Why Catholicism Is Stupid Richard Dawkins

- Professor Richard Dawkins mentions two instances evincing the folly of Catholicism: the convoluted, irregular concept of the Trinity (that is, three gods in one); and the saga of sainthood, especially in relation with Pope John Paul II's assassination attempt.

*A Question for Christians*
Christians claim that there is only one true god. This one and true god is the god of the bible. Jesus is the son of this one true god, but Jesus is one and the same as the god of the bible. After all there are not two gods, are there? Add to this the holy spirit, and now we have the Trinity, 3 entities in one comprising the one true god.
So whether we call it god, or Jesus, we are talking about the one and only entity that is god. Thus having been said, we look at the deeds of this one true god (Jesus). This god, Jesus, drowned almost all the people of earth including millions of infants and babies, burned two cities full of children, cast plagues on entire nations murdering thousands of babies and children, ordered genocide for entire tribes, but allowed the young virgins to live and made them available for mass rape.
Are we still talking about the one true god? If yes, does this god have a split personality, one good side and one evil side? Is the good side unaware of the actions of the evil side? The question is: Why do Christians worship and pray to such a genocidal maniac? I would love to have an answer.

Well, thank God for the lucid clarity of Prof. Dawkins’s claim that the universe in its entirety was generated from nothing.
I will have to agree with you here, Sir. It is absurd to claim that something can come from nothing-a mathematical impossibility. However, I do not believe that a divine creator resolves the issue of how matter came to be, as we would then have to suppose how the creator came to be. My best guess is that some substance-be it matter or energy-had to have always existed. We may not be able to understand it, but it is the best we have.
He didn't but your evidence-free claim that a god exists is utter fantasy.
Yes, just like God who in his infinite superiority was presumably generated from absolutely nothing, likewise. Perhaps, it's turtles all the way down?
And “lucid clarity” is redundant.
@DanielRochester800
Only those who are totally ignorant of science would claim a universe from nothing. The universe formed 13.8 billion years ago when quantum fluctuations caused the Singularity to expand. The Singularity existed in different form in perpetuity.
The minute details of most religions are pretty silly when you examine them in isolation. But Dawkins often goes too far. He's right that identifiable processes and science do a better job explaining our reality on earth than religion, but as to what the UNIVERSE is -- and whether it's been "created" in some way, or it's completely random, or its essential nature is something we can't begin to grasp, he doesn't have much to offer. He doesn't know where the universe comes from any better than I do -- or you do. It may very well be that the world's religions are wrong in almost ALL of their specific details, but RIGHT about the notion that the universe has some larger meaning that we don't yet fully grasp. At this point, we just don't know, but Dawkins likes to pretend that we do.

