couldn't play any games back then either. It literally failed at games like League of Legends or other RTS games.
It couldn't play games like Left 4 Dead or Half-Life as you show at the end where it is struggling to get 40 FPS in 720p. However, it was quite good for my quad monitor work setup where I looked at spreadsheets and other work stuff all day.

It's incredible on how little you can spend and get a lot out of it, if I could put that thing in my laptop, it would be a world of a difference.
the big box could have fooled me some time back.
Heck, for the specifications I would say this card is doing quite well even for the resolution. We have seen other higher spec cards that couldn't even load in all the textures, so...

I have been very happy with my MSI Aero 4 gig RX6400 for 1080p, cost £99 last year, plays Star trek online at max setting, has a max power draw of 53 watts......so cheap to run, games fine at high settings.
Sounds perfect for emulating N64 PS1 titles and playing 90s and early 2000s titles and indie games in 1080p or hell 800x600 if you have a crt.

The same GPU's that are in those dell office pc's, big corps renew their workstations periodically and these are sold as refurbished.
I buyed one, R5 430 and they are pretty good for movies if you're using the MPC-HC on windows but, for games, well, medium to low to no shadows or AA at maximun of 1024x768 lol, most of these have a bandwidth of 64bit so, not for games over 2012.

My GPU in my first PC was a 6450. In 2011 I purchased my first PC, a Dell XPS. That card could play Minecraft like nobody's business, but I soon upgraded to a 6950. 5 or 6 years ago I upgraded again to an R9 280X and that system, that 2011 system, lasted me until 1 year ago, when I finally built a new computer from scratch. I still have the old one and it works fine, but it was time yet again for a GPU upgrade and the motherboard wasn't compatible with newer GPUs.
6450 had 160 cores vs this 220 80 cores - same tdp same 40nm process
At £20 it's not bad as a backup to keep around if you don't have anything better, and would have been good during the shortages. It'd be interesting to see how it copes with some proper old titles like KOTOR, Doom3, Vampire etc. If my main GPU had blown up during the shortages and I didn't have a backup; i'd look for something like this and try and clear out some old titles from my backlog. (Fortunately my slightly pre-pandemic 5700XT held up fine and I didn't have to dig up the Vega56).

A R3 220? Oh, the Display-adapter :P Back in the days i had seen a few of those in OEM PCs and even sometimes in shop... the shops charged ~40€ for them - the same as for the R5 230 (which is about TWICE as powerful).
And still seeing GT 630, GT 710, R3 220 being used as garbage display-adapters nowadays. They work with older software, but for modern things these cards can actively make the system slower.
It might be based on/rebrand all the way back to the 5450. Looking forward to those 4k graphics!
Thanks!
If someone is truly looking to spend only this much, you could get an RX 550 for nearly the same price. It’s by no means a high performer, but it will run circles around this. And most of them don’t require any supplemental PCIe power cables.
