- Hard-core off-road 4x4 wagon is fit for purpose, but isn’t perfect 👉 Full Review: www.carsales.com.au/editorial...
The 2023 INEOS Grenadier has finally been launched globally and first local examples of the all-new five-door, five-seat off-road 4x4 wagon are now being shipped to Australia.
While its design may be similar to the old-school Land Rover Defender’s, the INEOS Grenadier also delivers serious off-road and towing capability, and a large range of well thought-out and thorough personalisation and accessory options.
With BMW-sourced straight-six turbo petrol and diesel powertrains under its square bonnet, the INEOS Grenadier is also well polished and civilised on-road, but it’s not cheap and a few niggles prevent it from being perfect, as Mike Sinclair discovered at the global media launch in Scotland.

Not sure why people are critical of this car. I’m not sure if they drove a defender, but it was a terrible car, this looks to be much more powerful, refined, and modern compared to the old defender
The new Defender is more powerful, refined and modern compared to the Grenadier.
@@beatonthedonis I believe those were the specific problems they were attempting to address when designing the Grenadier - they wanted a better Defender, not a new one.
@@beatonthedonis the new defender is nothing like a true defender. the new on is a fancy mall crawler.
Come on $97,000!!!
good looks!
Mind-blowing !!! Would love to own it !!!
Wish it had been built in Wales like it was originally planned to be and not France.
That's Brexiteers for you. Electric version will be built in Austria, not Scotland, as well.
Ok this is the first version of a brand new vehicle. This is pretty dang good.
It is gonna be huge - if they proved to be reliable.
No they won't. They don't have the refinement of the modern trucks but it has the same price.
@@farzana6676 See the issue is you think it's for the day-to-day purpose... But its built for a specific type of people who like LC over the other SUVs - Wait and see - you will know what it going to represent. But I respect what you say.
It’s going to do ok in Europe but my God in us 80 k for Jeep Wrangler type vehicle with even less tech but a BMW engine
How is that rack attached?
The permanently connected front sway bar is a weird choice too, but I can't wait to test drive one here in Vancouver very soon!
Certainly looks the part, now we will need to see if it can stay the part for a long period of time
Awesome machine...a Landover never changes its DNA ❤️
$30k more than the Ranger Raptor or Everest Platinum? Still haven’t really seen one handle any terrain that the Raptor or Everest can’t handle. And try getting BMW parts in Kalgoorlie. $30k is a lot to pay for “the rugged look”.
Its Kal not Cape York, you can have.a part from Perth in a day. Plus there's going to be a ineos delaership in Kal.
Needs a real speedometer
Love old school land Rover defender
I want to get one of these, but fortunately in the USA we only seem to have the gas version.
i wish this was in India - i would buy it the very next day!
Australia-long range fuel tank fits where?
It's looking promising. Diesel is definitely the go here in Australia, and I agree, it needs a proper dash binnacle Biggest question mark though is parts availability if you broke down somewhere remote like Cape York, or the Simpson Desert etc.
Agree no instrument cluster were it should be, a let down.
I don’t know what focus group sat around smoking something and decided we as drivers needed the speed display out of our direct line of vision so we can take our eyes off the road and oncoming traffic just to ensure we haven’t crept over the speed limit by a few ks and become poorer by by a few hundred dollars. Morons!
@@Bnm-fk9fi nothing like a bit of completely over the top hyperbole.
@@Bnm-fk9fi They all probably had original Minis.
@@Bnm-fk9fi They were focused on keeping price down on making both right and left hand drive I image
Fuel tank is only 90 ltrs - way too small for the outback.
Mine is 75l and I did the Kimberly and Gibb River rd with two twenty litre jerries. All those excuses are rubbish
Add a LRTANK!
Gerry cans?
@@jamesgraham814 Yeah you can snap on a couple 15l Rotopax gerries on the roof rack and easilly carry another 60l fuel.
I hate having to look through a steering wheel to see the speedometer! I always have to bend my head/neck to do it!
If I can afford it, I shall get one.
Wish it a great success....only wish I could afford one😢
这个车我觉得可以算情怀车,因为他的创造者因情怀而创造了它。
I had one on order, but when I sat in a demo model, the driver's seat was strangely offset, very uncomfortable. Cancelled the order and ordered a Ranger Raptor
Great concept come to life.
