Just did the spring oil change on my 2002 C5. Video helped. Time to hit the VA highways. 🛣️

Red Solo Cup. Freakin' brilliant. Worth watching just for that. I also keep a box of vinyl examination gloves handy; they're so inexpensive I don't care how many I go through.

44 years of oil changes and never thought to use a red solo cup. Just wish my f150 filter was vertical....

I use the same oil in all my vehicles. Change once a year but I'm driving less than 3000 miles a year.

The oil change on these cars can be tricky at times!!! But not hard!

Another tip is it's usually cheaper to buy the big boxes of oil off of Amazon or from your local parts store. Just open and use from them as needed and saves a bit of money and plastic waste

instead of a solo cup , take a screw driver or a punch and put a hole in the bottom of the filter . let drain for a few minutes , no mess.

Hey man. Well I think the last time I got my inspection they didn't even notice (I use a speed shop in downtown Norfolk). I'm due again soon.. Worst case I am Moving to NC later this year and I will just take the sticker off. What year C5 do you have? In 1.5 years I am registering it as an antique.. no more inspections 😎

Back when I was younger and limber while changing the oil in my cars and garden tractors I would wear those throwaway blue mechanics gloves. That dirty oil under the fingernails was a pain to clean not to mention the lingering oil smell on my hands. As meticulous as you are about everything, I’d have thought you’d wear them as well. Notice I didn’t say “anal” as I’ve been called! 😋

Where do you put the old oil at?

Back into the 5qt jug the new oil came out of. Then I take it back to the parts store the next day.

great googily moogily , please avoid high milage oil unless you have leaking seals . This advice is repeated from the mobil 1 oil advice line . high milage seal conditioners are the only difference from regular oil . And if your seals are good, you don't need them expanded to now be outside of original design tolerances , as if they were worn and leaking. I know high milage oil only sounds logical, but as with any other modern car part, the part must be selected for absolutely the correct application or you will be crying. although oil today is so good it probably wouldn't matter, unless your oil seals started leaking way down the road.
For the non beginners to oil changes, I am happy enough with a bronze Japanese oil change valve in place of the drain bolt on my C5, to recommend getting one .
I was actually going to pass this video by, because I know how to change my oil, but clicked in when I saw the high milage oil , which would not be advantageous to use for a lot of people. Because even if you swell your main bearing seal and that stops the leak, all of the other engine oil seals are getting the same treatment, and are now softened to be outside of the critical design tolerances. . in any event it is always best to check the specifications . After all, the only important differences between transmission fluids is how much they swell the seals, and almost everyone knows the incorrect fluid will instantly ruin an automatic transmission.

I never would have entertained a high mileage oil until I came across the video referenced above about a year ago. When mobile 1 first introduced the 'high mileage blend' it was not rated Dexos 1. However, GM has since approved it. Now, I have a 2001 Z06 which is notorious for bad piston rings and blow-by compared to the 02-04's. Also, I drive my Z06 year-round sometimes in extremely cold conditions and the high mileage offers the best flow on cold started and to me that is worth it alone for my valve train. I clearly state in the first 2 minutes that this is the oil I use but feel free to use whichever 5w-30 that floats your boat. The last year I have ran the High Mileage and the car ran noticeably smoother with a lot let less blow-by when really punching it.
