Kind of surprised Tasmanian devils didn't make the list despite him talking about them in a previous video. Basically, mother devils can give birth to over 20 children in a single litter, but only has 4 nipples. I’m amazed by thIs young man’s talent. His topics are interesting and he succeeds in teaching something worth knowing and being funny at the same time. He’s gained himself a fan 😄
Damn, those facts about the parasitic wasp is the most horrifying by far. Sisters who only exist to kill their brothers and die along with them once the job is done? That makes simple cannibalism in the womb of a shark seem normal by comparison. At least they don't have siblings who live to do nothing but end them.
@@Mernom Survival of the fittest. If you have one, it can be strong; have ten with a battle royale and there’s a good chance it’ll turn out stronger than if it was solitary from the start. Opting to have one come out of the womb with a tally of bodies from second 0 is almost certainly always better than the fresh and untested.
So by the sounds of it, I'd bet the womb-colosseum thing doesn't apply to bonnetheads. Let me explain. In case you've never heard of them, bonnetheads are fun-sized hammerhead sharks which treat crab-filled patches of seaweed as their own personal salad bar. They'll take a mouthful of weeds and hopefully some crabs along with it, and after doing this for enough generations, they actually picked up the ability not to waste the weeds they gulp down hoping a crab was in it, and are the only sharks that can actually digest seaweed. Which scientists proved by marking certain atoms in seaweed to see if they ended up as part of the sharks' bodies, which as it turned out, they did. What makes me suspect they may not do the sibling-rivalry-turned hunger games thing is that when I was reading more about them, I came across an article in which scientists were concerned about the genetic diversity of the bonnethead populations. As it turned out, the females seemed to each only be reproducing with one male, rather than having multiple mates. Which means that it actually has happened that some marine biologists looked at a bunch of sharks and went, "Uh-oh, these hoes are loyal!"
note, most of this is only true of *spotted* hyenas. the other 3 hyena species have very different life styles. while the spotted hyena is top predator that hunts most of their food and live in large clans, striped and brown hyenas are much lower tier on the food chain. more like jackals. in fact, the main reason we used to believe spotted hyenas were scavengers is because we knew about brown hyenas much longer, and they do tend to eat dead things. then you have the aardwolf which took 1 look at lions and said "you know what? maybe the Timon and Pumba diet isn't a bad idea"
Spotted hyenas suck up all the oxygen in the room, which is a shame as striped hyenas are at least as deserving of the attention. They're less aggressive, and can even be trained to hunt with humans, like cheetahs!
@@jessragan6714 spotted hyenas are actually misunderstood. There are high ranking males ua-cam.com/video/qHsuEa68xSQ/v-deo.html But the sibling part is true. Also hyenas are a keystone species meaning they have a huge role in the ecosystem by cleaning up phatogens and bones using their bone crunching jaws. ua-cam.com/video/SIYE9e-hcWU/v-deo.html

Striped Hyenas aren’t the bottom of the food chain, there’s videos of lone striped Hyenas stealing a kill from a wolf pack. Spotted Hyenas have a higher kill success rate than all the big cats.
The dishes analogy at the end lmao. Literally how it goes in my house. You should do one on caribou. They have to deal with nose botflies, warble flies, and will go stand in the ocean to get away from the unrelenting hordes of mosquitoes.
I've heard that they can just submerge themselves like a hippo but always thought it was strange they could just do that. Makes sense that it would be to get away from bugs.
Fun fact about nose botflies: in Autumns when they are most desperate to lay their larvae, they can mistake other animals for moose, and if they come across humans, they are known to spray the larvae in human's eyes, where they often need to be removed surgically.

