That’s so incredibly beautiful. I caught myself holding my breath as you sprayed. I catch myself tilting my phone when I watch a video of pour painting but was a little shocked when I caught myself holding my breath!!! Great videos I guess. Beautiful when hung too.
Thank you Janice
Thanks for the tips! Currently working on my parents door too 🚪 ✨
I come here for the resin and turning. Also for the “grr, that is NOT what I wanted” when the resin doesn’t set/overflows/under-fills... “well THAT was not good” when the project flies across the room... etc.
Now you’ve made me want to refinish my cabinets. I really shouldn’t do it myself, but you make me want to. 😄
you are here on the wrong day is all, the turning video's are on Friday ! sorry I didn't mean to make you wanna refinish your cabinets.
Haha, those are the bonus things I enjoy too, plus "well, it is what it is"! :D
Doug a project is a project no matter what it is. The color you put makes the tiles in the bathroom stand out. If anyone doesn't like whatever you put up on your channel....too bad. Great work sir.
Thank you Steve, someone would complain I didn't turn a bowl, and yes they did
That’s a fine lookin door. Straight to the point no bs.
Thank you Vaughn
Hey, at least you can make a "Honey Do List" project look interesting and fun. I like the finish.
I also noticed that Hell's Angry Chipmunks roared by on their bikes to check out what you were up to at around 13:30, too.
Thank you Milady, yeah funny thing about living in the country, everyone has quads. or four wheelers
Very fun to watch - the door turned out beautifully. For all that it's you doing the work, somehow I end up with a great sense of satisfaction to see the job well done! So thanks for that! Always good to see cameos from Henry, too.
Thank you very much Chris!
Nice work
Thank You
Hi Doug. When ever I do finishes on dressers or such, after what I think is my final sand I usually go to 320. I take a spray bottle of distilled water and spray the surface to be stained. Let it dry and it lifts all those little fibers that you have to sand so much in the sealing process. It makes for a lot less hand sanding between coats. I also use a stain conditioner before I stain. Just to keep every thing consistent no blotches in the stain. Its just what I have done over the years to save on hand sandong so much. Looks awesome though. I was looking forward to seeing you do this project.
That sounds like more work to me, I just hit it lightly with the fine sanding sponges, I really didn't sand it at all, it's laying flat so there were no runs, I am glad you like the project and thanks for watching it Joe.
I love those projects. seems you have many talents Doug, and i enjoy watching them. ;) Thumbs up of course.
Thank you very much!
Good looking project!
Thank you Stuart
Very nice! I have a front door that needs this. I’d have to modify the process since i don’t want to take it off its hinges. And I don’t have a compressor. Anyway…nicely done. I love seeing how things are supposed go be done!
Thank You Karen, you can do this while the door is up, I tend to get less RUNS if it's laying flat ! LOL
Another huny do project looks great
Thank You Raymond, just like any of us we have a long list of those projects to complete !
Looking good Doug that door came out great
Thank you Dave
Great finish Dougie
Thank you Richard
Very nice job Doug!
Thank You Harold
Nicely done, Doug; it looks great!
Thank you Fonda
Different
Enjoy it
Thank you Chris
I like the moldings on the hallway side. And knowing my luck i would have hit the trim putting the pins in lol.
Lowe's Jimmy Thank you
You made it look easy..Cheers🍷🤙.
Thank you
Will watch after the shower ..... no one like a stinky viewer ..... lol 😆
Thank you
Once again, happy wife, happy life. Also, didn't realize an HVLP sprayer sounded like a crotch rocket... ;) Good job, as always!
Thank You Thomas. lol yeah those country boys have hot rod sprayers
one of those time consuming household projects, I feel your pain lol, turned out great Doug!
Thank you Robert
Looks great Doug! Hope you're staying safe and MI can soon return to some normality!