Like it but unfortunately outside my price range, here in Melbourne when configured same as my current Defender it will cost me $123K+ on road costs.
I will be opting for a Pajero Sport instead.
Cue BMW sump gasket oil leaks in 3…2…1
I'm in sydeny , I want to buy one. It is advertised in australia caresales but you can't contact anyone. It's just for england
There’s only one test. 1,800 into the outback…..will it bring me back.?
ineos in more defender than the new defender its what a S.U.V.A should be Simple Utilitarian Versatile Affordable good to make car camper ovelander tour vechcle id consider one
New Defender moves with the times. This car is still stuck in the 1990s.
@@farzana6676 but this is a off roader not a luxury car like th e new defender , will any one off road a new defender ?
@@youtubecarspottersguide1 Yes lots of people offroad the new Defender. They also offroad the Land Cruiser 200 and Land Cruiser 300.
This car needs to be much more refined to compete with the Land Cruiser 300. Especially with the price they're asking for it.
If you want to make a simple, unsophisticated offroader then you need a simple price as well. Which this doesn't.
@@farzana6676 Not to mention the modern price tag
While I’ve been following this car project with interest, I wouldn’t touch it with a barge pole as it’s an ineos product.
Why, what have Ineos done?
@@jamesgraham814 it’s not what Ineos has done, but the owner… he’s not a nice man.
@@macjim I don’t really know anything about him. I was certainly saddened to see that there’s a French flag graphic displayed in the windows.
@@macjimhow so?
@@macjim wow I'm guessing there's a lot of stuff you don't own becuase the CEOs aren't nice people.
So to clarify. It’s a $100k utilitarian vehicle. How much would it be if it was a luxury vehicle? Wowza. I’m wondering how the suspension is. I agree with everything else I’m comfortable with. But the suspension. Lastly please do something about that cheap plastic in front of the drive. It has to be a screen with spedo and it should have head up display
Price is crazy right
@@mrqualityreviewer4752 I believe in supporting what they trying to do because I agree with it. But you can’t have a cash grab and claim to be making a vehicle for the people at 100k????? Farrrrrk. It ain’t no utilitarian. That’s a ford raptor which has better shocks
@@No-thing-ness At 100 k they completely lost the plot. It was supposed to be a rugged affordable utilitarian vehicle. It is 💯 not
I Like It But I Love Land Rover Defender 110 V8, More.
More of a sales pitch than a review.
For me it is more like the "Love Child" of a Defender and Land Cruiser
What color is this? Scottish White or Magic Mushroom?
The car in video is Mushroom. Looks better in the metal than I expected.
To last it needs to be galvanised chassis and body panels or a combination of alloy panels with galvanised bulkhead door frames chassis
It has all that excerpts alloy body panels..
It has alloy body panels as well.
great design. hmm however, I doubt it is as reliable as a Toyota 4 runner or land cruiser
seriously, you really have to get over comparing it a defender. that kind of thought is already been said, yesteryear.
With Toyota's 70 series being phased out, Ineos should have gotten into a partnership with Toyota for the drive train. Why? Spare parts are available in every small village throughout Africa, Australia, the Middle East, and Asia ... And in America and Europe anything is readily available. The only place where Toyota parts are quite scarce are on Mars, but Toyota drive trains are quite compatible with even Mars Rovers salvaged parts.
Especially the Toyota D4D engines are excellent and trouble free.
The Toyota drive trains are terrible mate. The 5 speed in the 70 series is a joke, and the engines while nice are hopelessly inefficient. D4D in the prado is tuned nicely but for some reason the hilux gets a terrible set up.
70 series won’t be phased out for another decade.
Spare parts available in every small village...... er, no ther're not! You have swallowed the hype. What's more, ther're so many variable models, that it is now impossible for even large dealerships to stock everything.
@@trickster8635 Ever heard of hyperbole? You should have realised it when I was talking about Mars rovers.
