I am going to be using software to simulate different shapes and maybe honeycomb infills to 3D print my own panel. If it turns out well I'd be happy to provide details if you are interested in my take. ;)
@@glalih Tactical dot? Not sure what that means. BTW couldn’t get anything to sound as good as my tectonic BMRs so it was a good experiment and I got something better than tech ingredients here. But the BMRs are even cheaper lol so I don’t really care for it anymore.
@@glalih eek, alright dude. Hope you recover well. If you want the STLs of my 3d printed enclosure just ask! The driver is the tectonic 65, in the enclosure it is pretty close to flat, especially after some DSP.
I see Tech Ingredients now recommends using suspended ceiling tiles in conjunction with the foam.. The acoustic ceiling pannels have a fatter lower frequency response but lack great high end responce, they play well together. . Also the size of your foam board also can get the low end filled out as well , But yes add a sub to fill that 150hz and lower out. One of the large attractions for these is with flat screen tv's we all have you can make flat speakers to match.
I am very curious whether you decided to add a subwoofer or an extra two panels from balsa to get more bass into it. Love to see another video on that;)
I have 1" x 2" x 2" styrofoam panels using the Dayton Audio DAEX25X4-4 Bullfrog Vented Disc Spider 25mm x 4 - 40 watt Exciter. I have a subwoofer and I EQ the highs down. Truly incredible sound. Friends that hear these speakers cannot believe the sound that comes out, the clarity and huge sound stage. I would say that for optimal results, using a sub is a must. These speakers take very little power to generate loud audio.
got to use bigger panels like 2x4 at least , with a crossover/eq and a sub attached ... suspended from the ceiling correctly and 2 exciters per panel and you got the worlds best homemade speakers
Well done! Thanks for showing how easy it can be! Tech Ingredients sometimes makes it seem more intimidating than it is 😅 I'm gonna check your channel to see if you'd hooked it into your good amp
May be 7videos I've watched today, about this intriguing speaker builds, there's only one that is not impressed and he claims that he's ang engineer working all his life about sound. Al the rest made me think of looking for the materials to build my own. 👌👌
To be honest it’s all relative. This is not a replacement for traditional high end speakers, but for a budget build it is waaaaay better than it should be. I was legitimately impressed for the budget and the final product, that said if you are an audiophile these speakers will disappoint.
I found this video by typing "what amplifier for Tech Ingredients speakers". Still no answer to what amplifier to use... What is your "Mac" amplifier? Any help much appreciated.
That's cool.. I watched Tech ingredients video.. He does everything precisely to the science of art.. Can you just put a high frequency filter on those and create a sub woofer ?
You are getting high freq because your boards just hard attached to the shelf not allowing the boards to vibrate properly. Hang it on the thread, you'll find the low.
Why didn't you Mix the driver positions ? The frequency response will be evened out . Go back and watch Tec Ingredient ALL the way through . I had to watch it about 3 times . There is so much information there . I bought some sub-woofer drivers , they are on the way . I can't wait to play with them .
I used the spacing Tech Ingredient finally settled on. One of the other commenters pointed out that these sounded bright because they were hooked directly on my shelf. I went back and hung them from some fishing line and it changed the treble profile significantly for the better.
@@thebluevu1097 They "settled on" 2 positions . One at 2/5 down and 2/5 across , for ONE speaker and "dead nut center" for the other speaker . The differences in frequency peaks and troughs canceled each other out . That's why they sound so smooth . I am looking forward to seeing him do a show on a subwoofer panels .
There's a fatal flaw in ALL these types of Exciter speaker builds. It's pretty glaring, to an old pro speaker builder :-). Guess I should make a video of what it is, & then feel like the guy who called out "the emporer has no clothes". Yep... its a pretty glaring detail!!
@@sligit well, it's pretty-glaring to me, but I'm now self-building my 7th ECOhome after self-building the coolest micro cruising catamaran. Both in SW FL, USA, & a hurricane is fast approaching. Now that you see the potential, try the end grain balsa with a sub and your going to get some conversations started.

Good Tip about the dust. Appreciate!
I hung mine on some rubber bands and there is no vibration on the stands I made

You should have used a nylon thread to hang the board to prevent or minimize the vibration transfer.
Larger rectangular shape sounds fuller with more lower midrange. Smaller square panels are thinner sounding unless 2 exciters per panel are used.

Use a longer 2 x 5 foot for one of the panels, which might give a better low sound response

You can use Hot Glue on the cotter pins let it sit for 20 min.
Just use screws, coarse thread if possible - no drilling required. I use elastic bands to hang the dml's.

I'd love to hear you test it with some solo violin and solo piano, if you're in the mood to post more
Also - what about making a smaller one and coupling it to an expo or tractor horn!
