I can hit a G#5 as my max with head noise while this guy does it no problem. Freddie was able to go up and down on his vocal range with ease. That is such an amazing talent, he is indeed the best singer and best frontman to ever exist.
Freddies range was F2 - F6 , he actually hit an F6 live, and F2 on All Dead, All Dead, and Bohemian Rhapsody, he can glide efforestly within that giant range, that's what made him special
Also an F6 in a live version of Get Down, Make Love. Although someone pointed out that he hits a C7 in It's Late (Maida Vale Studio Version), and also a C#2 in an interview.
I swear!!! This impromptu hits hard man!!! I'm with tears in my eyes!!! His falsetto is beautiful and deserves more recognition in my personal opinion!!
Guys, guys.. the talent in this performance is not necessarily RANGE; it rather is the fact that it's ORIGINAL, IMPROV & the fact that Freddie is doing it with effed up vocal nodules!!!!! Nobody can beat Freddie's originality, songwriting, stage personality etc.
Freddie's part is a 100% improvised, and you can see in the video when he gives his fellow band members the cue for playing their part. If you look at the concert from Friday (this is from the Saturday concert) his Impomptu is sung differently, but the music is still the same. Freddie also gives the cue to start playing then.
I don’t know how the tune started life, and it may well have been an improvisation at some point, but I can tell you the piece was also performed in the poorly-mixed 1985 Japan show you can find elsewhere on this very site.
The first night (also on YT) is where this song began. He doesn't actually know what to do and is more directive of the band. This is the second night, and he has it figured out.
If you listen to each of the 25 versions of impromptu available for the Magic Tour, Freddie’s vocals, Brian’s guitar, John’s bass and Roger’s drums are improvised. The piano was often very similar but may have been improvised offstage by Spike.
There are a few great voices out there now, but no one that I can think of to rival the complete package that Freddie was. He was complete. He wrote lyrics, music, took part in the production, he was a rockstar but gentle, he was smart but far from arrogant as a person, he worked hard and never really complained until the day he had to leave. As you say Nerve evreN, who can come close today?
The fact that they improvised this is mind blowing! It sounds like a song that any other band would only be able to compose in weeks but every single of Queen member is a musical genius so they can improvise melodies that would take others weeks to compose.
I don't think he was himself during this performance. Something was possessing him. He was a musical instruments himself. Greatest Entertainer that ever lived. Miss you freddie.
If there weren't video cameras in the 80s no one would believe the tales of Freddie Mercury's singing and performing. they would rightfully assume that tales of this was exaggerated.
Tim Foust, a bass whom I personally admire very much, has a 5+ octave range, but even he would say that he didn't have anything on Freddie Mercury - And I'd have to agree. He's a great performer, and worth traveling for just to hear him live, but Freddie had that one thing that I've yet to see in any other performer - That one special ingrediant that still has no name.
@Niranjan Rajesh Tim Foust has a 5+ octave range, and I didn't compare the two, I only mentioned his vocal range due to the comment above, exactly becuase it isn't the vocal range that matters, but the whole package and the ability to control the voice, which is why Freddie is way better (even though I'm a fan of Home Free and Tim Foust).
first time I heard it on CD I did not think it was human. Freddie your the best ever and never will forget what angelic voice you have:-)))))) No one comes close Steve I agree.
I think Freddie was perhaps getting sick of all haters who dissed him for lowering notes/ removing falsetto from his live performances. So he did this gig, which certainly silences many of those doubters.
@@stevens5541 So go and make them note dopey, so how hard it is. Also he has sung falsetto if you want prove I can see you them, and he has attempted high notes in a song, but you are not a Queen fan and you probably checked one or 2 concerts.
His voice was just at 4 octaves actually I believe if you include falsetto and whistle. The thing he had on almost everyone was projection, resonance, and amazing pitch control.
Freddie was a full tenor with a four octave range, maybe a bit more. When he wasn't out on tour he trained with a vocal coach to stay in form, you can tell. His voice lowered a bit as he aged, normal, cos he smoked. Every member of Queen took lessons when not touring, compare concerts. They all got better and learned new technique, total professionals!
I'm a little late to the dance, but the talent of these guys, and Freddie in particular, was amazing! It's sad that we never seem to fully appreciate our very best until after they're gone.👑
This is dedicated to every one who disliked and just came here to tell that he is gay or something. Go to a big concert stage as big as that and sing the same songs he did with same scales and without using falsetto, because I'm pretty sure your voice wouldn't reach so high without falsetto. Sing as many songs as he did in this concert before doing this, I'm sure any of you haters would handle it.
The first concert dvd I ever bought was the "Live At Wembley" 25th anniversery edition. Played the shit out of it and I am still amazed how stellar Freddie's vocal prowes was.

The first time I watched this concert on UA-cam, I was just listening and I was like, hey good shit Brian. Then I heard Freddie's "ah" after a jam and I was mindblown that a human being could produce such amazing sounds with just his vocal cords..
I am a BIG Beatles fan, but I have to agree... Freddie Mercury is the best...
One can love both equally you know, for me both are the best and I love them so much