@dawidozarowski5242 Not true.
Dawkins says nothing that I have not already heard from Texas protestants.
One God three Persons, not three gods in one or One God three parts. God is not made up of parts, or devisible into parts God is not a multitude of gods God is One. One God three persons, The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit. Everyone who is a Christian is a Saint.
Philippians 4:21-23 Salute every saint in Christ Jesus. The brethren which are with me greet you. All the saints salute you, chiefly they that are of Caesar's household. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
Saint just simply means holy, sanctafied or set apart all of which Christ people are, all saints pray for eachother we intercede for one another here on earth and also in heaven. I know this may seem complicated but it is! its like trying to understand infinity or the big bang. How you get tripped up over three persons one God but not something out of nothing or what was before the big bang is beyond comprehension!
Maybe everything is just too complicated for Richard Dawkins who is also confused about before the big bang he believes. "We are not physicists. I, like you, am completely baffled by what physicists say to me, that you cannot use the word “before” for before the Big Bang. Time began at the Big Bang. Now that is counterintuitive to me. It’s counterintuitive to you. It’s counterintuitive to Stephen Meyer. But we are not physicists. And you need to talk to a physicist. Talk to a physicist about that."
Thank you for your feedback, as usual. If I may, I'd like to offer my opinion on these points.
1) Regarding the Trinity, we must clarify two facts: firstly, that God is not fragmented into parts or manifestations or symbols: he is One, and secondly, that the Father is God, the Son is God, and the Holy Spirit is God. But these two facts contradict each other. The Father, Son and Holy Spirit cannot be God (singular), as this would mean that there are manifestations/parts of God, which is false, and they also cannot be gods (plural), as this would leave multiple gods, which is also false. Please let me know if I'm missing something here.
2) Regarding sainthood, it is true that all in Christ in saints. Then why does the Catholic Church go through the ceremony of appointing certain devoted individuals to sainthood, if all devoted individuals are saints? The process is therefore a recognition of exceptional saints, but it is absurd to claim that some saints are better than others. This is from the National Catholic Register: "All in heaven are saints. In fact, Paul calls all believers saints (holy ones)." Something must be wrong with the Catholic establishment.
3) Regarding your correlation of Catholic complexities with scientific complexities... we need to stop blending science with religion. They have absolutely nothing to do with each other. Science is the effort to understand the natural world (basically, the Universe) through empirical means; religion is the effort to understand the supernatural world through faith. There is nothing scientific about religion; is it based on observation? No; does it involve testing? No; is it built on rationality? No, it is built on ancient human attempts to understand their surroundings without there being any reason to think thus. We used to believe that rain is the product of a blessing, and now we know that this is not true. Yet, many of us still think that everything within the Universe is the work of a Creator. Now, if we are talking about how or why there is a Universe, this is a philosophical question-not a scientific one-of which religion can play a part. However, in any discussion about science, religion cannot be mentioned.
@DanielRochester800 Ok lots of stuff. 1 yes you're missing the concept. Understand that nothing in real life is close to the concept of the trinity but we have similarities God is one in essense/being three in persons. For example a small concept that we get in Genesis is in the creation of mankind. Eve is made from Adam so together they make One flesh but are two different persons they are the same (what) yet different (whos), how? Under Humankind (Adam) there is man and woman both are human yet each have different roles "persons". This is a poor example to understand our beutiful triune God.
Second the ultimate autorithy is the bible alot of people don't understand that so you have confused people like Dawkins going "what is going ooon soo hard soo difficult!" and people say "yes dawkins is smart what is going on! If he being so smart and doesn't know we for sure can't know!" They think "I just go to church! church teach me!" And never read the bible for themselves or truly devote time to understanding what we believe for example the concept of the trinity. If you ask most christians "can you explain the trinity?" they will just say "the trinity is three in one!" and you will ask them what does that mean? "Gee I don't know one three and three one something something I'm a Christian!" so sad.
This brings me to my last thing religion is based on rationality that just goes to show the ignorance of people and science is not based solely on observation, have you observed life coming from materials? No. Have you observed the universe begenning from nothing? No. Our faith is in God and that the bible is His breathed out words. So don't think we shut our eyes. What we disagree on are these things, we believe God created everything, how? when? science can tell us (through the context of the bible since this is our ultimate authority). What we don't believe is when they say that because of these things there is no God.
@@TheWordIsLife-r1f We have come to the same usual talking points and, perhaps, we may never harmonize our opinions. All I will say is that whenever science points the one way and religion the other, by virtue of being a rigorous process, science must prevail. The same can't be said of philosophy and, in fact, religion can be considered a variant of philosophy. So questions about the origins of the universe, which science cannot understand, can be debated between philosophy and religion.
@DanielRochester800 Fair. There is a whole world aside from the obserbable like morality, it needs to go back to the days where religion figured out how to get to heaven and science how the heavens worked these two operate in different planes. Did you get better understanding to my other points like the trinity?
@TheWordIsLife-r1f The trinity, as is explained in the Bible, remains unresolved to me.

It's easy to apply human logic to God, but that is Dawkins error. He questions God, forgetting that God is the creator of all things and is capable of all things. God has chosen to be represented by the Holy Trinity, and whatever Dawkins says cannot change that.

Regarding all religions: “Do not call any man on earth ‘father’ ; for you have one Father and he is in heaven. Nor must you be called ‘teacher’ ; you have one Teacher, the Messiah.’” - (The Prophet and Messiah Jesus of Nazareth at Matthew 23: 9-10) -
“The thief comes only to steal, to kill, to destroy; I have come that men may have life, and may have it in all its fullness.” - (The Prophet and Messiah Jesus of Nazareth at John 10: 10) -
For God is our true Father in heaven and on earth. So never worship and pray in the way of all religions.

