- Last week I purchased a box of 22 untested graphics cards for £99 ($114). The exact specifications were a mystery to me, but I couldn't resist buying these just to see what we got and whether any of them were working.
It's safe to say I got a few pleasant surprises!
Thanks for watching :)
My dad hates gaming with a passion, and I still remember when he took me to the electronics store to get my first PC and insisted to get one that could not play any games at all. Guys like him are probably why the GT 210 is still selling, if he read in a review that it was unable to play games at all he would consider it a feature.
Why such the hatred for gaming? Lol
@@jakestocker4854 because it is a waste of time
@@mtaufiqnmtn nearly every hobby can be considered a waste of time.
@@mtaufiqnmtn is this Garchamps dad? Lmao
@@jakestocker4854 In early 2000's the media had quite a critical stance when it comes to gaming(to say the least). So my parents always thought i would end up somehow damaged by lots of counter-strike.
p.s. They still hate games claiming there is a huge difference between board monopoly, chess and PC gaming.
The best one was obviously the Quadro P620, it has the same GPU as the GTX 1050, but it's a cut down version with 512 cuda cores with 2 gigs of Gddr5, should beat the GTX 650. Overall, the box did worth it if everything runs fine
Yeah I’ll have to benchmark the quadro properly soon 😁
Yeah that one gave me a bit of false hope for the remainder of the box. lol
@@RandomGaminginHD I use these on daily basis in my office, making some serious design work. Used them for 5+ years without problems.
I came here to say this. The performance falls between an gt 1030 and 1050
@@RandomGaminginHD 8400 GS 3-way SLI !!! 😁😁😁😁😁😁
Those fanless cards are still pretty handy just as display outs. I use an old fanless GT520 in my NAS box because I want it as quiet as possible. You don't really need a display out for a NAS after you set it up, but it is nice to have in there for when I need to do trouble shooting. That Quadro p620 was a surprise.
One another usecase are untested motherboards since they can theoretically burn your GPU so You'd better have a bunch of "display outputs" just in case of troubleshooting unknown(especially older ones that usually go to "last hope" examination) MoBos or even whole cases.
5 years ago the GT 520 on my HP prebuilt started going bad.
I had the same GT520 as my gaming card back in 2011. I hate it with passion.
I literally just bought a untested Asus GTX 960 4GB from a thrift shop yesterday for less than 4€ and it turned out to work perfectly :)
Talk about a steal
Great value. What a legendary find.
Ah the 8400gs. The card that made San andreas feel like GTA IV. As in, performance-wise. Had this card as a stop gap between 6600gt and GTX 260. That was the first time in years that I completely stopped gaming for a while simply because the 8400gs was so terrible.
I had a 8400m thare are 3 types of them
I had luck that i had a one with 16 uni shaders stil with a 64bit bus .
Still play the game Fallout 3 with custom ini file in 1024/768 .
What time is that .
BRO! the 8400gs + Pentium 4 was my config when I first played Assassins' Creed 1. great memories
9600 gt was my first gpu. Man was that a good card for the time
Damn i still have one installed on i3 3220 pc... I know its dog is slow but i dont have onboard video output from mobo, so cant help it. my new pc got stolen from my business so went brokeass for old pc. Ryzen 3700x 16gb ram 3070 256gb nvme drive.
They're really good for Windows XP builds to play games from the early 2000s, I have a few machines I use for retro LAN parties
I do love a box of "untested" graphics cards. Always fun seeing if you get your moneys worth.
Absolutely love this one Steve! U could easily pull off longer format videos! I'd love to see u build a Core2Quad/AMD Phenom XP Retro system with that R7 or that 650! Even if it took an hour, LGR style! I'm sure ur audience will love it!
13:28 Interesting cooling solution
The DMS 59 connector was a way for businesses to hook up multiple monitors from one port, by splitting DMS 59 to either Dual DVI or Dual VGA. I had an ATI Radeon HD3450 with one of these, and just bought a DMS-59 to HDMI conerter since I have a lot of spare HDMI cables (plus all of my monitors are HDMI).
The GT 710s are really useful for media PCs, as they have built-in 1080p hardware video encoder/decoder for streaming video, even if you're running on an old Pentium 4 with Linux or something. The 210 and 610 would probably struggle with that but would still be great options for office machines just needing display outputs.
Hey man you’re looking much better. You seem leaner and your skin looks brighter.
What ever you’re doing keep it on.
And keep the great unorthodox content as well, you’re a great asset to the UA-cam tech community .