@@Chris.starfleet I agree Chris a reliable Toyota engine would have been great and cheaper instead of incorporating BMW trash
The problem is you could buy over 3 old used defenders that will still last a million kilometres for that price
No it’s not, they massively messed up by way overpricing it and filling it with things that cost too much. Old defender fans wanted the same vehicle with a better bulletproof modern engine and Better suspension. This is competition in the loosest sense of the word for the new defender not the old one. His initial idea was basically the old defender at £25-30k this is not that. Looks cheap on inside unlike new defender and they have got price point too high
More of marketing PR rather than reviewing the car
Moab is the answer.
Why so negative about the steering etc. it’s designed for off road. Also while the camera work was lovely the narration was clunky and generally poor in delivery.
It's funny now Nov.2023 reading the comments. Shortcomings seemed obvious to me, no kids or blondes.
No high range diff lock, breaking on spinning wheeles means this truck is not suitable for crossing large sand dunes when travelling to the coast beach fishing. My 1982 V8 Landrover is unstopable.
Jual kesini donk
why is it called Grenadier? Looks more like a Marauder.
What no middle seat
I saw this up close yesterday-very impressive.
And the price is like half of a G wagon
It's 1/4 of a G-wagon.
Suspect this is suitable for the English huntin, fishin, shootin set rather than trips to the outback.
The problem here is everything from the engine to the tail light is farmed out to different manufactures, that's not how the originals were manufactured. So what you get is a vehicle, that if you wanted to keep it as a life long work horse, that's not going to happen as all the manufacturers involved will not be providing parts long term as the original did. Let's say I wanted to purchase another part, any part for a 2024 INEOS Grenadier 10 years from now. That's not going to happen because every year the changes to the vehicle will be so drastic the manufacturers would never be able to keep up with older parts stock. The love of a work horse life long vehicle is long gone and this vehicle will become the wealthy persons pavement vehicle. Sadly the biggest adventure these vehicles will be doing is picking up children from their private schools and taking mom to yoga class...wow what an adventure.
All other new brands in the EU are electric only. So INEOS really is unique.
It's a UK made car, so not part of the EU.
Remember Brexit...?
@@error404blahit’s not, it’s made in France
The Land Rover lookalike comes with a 6 cylinder turbo-diesel suit with biodiesel use a panel van or a golf cart, and a 6 cylinder turbo-petrol encourages 4x4 to show off a burnout.
bmw diesel aren't reliable enough...a lot of problems to come..
Lol just get a 79 series
When you buy a defender from wish.
BMW power train from wish?
New or old Defender, because it’s a lot more capable than the old one!
The only downside to the Grenadier is that it is not a Land Cruiser...
Not good for Australian conditions
Great to see why didn't Land Rover do this 4WD enthusiasts ,farmers etc didn't want another Discovery/Range Rover look in the new defender
If they can make it why couldn't landrover?
Land rover has made a big mistake with there new defender loosing there best seller
If the new ineos is available as a swb lwb, van, pick up, hardtop, it will be a big seller
Army's, farmer's, police ambulance, fire services, all types or industry need a work vehicle, just like they did in 1948 until the present day
Have they? the old Defender was selling about 20k a year, JLR currently have a 50k backorder for the defender.
@@fatnortherner3198 for a car not a work truck
One year waiting list for a defender and 75000 orders!
You need to check your numbers; New Defender is selling like hot cakes 🧁 Grenadier will fade out, when launch hype is over. You will soon be able to pick up a used one for a fraction of the price..
I have been a car enthusiast for most of my life. But, I wonder, WHY is such a minority interest product (& their likes) regarded as IMPORTANT by the 'motoring' hacks. In the same way that Ferrari/Lambo/Aston reviews affect a microcosm of the motoring public, are we now to be subjected to the nefarious & prolific merits of vehicles that spend such little time in the hands of those who are in a position to appreciate their off-road prowess. Has motoring journalism fallen so far as to only satisfy the boyish & immature dreams of the fantasists
oh yeah, no problem, launch a $100k SUV that targets the Landcruiser buyer. LOL. Good idea!
It looks like a knock of landrover built in China.
Looks more like something from the GDR....circa 1972
No it isn’t. It’s disproportionately expensive and heavy
it looks like a trans gender 4wd ! build a basic 4wd drive.
It identifies as an expensive luxury vehicle
Ew
I saw a 6oz bar of lead to balance one of those wheels…yuk.
BMW engines for off road 🤔 unless they stop using plastic engine parts, reliability are questionable.