Thank You Bryan, I hope so too
Hi Doug, The door looked nice before you started. It looks fantastic after your hard work. Take care Doug. Cheers, Huw
Thank you Huw
you missed a spot....sorry, couldn't resist 😅. shiney side of it all, another honey-do project checked off. i like the look of the stain, very nice. last time i painted a door i cheated, i kept it hanging and just taped the hinges 😁. When you looked at the camera the first time with the mask on I had a total "Luke I am your father" moment. Look forward to seeing what you have next. give Henry a pat for me.
Jeremy Matthies very important to seal the underside of the door. My late grandmother once had a dog that stopped asking to go outside, and if you didn't notice her sitting by the front door she'd just do her business on the floor just there. You open the door even once over that, and if the underside isn't sealed it's going to soak into the timber and smell forever.
@@mamasimmerplays4702 Good point, guess i should have mention this was a touch up painting of the doors so the ends had already been previously sealed. Mental note: don't make comments when half awake 😂
Thank you Jeremy
Золотые руки ! Гуд !
Thank you
Came out really nice, buddy!
Billy
Thank you Billy
I have to admit I'm surprised you didn't shine it to a mirror finish. Looks awesome!
Next time! Thank you
Damn, l coulda used this vid about a month ago, installed two interior French doors the boss (wife) wanted up so we could coral the 4 legged furry critters at bay. Nice job on the the door. 👍🏼
Thank you David, the doors have been up for two years now and I just started finishing them.
looks awesome Doug, I have cypress doors on my house
Thank you Donald, those sound Purdy !
Nice job. How about a bowl made from broom straw or hay and resin.
Thank you Christopher
GooD)))))))
Thank you
I was hoping you would fill the squares with some epoxy ;-)
Thank you
That may be too silly, even for him. 😀 I could see Peter Brown doing that though.
@@eiPderF Yeah, if he just simply filled in one of the squares with epoxy it might be a little silly but he could easily turn a nice piece of wood or customize a door into something cool.
What no resin in the panel area miss opertunity lol just kidding turned out great
Thank you James
I'm not a fan of walnut finishes, but that is pretty.
Thank you ! I'm not either but we were trying to match the bamboo flooring we have that is MOCHA, it's really close
Kewl ✌💨💨
Thank you Larry ? I think this is now Larry
Absolutely beautifuls Doug . Your so talented. I think you’ve done some spraying in your day ever cars? My uncle used to paint cars and he was so good at it . He’s no longer here an I miss him a lot he was one of my favorite uncles.
Awww I am sorry Angela, Thank you, no cars but I did spray the cabinets I made,
The Pohl Barn Productions thank you. And your very welcome
Pretty door! May not have been as fun, surprising or satisfying as turning, but a necessary project none the less. It looks quite Nice!
Your dog is quite the cutie pie! I don’t remember if you told us her/his name. If you did, I forgot. 🤪. Stay healthy! Be safe! 🇺🇸 💪🏼 💫✨ ~ Roma
Thank you Roma, His name is Henry
Really turned out nice! Now is the mrs going to have you do the remainder of the doors? (Didn’t notice if they already matched 😂)Thanks for showing your handy work, it cures my boredom.
Thank you Joyce, there is only one to finish and a second needs the gloss lacquer sprayed on it
👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you Theodore
Thought for sure you would finish with the sound of the toilet flushing 😜.
Thank you Wayne, that would of been funny, why didn't you tell me sooner
Appreciate your video! Would you also need to refinish the door jamb (in place) too? I’m about to take on 6 doors myself 😬
Thank you Candi, I did not refinish the door jams I replaced them in a painted poplar, I wouldn't suggest using this Lacquer product in the house, and you get less runs if the boards are layin flat,
I wonder just how many honey-do lists have survived this quarantine time ?
lol hard to say
So, how do you keep bugs from landing on your freshly sprayed, but not-yet-dry door finish? All that work, and some nasty June bug splayed all over it...
it was too cold for the bugs, but I did find a June bug already this week
Now you're going to have to do the rest of them so they match.
only one left to do J'Lyssa
I thought you were going to pour some resin on it and put it on the lathe...😲
Thank you Anna, nope I turn on Fridays this is just supplemental videos
You actually made me laugh. The image of a door on a lathe. 😂
eiPderF - that would be quite a challenge! 😜
Hi Henry and you or is you that is Henry and the dog is has another name, I keep forgetting, names are not my strong point.