My account is older than dinosaurs and you’re one of the few channels I’m subbed to
He was pentrated
Kind of a weird comment to make on a channel about computers lmao. Just saying because it would make me uncomfortable.
The amount of effort it must take to test all these graphics cards with downloading the drivers etc then deleting them over and over must take a lot of time top marks to you 😁
Hey Steve :) I know your videos are usually on the shorter end, but personally I would love it if you made more videos like this, or even longer honestly
You're always so calm and relaxed, it's just really nice to hear you talk for a while
I can't wait for the benchmark video 😊
The Quadro P620 will make an amazing transcoding card for Plex or Jellyfin. The lot is worth it for that card alone. That card is basically a cut down GTX1050 with less cuda cores.
I have an M620 with basically the same specs but using a GTX 950M chip cut down to 512 cudas too
Its almost the same as a P620
But it is mobile workstation card
It also isn't all that much slower than an actual 950M which is surprising
hey man im doing this school dissertation thing and the topic im doing it on is 'the evolution of graphics cards since 1999' and im supposed to ask an expert or someone experienced about stuff but none of my friends or family know anything ab graphics cards other than the vague explanations ive given them so i figured id ask you :) i was wondering what in your opinion is the most influential graphics card release since '99 - like a real ground-breaking gamechanger of a graphics card. love ur videos man, youre one of my fav tech youtubers by a long shot and id really appreciate it if you took the time to help me out!!
I dont think a single one will do
Well if you're limited to 1999 : GeForce 256 released the same year and basically kickstarted modern GPU era, before 1999 you should look into 3Dfx. Later GPU brought Vertex and Pixel Shaders that obsoleted a lot of older fixed functions pipeline but I don't remember that it was widely seen as a ground breaking gamechanger.
You should also look into Integrated GPU or Console GPU that may have helped bringing proper 3D graphics in every households.
Some notable game changers from old to new: GeForce2 Ti, GF3, GF4 Ti, Radeon 8500/9700/9800 -- era of DX8 and so-called shaders, Radeon X1800/X1950, GeForce 6800 -- era of DX9, Radeon HD 2900XT/3850/3870, GeForce 8800 -- era of DX10. Those were the rapidly evolving technologies where it suddenly would not be enough to know how much RAM and Processor speed one had to have, people had to follow closely what version of API they had hardware support -- it was a hell between DirectX 8/8.1/8.1b/9/9b/9c and if they didn't then it was game over because each step came with new generation of GPU. Also this was where AGP bus got taken over by PCI-Express -- some cards were made for both types of slots and some weren't so it was another headache for an enthusiast.
Cool, I like these suprise unboxings. That P620 alone makes it worth halfway already (a perfect candidate also for your style of benchmarking). Quadros are quite popular on the 2nd hand market, in some cases also for games due to a relatively power efficiënt focus.
If a customer says "I just want a graphics card for anything but games!" I go get a Ebay Quadro. No fuss and they work nicely for photo editing etc. Super cheap too.
If that Quadro works then that'd make the whole box worth it, even if it's all e-waste gt-210s. Being a 1050ti equivalent with Pascal NVENC & Quadro specific drivers it can do some neat things with GPU passthrough & encoding/decode for a media storage & streaming box.
It's not equivalent to a 1050ti, it's a cut down 1050 so quite a lot weaker. The rest is correct yes.
@@kajurn791 Like half the performance, still a cool card though.
Use a box cutter next time, maybe I'll get my friend Gus to lend you one or something
Your friend Gus seems like a good lad
2:42 As soon as you announced the Quadro P620, I said oh if that one works it's worth the whole purchase price! Not for meant for gaming (but still twice as fast as the GTX 650). They fetch good prices for use in workstations for CAD, and for home server Plex video encoding.
I loved this video! the way you talk about the cards is exactly how i feel about pcs. Please do more of these little bit longer ones
Awesome video, it's always fun to have a mystery box. I recently traded an old broken laptop for a gigabyte gtx680 2gb 3 fan card. It was in rough shape. Someone had taken the shroud and cooler off, then attempted to reassemble it. A few missing screws and the cooler could move around. After a thorough cleaning, new thermal paste, and scrounging up some screws; I crammed it in a Dell studio pc that had been given to me, and it works great. Temps rarely see 60c, that's something for a case with so little airflow. Even though it's old, I've never owned such a high end card, and it's running on a 450w psu. Just started an og Skyrim playthrough on it, such a blast

I used a 1GB DDR5 R7 250 for quite a few years before it died unexplainably. It is actually a quite capable card as long as you keep the resolution at 720p or maybe 768p. I'm really curious to see how that card would perform in newer games mainly because of the VRAM limitations.
