I have a solution!! I just got off the phone with Canon. They acknowledged its a double profile issue. The solution is to re add your Pro-100 using AirPrint, removing canons driver from the mix. You can then use Lightroom or Photoshop to manage the colors in conjunction with a specific ICC profile and the colors are spot on! I will make another video soon!

Oh man. I've been working on this issue for two weeks, but with the Pixima PRO 200. I thought surely my monitor calibration was off and I tried everything under the sun to make print and monitor color even remotely close. I watched something like 15 videos and read several articles on the subject. Nearly all suggested having the profile managed by Adobe using brand paper profiles. Your guidance here along with soft proofing now gives me absolutely spot on color and brightness. I can't thank you enough. I sure wish Apple, Canon, and Adobe would take note and provide unified and practical instruction like yours from the start, instead of sending us all spiraling down an expensive and aggravating color k-hole.

In the layout menu when you are using the icc profile I believe colorsync and canon color matching are correct as they appear. They are both deactivated when using an icc profile and letting the app (Lightroom) manage color. Are you selecting the proper media type before printing? In the drop down layout menu in addition to selecting color matching you also have to select quality and media setting. The appropriate media setting is given by the paper manufacturer. For RR ultrapro satin you should select semigloss. Another possible cause for the difference in the prints that you show could be because the icc profile provided by Red River is based on the OEM inks not precision color inks. The precision color website has profiles created using their inks and most likely will be more accurate.

I just started printing with a Pro300. The Canon Professional Print & Layout app and driver has bugs with Mac Sonoma. I use Photoshop not LR and the Canon app has issues. Using the PP&L app standalone with airprint driver and Canon ICC for glossy and luster paper gives very good color and B&W prints with old Hp paper from a drawer and new Canon Luster from the printer sample. I have not printed from Adobe or straight through the Apple driver yet, but do not expect any issues. You may want to update the firmware in P100 along with OS and drivers, I suspect the color issue and airprint wireless have been fixed.

Yep I had the same problem on Windows. What you were doing was called double-profiling. Lightroom was pushing to the printer what it thought the color should have been while the driver was doing the same via color matching, giving crazy results. Until you said to let the driver run the whole show and Lightroom send no profile info to the printer.

I've not had any issues printing to the Pro 100 from Lightroom. The color matches very well. I use the ICC profile for the paper I choose in the print module and the appropriate settings recommended by the manufacturer. My main problem is always getting proper contrast and brightness to the paper with my profiled monitor and luminance at 80 cd/m2. It always seems to take a couple prints to get it dialed even when I soft proof. I guess that will improve over time as I get used to using a paper. I use Canon ink.

    • @phototocanvaspdx

I have 3 icc profiles that I can use to print to the Canon Pro 100 using Costco glossy paper(Kirkland) from my MacBook Pro.
    PC42G_Opt_KirklandProfessional Glossy_OP. , additionally I increase brightness to 50%
    PC25X_6_KirklandProfessionalGlossy_PPPGII_d…. , additionally I increase brightness to 50%
    CanonProo 100 -Kirkland GI.icc , additionally I increase brightness to 50%
they all are pretty accurate to what is on my screen with accurate color.
I used the method above without changing exposure or brightness and it came out dark.
The colors on all prints where fairly accurate. icc profiles must match the paper stock you are using.

    • @phototocanvaspdx

Oh this is a tough one. It will be the subject of my next video. Basically the short answer is that this printer requires a specific (and very large) margin when printing with fine art paper. It sucks as I have piles of scrap of really nice fine art paper that I would love to use in it. The margins are required as the paper can curl and catch the print head. There are certain preset fine art paper settings in the driver, but they are very limited. Ill get more info as soon as I can.

Ah man this is a tough one. I own a printing company and use a lot of Moab fine art paper. I had hoped to use falloff scraps for small prints with the pro-100. Well, I just bought more 4x6 Canon glossy to burn through while I try to figure this out - which I hope I'll do before I run out of ink! I thought about using a hardware calibrator but, at least on Amazon, the ones that are most recommended have too many negative reviews for me to risk my time and money on. Using a pc it’s hard for me to know the problem, but on a Mac when you click that print button in Lightroom it opens your print driver. I’m pretty sure it’s the same on a pc. If there is a selection missing it’s a driver issue. The most common thing I see with that is the connection mode of the printer, and making sure it’s using the canon driver not the OS generic one. An easy solution on a Mac is to delete the printer, and reinstall it with the new driver now in your computer. During the installation you should have a way to make sure you are using Canon IJ to connect to the printer.

I've searched the web looking for "profiles Canon paper," and I get a bunch of stuff about folders and aliases and libraries and God, who needs it? All I get when I click the Printer... button and then get the printer dropdown are Media & Quality, Layout, Paper Handling, Cover Page, Watermark-nothing at all for ColorMatching or ColorSync. Nothing has changed. It doesn't sound like you actually installed the pro-100 driver. Don't be mad at your Mac. Once you click "print" you are in the print driver. But if you haven't installed one it will just use a generic one which has far fewer options. You can get it from Canons website. Try that and report back. Also as far as AirPrint and bonjour, you don't want to use either. If you click bonjour it will likely install using the AirPrint driver, which you will see on one of the next steps. When you are downloading the printer driver you also download the tools software which will include the Canon IJ installer.
