Another one of Marty's videos on the same thing - search for "Electric Guitar Lessons - Scales - Minor Pent. Root on A String Part 1" Thanks so much for this and all your videos Marty - after playing for years you've finally explained things that have allowed me to break out of my usual 'rhythm guitar' style and completely re-ignited my passion for playing guitar.
It's a heritage 335 with HRW pickups. These are special pups made for a limited time by Seymour Duncan for heritage guitar. They are named after Rendell Wall. One of the old guard at heritage that is was a 2nd generation gibson employee who stayed after Gibson left town in 84. Great git, with very rare pups. How can you tell? The black dot on the pup selector switch has a black dot. Only the gits with HRW's have the black dot.
Each chord progression corresponds to a key, for instance the chords E,A,B, are all part of the the key of E, so to solo with that you just have to be in the key of E. look up online a few scales to get you going. a great scale for the key of E is the E blues scale. look that up. Hope this helped.
I've found, concerning minor pentatonic roots, that: If the root note is on the: | E string | A string | D string | G string | B string | The position will work out to be: | 5 or 1 | 3 or 4 | 1 or 2 | 4 or 5 | 2 or 3 | Depending if you want the shape higher OR lower than the root note.
marty i watch your vids like every day on free guitars strings e mail i get i was wondering if you read this post do you think you could do a lesson on Peter Frampton Do You Feel Like We Do? I mean the intro lead and all the talkbox leads All the tougher parts is what im saying. Caus efor me at least the chords are basic but the lead ???? If you do this Thank you very much ahead of time!!!!
Hmm iv taught my self this by accident :o iv been playing little riffs like this for months. nice to have it explained though :D i love your videos marty, you're not boring as shit to listen to like some of them other videos.
marty, you should get a phone app! everyone has a smartphone thesedays, and it's just another easy way of getting your beginner lessons out for everyone to learn!
One other thing, great guitars, great woods, great tone, but many aren't setup well from the factory, so plan on spending some time or money to get it just right.
Can someone help me?? Lets say I'm doing a minor A pentatonic on the 12th fret of A (so one octave higher) Since that becomes my root now does that mean if I play the scale there (12th fret of A) would I have any notes to play on the low E? Likewise the 14th fret of G string is also an A, so would I skip all the notes on the E,A, and D strings when using 14th fret of G as my A root? Any help would be amazing
WTF????? i'm playing the same fucking notes over here, in the exact same order, at the same time and it sounds like just notes... how the fuck do you do that??
.......... I apologize for my childish statement. I wasn't thinking straight at that time. Hence, I will delete my comment. Again, I apologize for insulting you.