The R7 250 is a really great GPU if you know the limitations of it.
Bought the Sapphire 1GB GDDR5 model for 30€ a bit ago to put it in an i5-2400 build and it can run pretty well many games even some new ones (mainly new free games).
The best things out of this card are the low power consumption (max of 65w TDP),no pin needed,it has official overclocks by AMD and supports DirectX 12 in all of the games I tried.
I would like to see it tested in those AAA games that I don't own like Cyberpunk or Elden Ring just for curiosity.
I have a aokaman gddr5 4gb r7 250. I BOUGHT it 20 dollars and so happy until I found it 1gb GPU fake bios. But still GDDR5 memory. It crash under usage over 1gb video memory.
If it's DDR3 though, its performance is cut in half.
@@airmicrobe flash it with the correct bios man and you're good to go
@@airmicrobe for what I know the maximum VRAM of the R7 250 is 2GB for the GDDR5 and 3-4GB for the DDR3 version but I could be wrong.
As the other person said find the correct bios for it and flash it,you should find some guides online if you have problems and that should do the trick.
You should be able to enjoy some recent games decently but you could have some stutters because of the VRAM size.
@@klocugh12 True, but it's good too thanks to its clocks even if the GDDR5 is far better.
Difference is that finding the 2GB GDDR5 model, which is a sweetspot for low-end gaming,is harder and more expensive than finding the 2GB DDR3 model.
The 1GB GDDR5 is pretty good but stutterings and frame drops are a lot more common on many recent games, like I can play RE2 Remake on it on 60 FPS with decent graphics but it has some stutters because of the VRAM.
The little quadro is a “beast” compared to the others … test that one ! You will be suprised! I use it for emulation and retrogames and it is superb !
My favorite channel with almost 500k subs with the same video quality and set quality as a guy with 20 subs in his grans basement.....never change HD never change
Love these videos, even if they are a loss it’s really cool to see past hardware
These videos are amazing! Love watching these untested videos. Keep on going with these, please.
Awesome video! like a PC enthusiasts' raffle. Could I suggest an overhead camera? it would be great for recording B-roll of a product whilst you do a voiceover and it would be perfect for stuff like this. Hope this helps! 👍
When the first card is a 210 you know you're in for a good time.
Saw this on eBay and was curious myself, honestly so pleased you are scratching that itch for people like me!
I love this man , truly he is just a genuine person
Geforce 210 can also run Microsoft Office at 2k, you can't beat that :)
I'm a bit of a sucker for Quadros, and that P620 looks very interesting!
It's the best card in the lot.
@@MandoMTL The P620 is great for Plex servers.
Yeah it should run fine, the r7 260 might also be great
I also like the 710 and 730 cards. Ideal for motherboards with broken onboard display ports. Also was good enough to upgrade my dad's PC to allow my niece to play Minecraft. Definitely still have a role even today!
I thorougly enjoy these cheeky homely pc hardware videos. I hope you keep making them. :)
I always enjoy a big box of random hardware.
A video on the 8400 GS would be interesting, the came in a ton of different specs (8/16 cores) ddr2/3 gddr2/3, and the performance is absolutely trash, mine is about 4 times slower than my 8600gts...
It might be one of the weakest pcie GPUs ever...
Thare is a 8400 with 128bit memory bus.
That would be soo helpful 😭, im currently using the 8400gs and a video from one of my favourite UA-camr on it would make me and potentially other PC enthusiasts very happy....
@@gauravsachdev2255 you should try overclocking it, i got something like 30 more perf on it, got mine close to 1ghz on air...
@@tomthb8439 that's the problem, I can't take any risks with it, since i have to keep it alive for one more year,if something happens to it I'll be PCless so.....
i use a 8400 gs in my main rig its better than my cpu lol (cpu is a amd athlon x2 220)
Most of these are absolutely fine if all you wanted is a display adaptor for basic desktop work. Or if you want to do some retro-gaming or something they're fine for that. Or if you want to add an additional display port to an existing machine for multi-monitor.
An R7 250 was my daily driver some time ago. Worked fine for basic gaming, honestly. I'm not someone who needs 200fps in 4k to enjoy a game!
