I have a baby that is measuring to be 7.25 to 8 IBs using a growth scan, they mentioned that my baby has a big belly, and I am wondering if I am 37 weeks and 5 days. Is the baby's weight accurate b/c I spoke to a lot of moms and they say the ultrasound tends to overestimate a baby's weight and I should not be concerned. However, it is my first baby and I am scared that it will be a difficult birth and may lead to an emergency C-section. is the Ultrasound overestimating my baby's weight?

Ultrasounds can be off as much as one pound. I would not let the baby's estimated weight concern you. You've got this!!

I'm sorry that I don't know the answer to that question. You would have to ask your care provider.

@@birthtoolbox Mam I jus checked the scan and that DSA is written in same line of Breech presentation. May be DSA is related to breech🤔

Babies grow at different rates. A little bigger doesn’t seem worrying to me.

I'm in the UK. Here (at least in my NHS trust; different regions may have different policies) pregnant people are routinely offered serial growth scans (every 4 weeks) in the third trimester if they have a BMI above 35, as it can be difficult to monitor baby's growth by fundal heigh measurement. Any woman who has one or more risk factors for their baby developing foetal growth restriction (FGR) will also be referred for serial growth scans at approximately 28, 32, and 36 weeks, although the frequency of growth scans can be increased up to fortnightly if the pregnancy is very high risk.

Thank you for sharing! That is quite different than what is standard in the US.

I have a growth scan next week. The doctors haven’t raised any concerns about baby other than saying at my anatomy scan that my baby was measuring a week ahead. I asked my doctor a few weeks ago when I was gonna get an ultrasound then he mentioned and asked if I scheduled my growth scan. Should I be worried?

No, it doesn’t sound concerning to me from what you have shared.

I have an additional question: are growth scans more common if the baby is "late"? I'll be 40 weeks tomorrow and am showing zero signs of labor starting. I'm just curious if it's more likely an ultrasound will be ordered the later she waits to arrive. (My belly has been measuring right on track for the amount of weeks so I don't think there's any concern about her size.)

I don't have the stats, but my guess is that growth scans aren't more common when baby is late. They could suggest an ultrasound, but late term ultasounds are the least accurate at size prediction and ultimately it is your decision whether to have one or not. You are more likely to be offered a Non Stress Test and/or a Biophysical Profile to get an idea of how baby is doing.

I am currently 40 weeks pregnant and my doctor has also scheduled a growth scan for my next appointment.I came here wondering the same thing they say my belly measures are on track I’ve had no complications but due to the fact that baby is overdue I’m pretty sure doctors have made that a more common thing to do.