My cat disregarded her own babies right after they born. She somehow put them in her litter. We had no idea why and looked to the babies. We found out that they were disabled... i personally spent 2 days without ANY sleep to keep them alive taking care of them while my cat was nowhere to be seen and also refused to breastfeed them. Well... the babies didn't make it, they were weak overall. I was shocked to see how she disregarded and never cared for them because she was actually a very caring mother. She would breastfeed their cups to the starvation, NEVER EVER let them leave her sight. When i take one of the babies she will be following me to death and never lose eye contact with her baby. So .... i totally agree when u say that there is no unconditional love in nature.
I agree on the like/sub thing. Extra props for the inclusion of the Parasite Queen boss music from Metroid Prime... appropriate for when it turns up. Best line: "4 years and a degree and I still can't speak English." Actually felt that one. Edit: misidentified the music
Casual Geographic: "Hyena cubs are born with their eyes wide open." Me: **remembers from previous videos how hyenas all get birthed through a penis** I really hope they can't remember that happening. But based on everything else hyenas have to deal with, they probably can.
I've always wondered how they handle that in zoos because obviously they don't want the female to die because then they would have to get another one....I wonder if they numb it up and cut it in half for her?🤔 Idk just a random thought
Putting him on a show would restrain his content, and honestly with the amount of followers and views he gets hes prolly doing well. Keep watching and linking his videos! Absolutely helps him more than having a show!
Wow. You're the first person to legitimately perfectly explain damn near in my own words on how people, or atleast I, view how and when and why I subscribe.
1: great content of the video and telling people about the messed up world that nature is. 2: Love the fact that you tend to use music from Metroid, Runescape, Zelda, and a few other games... (cause if it was just dead silence with no music it'd just be like a standard lecture but with a little more energy and cheerful give a damn.)
Y'know, there are two more good options I can add: Most fish (parents) and ladybug/bird larva. If you've ever had pet fish in kept in slightly warmer waters, one male to every three-four females (minimum), you'll most likely have eggs or live fry (Platies, Guppies and Mollies all give birth to live fish). Unless the tank has multiple small crevices, plants like Hairgrass (Dwarf or Long) or you move them to a smaller breeder tank, they'll most likely get eaten by their parents or fellow tankmates. If not the parents, the filter itself might suck them up if you don't have any prefilter media. That isn't the end of it either. These fish can lay anywhere from twenty to a hundred live fry, and cramping too many of them together can lead to infighting at roughly two-three weeks of age, killing off at least half of them. Easily fixed by giving them space, obviously, but it's still quite rough for them. The first of the Ladybug/bird (name depends on your country of origin) larvae to hatch will chew open the other eggs and eat their weakened siblings before they can even see daylight. Short and straight to the point, unlike the fish one (since I have more experience with fish). More positive/innocent tidbit: A bottom feeder known as a Corydoras Catfish is quite tame, almost entirely non-aggressive, and not known to eat other fry unless starved or upon accident, which is still quite rare. They'll commonly leave them alone, and won't even eat dead or dying fish. They're also freshwater fish that can survive in mildly brackish water if they were born and raised in it, or acclimated properly (still recommend keeping those levels close to the same parameters as their original enclosure). These are docile, mildly armored fish with durable skin/scales and the passivity of a blade of grass. To communicate, they seem to lie or the gravel/sand in a circle (or line) and just stare at one-another, occasionally moving their eyes in a quick downward motion. They don't do a whole lot, but they're cute little fish.
Meanwhile my angelfish get mad at me for LOOKING at their eggs. Betta fathers are also very good parents and look after the eggs diligently. Whats your opinion on dojo loaches? My friend owns some and they seem like sweethearts to other fish and are quite passive, even playful with tankmates
@@squirlis1189 I think they're quite adorable. Look a bit like eels. A friend of my was actually wanting some for his tank, but he has a 20-gal and wouldn't be able to upgrade to a larger tank. He went for a gourami instead (it's a mildly planted community tank. Not my best scaping job, but he was on a fairly tight budget, so I did what I could with that).

Like the 4 animals that got the shaft from nature the hardest as well as the 4 animals that got all the upgrades. 🙏🏾 I'm genuinely curious
Yeah, I was curious as to why this just vanished. UA-cam sucks like that. I think he's answered your question in a previous video... cheetahs rank pretty high due to their small gene pool, overreliance on speed, and extreme nervousness. I'd posit that pandas and koalas got the short end of the stick, too. One is massive but makes bamboo, which has little nutritional value, its primary food source. The other is known to have chlamydia and a brain so smooth you could shoot pool on it.
Sloths got nerfed hard. I don't know what koalas and pandas were like long ago but they're trash tier now. Pigs got nerfed but not nearly as bad as sloths and they're still a really viable build. Sharks and Crocs have been top tier since before the dinosaurs. They were built right and they just never needed to change.

Nothing like the horrors of nature to make you feel like your own family isn't so bad by comparison.

Damn, those facts about the parasitic wasp is the most horrifying by far. Sisters who only exist to kill their brothers and die along with them once the job is done? That makes simple cannibalism in the womb of a shark seem normal by comparison. At least they don't have siblings who live to do nothing but end them.
The truly weird thing is, why do the eggs clone themselves if most of them end up dying by design?
True, but I see it as population control. That's what those sister's are, like if we didn't have them, there would definitely be a lot of those wasps
@@Mernom Survival of the fittest. If you have one, it can be strong; have ten with a battle royale and there’s a good chance it’ll turn out stronger than if it was solitary from the start.
That's pretty interesting, thanks for sharing.

note, most of this is only true of *spotted* hyenas. the other 3 hyena species have very different life styles.
while the spotted hyena is top predator that hunts most of their food and live in large clans, striped and brown hyenas are much lower tier on the food chain. more like jackals. in fact, the main reason we used to believe spotted hyenas were scavengers is because we knew about brown hyenas much longer, and they do tend to eat dead things.
then you have the aardwolf which took 1 look at lions and said "you know what? maybe the Timon and Pumba diet isn't a bad idea"
Spotted hyenas suck up all the oxygen in the room, which is a shame as striped hyenas are at least as deserving of the attention. They're less aggressive, and can even be trained to hunt with humans, like cheetahs!

I've heard that they can just submerge themselves like a hippo but always thought it was strange they could just do that. Makes sense that it would be to get away from bugs.
Wherein they get clapped by sea Thanos...

Why can’t school teach like this guy :(
Because school society doesn’t want to hear a complaint from “sensitive viewers.” Just read the guidelines an buckle up on disturbing but knowledgeable facts.
Because too busy indoctrinating no time to teach
they are too busy turning out new cogs for the machine to actually teach you anything interesting or useful.
Because compulsory public schooling was only ever intended to educate kids just enough to become unskilled workers for the factories of the day. And yes, I'm being serious.

Yess someone noticed
This guys descriptions are so cold, emotionless, yet funny that i often have to skip back numerous times.