I'm legit impressed it was not a good deal despite it being almost two dozen GPUs. You can make some money selling them on office PCs with Ryzens and xeons i guess?
Being able to sell 'em all and make at minimum double what you paid isn't a bad deal in my book 😅
Some people don't play any games at all, you bunch of closed minded cacti.
Always prepared for a fairly long one from you mate :D
Great vid, love these mystery boxes ;)
Your dog is onto something, I feel as if I deserve a treat after a good sleep too.
i don't know why but i enjoy content like this 🗿
The 8400 GS would be a great card if you could get Win9x drivers working for it. I have had luck with other NVidia PCIe cards working fine under 98SE/ME though. Depends on your motherboard and the brand/model of the GPU…it can be hit or miss. For XP and later the 8400 GS and GT 210 are as you said display adapters unless you are playing some very basic games.
I'm looking forward to a budget build with not only one of the cards but also the box as a case.
i wish i had that many old gpus. great content! keep it up!
Used to have an MSI GTX 650 1GB in 2019. Served me pretty well as far as AAA games upto 2014 are concerned, and even the newer less intensive titles.
The bubble wrap is probably worth more than the cards.
Would be super interested in a p620 review. Used these in many workstations!
Really liked this video - always interesting to see what will come out of the box next.
Sounds like you're ready to build a bunch of Core 2 Duo retro gaming rigs with that haul!
That is pretty much what you would use 210s for.
I'd argue that P620 is likely the most valuable card - 2GB GDDR5 is way more memory than most of these cards and you should be able to get £70+ on eBay for it. Its performance should be far better than most cards there too.
Watched half the video so far and it's like winning a prize consisting of crushing disappointment and crippling debt so far.. . Hoping it gets better from here
Finished the rest, it's like watching your uncle win the shittiest prize out a raffle where the top prize was a weekend break to Bournemouth with a Travelodge breakfast voucher.

the gt610´s and 710´s are decent for office work and the gtx 650 is ok for low end gaming.
not worth a lot but better than the rest by far.
Just an avarage joe like us… love your content. Btw hair looking fresh… 😎
My step dad's rig has a gt 210 in it that I pocketed from when I worked at goodwill, they would throw all parts away... So I felt no shame in stealing it. It was a gigabyte model with a fan. The guy doesn't use his computer for anything besides netflix and to tell the time with his screensaver... Old people... So anything with an HDMI port.
So fun that I got a box with almost the same gpus. Had the 5450, 6450, 8400 gt, a pegatron card, two firepros and a r9 270. Basically gave them all away for like 30 euros lmao
Quadro P620 is a great little card! Up until quite recently I used to run one in my dedicated streaming/capture pc.
I agree with your dog... sleeping should be rewarded with food!
That look with an expression not to be found on his face saying.. "Oh no"
Ha. Seeing CP2077 at 720p with the aggressive FSR made it look like a modern-retro game, like it was playing on a CRT or something.
I actually think stuff like this can be incredibly fun. I used to do the same with old phones, just buy a cheap box of them and see if they worked and if they could be fixed up.
Really loved the video, You are a good lad, love all of your videos. this one is especially nice because of the flipping possiblitly
You always make me feel nostalgic
RandomGaminginHD basically cleaning the marketplace junk and defectives
My cat is exactly the same, but he is a rescue and used to live on the streets and thus always seem to think he will never be able to eat again.
This is for some reason relaxing to watch
may i be the first to say: sleeping does in fact deserve a treat, as he is clearly a good boy!
genuinely the best tech channel
A box of nostalgia, indeed. My first graphics card is a GeForce 210, a card so slow it couldn't run vanilla Left 4 Dead without turning down some graphics settings. Up next is a GeForce 610 - faster, but much better relegated to display duties rather than gaming. My current card is a R7 250, still works after all these years.
Love the ethusiusam while opening each package I am sure you will get the money back and maybe a little bit of profit
Untested most of the time is just another way of saying it doesn't work, at least you got something lol
Yeah this time they said untested but most should work haha
Yeah that's definitely true most of the time.
I know some people got some deals from me selling truly untested parts back when I was selling a bunch of builds and parts a few years ago.
Had a handful of really nice Intel boards that would cost me more to get a CPU and test than I'd make just selling them off untested.
No, it just removes liability.
Feels like opening up presents on Christmas day, has it's up and downs too......
8400 GS hahaha. The 8600 GS was my very first GPU and it was...well it allowed me to play games, that's about it. went from that to a GTX 280 in 2008 and man was that a massive upgrade (before getting squashed very soon by BFG Tech as a company closing and DX11 coming out on the new cards.)