This is going to be a long comment:
That door looks similar to one my mum bought to replace the front door. It had glass...it was a solid wood panels and frame, I said I would sand it, varnish and mount it. It was a project I had not done before...I think I hand sanded the entire door, it 20 odd years ago now...Because the door was an exterior one and not interior like yours it needed to be weatherproof and the direction the front door faces gets the worst weather. I decided to use marine varnish and I applied a total of 5 coats to all surfaces ensure the door lasted a long time and did not rot...Of course sanded in between coats but did not apply any sanding sealer, did not know about sanding sealer and no one told me about it...I thought you would be doing a similar number of coasts, even if it is different types of coats...I mounted in the door frame and it was a good fit. However a few years later the door step bulged due to getting water in it. I had not painted it and had meant but got sidetracked. One of mum's friend's who supposedly was a DIY carpenter decide to take the door off, plane the bottom of the door, not the doorstep and re-mounted without varnishing the bottom. Suffice to say the door began to get moisture inside it. I did not have the time back the nto take the door off and varnish or what to do about the bits that got moisture in them. I did make it know that the person who had the planed should have re-varnished the bottom because of the weather...cool job as always. It is wood working
Thank You Les, My name is Doug and Henry is my dogs name, this door hung for 2 years or so now before I finished it, it is an interior door and yes it's in the bathroom but not sitting in any water so it should be fine as it is. I did seal all 6 side with the sanding sealer and the top coat,
Like the video. Did you sand between the last coat of sealer and first coat of lacquer?
Thank You Jim, Yes , just to make sure the Lacquer has something to hold on to and to catch and dust in the sealer
I have a few doors that need to be stripped and refinished. Can I bring them by? 😜
Thank you but no thank you, LOL
The Pohl Barn Productions, well, gee whiz! 😜
Hey, would you take those last two coats off? I prefer the satin finish! LOL Thanks for the video.
No! LOL you have to cover the sanding sealer, it smell for days if you do not, they make the top coat in a satin finish also
YOur doing door and Richard Bennett is building Chicken coops
you're pretty observant there Richard
Any need for pre stain treatment? I'm about to do a few old doors. I need to strip off the 60 years of lacquer and stain first. Just wondering about the pre stain treatment stuff. Worth the buy or nah?
I can't honestly say, I've never used it, I'd think after 60 year of being protected it's probably fine but I do not actually know, sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
Hey Doug I hate to bother you buddy but I need to know if you can send me a link where I can go and get the micro Pearl and some molds instead of me having to go to so many different places but if you know of just one web site please let me know thank you and another great vid thank you
Steven, as far as one stop shopping I am not sure that is possible unless it's on Amazon, are you talking about the Pearl Ex Mirco, I picked mine up at Hobby Lobby
@@PohlBarnProductions yes sir I'm in VA and everything is still shut down right now but I can order the total boat but was hoping you knew a web site I could get my expoxy and the micro Pearl so I wouldn't have so many orders
Wow, I would say you make that look easy, but no that didn't look easy at all to me LOL! You definitely look like a seasoned pro, though, and honestly it was great to see what's involved in a project like that. One question though, weren't you the least bit tempted to fill some of those framed areas with a creative epoxy composition? Seems like a lost opportunity! =D
Thank you Fred, I may have done this a time or two, no never crossed my mind to put resin in the panel areas.
I thought you were going to fill the areas around the cross with some resin! At least make a cool door knob for it, the other one is nice butt..............
Thank you Michelle, that would not have gone over well with the Boss !
How did you get the over spray off the camera?
I didn't spray it at the camera. the camera was at the door and this stuff dries so fast it wouldn't stick to it anyways.
I don't like those hinges with the big offset. They would trap little fingers to horrible effect!
Thank you , I have no little ones, mine are all grown up
Just use a brush.
Thank You James
Where's the Lathe work?.....Hmmmm Someones getting bored with staying at home....LOL
Friday Joe
It's a door! LOL
Thank you Jen
