Nothing sucks the fun out of modelling more than a kit with less than helpful instructions or poorly fitting parts. Glad to see you persevered and came away with a nice model. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, DD62, I love modeling and this one did suck the fun away from it. Typos, wrong named parts, ugh..i could just go on and on...but the end result looks great I think. Thanks for watching and commenting!

you did a great job on the kit, and now you have a story to tell when friends visit your model railroad and remember : without trials there would be no swear words LOL thanks for sharing

John it may have been a pain to construct but the finished product looks awesome cheers Robert

Thanks, Robert! It does look nice when it's all together, but the road to get there was long and very frustrating!

Good stuff John! Sure does look 'fiddly' work but the end result looks great! I've got a walthers wet/dry silo kit I've been building on and off for a while and it's the same. Tedious work, especially when the parts are warped or twisted.
    Thanks for sharing mate!

Looks great... I this the North Island in N scale and used the Gold Medal Products P/E and it was a royal pain but finished product ok... Looking a 3d alternatives but very expense...

Hey John....I just ordered one of these kits and I was wondering if you could put it together for me? ..............Just Kidding!!!! LOL Anyways..that turned out great! Sorry you had to go through hell and back to put it together, but it's worth it on OUR end. Glad you pointed out some tips and tricks for anyone assembling one of these kits.

I built mine in N scale and encountered the same problems. The instructions are worthless. I had to undo steps to make things fit. It looks good when finished but it is a pain to build.

Indeed it is!! I hope I NEVER have to build another one!

John, you done a amazing job on putting this together. I have about come to the idea if it isn't already built.........DON'T BUY IT! I don't have that much time or patience and if I do have the time I want it spent running trains not climbing off the walls upside down!

Hi John nice job on the refinery . I have the kit what kind of glue did you use to get the brass to stick to the platforms. Im really having some problems,

    • @JohnAPrescott

I used the loctite brand. It was a pain to say the least. I found small amount and a quick press worked the best. That kit though....some not so savory words flew out of my mouth while putting it together. Hope this helps!

Is "North Island refinery" basically the same as this one? In that case, it's also a pain to build I guess...

If you think it was a pain, try the N Scale version. Absolutely horrible. Directions were useless. If it wasn’t for the 38 dollars I paid for it, it would have went in the trash.

How long did it take you with this?

    • @JohnAPrescott
      @JohnAPrescott  2 роки тому +1

It was a good 6-8 hours from start to finish.

I hated this kit, especially in N scale. If they could have done the instructions in chronological order, instead of 1 pic, that would have helped. Yours came out better than mine. I weathered mine to mask all my mistakes.

+djstrains I feel ya pain! I hope I NEVER have to put another one of these kits together for any reason. It's horrible.

@@JohnAPrescott thanks for the insight. After watching the video, listening and the time it takes; I’m gonna look at this kit as a good way to finish/start a kitbash project. Granite a costly kit for the cause but nonetheless.