Buying a new and decent GPU these days is so so much easier.
Such a great start, a gt210 🤣🤣 life got some sense of humor
I swear my heart skipped a beat when you said "8400 gs" after pulling out the second card. Was running it with an i5 650 until I upgraded to a gtx 1050ti in 2018.
I bought 4 untested GPUs pulled from a supposedly working system and thankfully they all worked! A Zotac 9800GT Synergy, BFG AGP 7800GS, Galaxy AGP 6600GT and a dream card of mine, an XpertVision FX5900XT, my first PC had an XV FX5200 so seeing the performance difference was huge! Lovely bunch of Old but gold AGP GPUs for £25!
Ahh! The GT 210, I have such fond memories I have of that card. ❤
The 210 Facepalm in the beginning of the video was best 😂😂
"Be prepared for a long one..." I admit - I sniggered! :D
The P620 pretty much paid for the lot. nice work!
Good find there, even if a few of the cards were the same as each other. Also, you're right, the GT 210s are awful, in fact I'd go as far as saying a GT 210 is worse than the integrated graphics of your CPU (if you have anything remotely modern), so only really useful as a display adapter, for multiple monitors.
If you're going to sell any of these then I'd be interested to find out where you're listing them, as I know of at least one machine I have that could do with having a GPU on the cheap. It would be paired with a 2nd gen i3, 4GB RAM and a 500GB HDD.
Near the end when you were listing the cards my head was hearing and a partridge in a pear tree
I got 2 GTX 770's off ebay the other day and both arrived tested and seem to be working fine. Best thing was I only paid £37.50 each for them.
That R7 250 is supported by Nimez drivers. So, it does have support. Sort of. From the modding community, not the manufacturer.
Exactly
this gt 710 has no GPU fans, but a fan GPU 💀👌
As far as I recall, R7 250 is a relatively good one as well, even with HDMI broken. GT(X?)650 can be sold as "within MSR for Syberpunk" at this point🤣
the r7 250 is a decent card, i had one. did ok in some games. didnt test too many demanding games. the if you go to cex then the gtx 650 and r7 250 are not that different in price. you dont get any driver issues with the r7 in windows 10(ironically the r9 370 has terrible issues). he wont get a lot of money back unless he does a bundle, but will get a decent return. its bad how someone list this box for that much when majority of the gt 210 & 8400gs can be had for a fiver or less each.
the gtx 650 is to this day still usefull in low end gaming.
can easily run games like hoi4 on low settings.
its probably worth the most out of that whole box.
6:47 that FirePro is literally a HD 5450 in disguise
Also try the NimeZ drivers with that r7 250
Yess I have an R9 290 and use nimez, it’s really nice
Sleeping should always be rewarded with food.
It's a very taxing thing to do.
Especially for a puppers.
Probably been said but you can get adapters to convert the DMS-59 signal to VGA or HDMI if you're interested in testing that card at any point
I had loads of dual DMS-59 cables laying around years ago when I was buying lots of cheap Quadro cards. I think i kept a single DVI or VGA pair just in case...
im glad you explained what so far meant.
G'day Steve,
just came back to refresh my memory of what was in the box bfore watching the new "I Bought and Sold 22 Untested Graphics Cards - Here's How Much I Made" video 😁
I'd resell the P620, GTX 650, 5450 and R7 240 individually and lot the rest. You'll make profit without a major headache.
Love your channel buddy keep it up ♥️
Man got a lootbox from a time traveler
7:40 "this one is an... Oh no! Its an hd 5450 from amd" 🤣🤣
" he thinks that sleeping should be rewarded " ah yes classic dogs, mine thinks that if she asks politely, she is entitled to one, so she tends to come to me and give me a paw and if I catch her paw she is like " so where's the treat " by looking back and forth at me and the location of where I store her treats :D
Finally, not a graphics card test video
I had a Gigabyte 650 OC 2GB card that literally died like 3 weeks ago. Had the card since 2013 and when I upgraded to a 1050 ti put it in another system. Brings back many memories....
I bought a GT 210 a couple years ago. There was a specific purpose for it, sadly newer 710's seem to be going for 5x the price for a nice 210.
Mygosh, Christmas come early! I wonder if you could play indies on any of those, like Hades?
The P620 and GTX 650, for sure. The 5450, maybe?
It's a box of prebuilt PC GPUs... Lol. Great video!