And do not bring us to the test, but save us from the evil one.

Amen.
For if you forgive others the wrongs they have done, your heavenly Father will also forgive you; but if you do not forgive others, then the wrongs you have done will not be forgiven by your Father.” - (Jesus the Messiah at Matthew 6: 6-15) -
“Pass no judgement, and you will not be judged. For as you judge others, so you will yourselves be judged, and whatever measure you deal out to others will be dealt back to you.” - (at Matthew 7: 1-2) -

“Always treat others as you would like them to treat you: that is the Law and the Prophets.

"Go ahead laugh at us if it pleases you." - Well, the natural tendency, when someone says something that is clearly absurd, is to laugh. And a lot about religion, especially the Catholic religion, is absurd. Take for example, transubstantiation. We are led to believe that when the priest blesses crackers and wine, they turn into the actual flesh and blood of Christ. Obviously, the priest needs to say the appropriate blessing (the Catholic version of Abracadabra) in order to effect this transmogrification. Really? Do people ACTUALLY believe this nonsense in the 21st century. (Apparently, they do.) To adapt a well know expression, if it looks like a cracker, smells like a cracker and tastes like a cracker, it probably (certainly) is a cracker. Same goes for the wine. And you're wondering why we laugh?
Note that this is different to the Protestant Church, where the crackers and wine are merely symbolic of the fresh and blood of Christ, which I understand and respect.
And then of course, we've got stories about Jesus walking on water. That's also absurd until you realise that either the water must be frozen or that there must be rocks just beneath the surface.

Dawkins is mocking something he doesn't understand. The Trinity is NOT three gods but God in three persons, each with their own purpose: God the Father (our father, creator of all), God the Son (who came to earth in human form, lived as a human and died an innocent's death to save us from our sins) and God the Holy Spirit who can come into our lives if we invite him in, to help us to live good and righteous lives, (though we may still do wrong as we are imperfect). This is no different to humans also having 3 aspects: "body, mind and spirit." Dawkins could pray and invite Jesus into his life, read the Bible with the many commentaries available and find a good church and see what happens. He may be surprised. Above all, he should not mock and get cheap laughs from this audience. "Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this:" Psalm 37 verse 5. Most important of all is that God loves Richard Dawkins; this is his promise " “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord” Romans 8 38-39. When Charles Wesley experienced the love of God he wrote his wonderful hymn "And can it be that I should gain" in which he says "My chains fell off, my heart was free, I rose, went forth, and followed Thee."This can happen to Richard Dawkins! If your mind is not powerful enough to understand what God can do (basically everything), you should rely on His words, instead of being arrogant and sarcastic
The Trinity is said to be a mystery beyond human reasoning, impossible for us to understand or explain. It is the biggest obstacle to becoming a Christian and knowing God, is understanding the Trinity. Yet, the Trinity is simple and very easy to understand, if you know one thing.
Jesus said; “What I teach is not mine, but belongs to him who sent me. 17 If anyone desires to do His will, he will know whether the teaching is from God or I speak of my own originality. 18 Whoever speaks of his own originality is seeking his own glory; . . .” (John 7:16-18)
How can it not be from Jesus, if he is part of a Trinity?
Jesus’ authority to forgive sins was given to him by God.
“However, in order for you to know that the Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins-” then he said to the paralytic: “Get up, pick up your stretcher, and go to your home.” And he got up and went to his home. When the crowds saw this, they were struck with fear, and they glorified God, who gave such authority to men.” (Matthew 9:6-8)
Did Jesus Deny Being God in Mark 10:18? Yes, he did.
““Why do you call me good? Nobody is good except one, God.” (Mark 10:18)
Jesus was referring to what the OT stated, “For you, O Jehovah, are good . . .” (Psalm 86:5)
Jesus states that his Father is his God, Jesus worships his Father as God.
“Jesus said to her: “Stop clinging to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father and to my God and your God.’”” (John 20:17)
You don’t worship someone you are equal to, nor do you worship yourself. If this was true, then why does the Father never worship or pray to Jesus?
The Father has authority over Jesus just as a husband has authority over his wife.
“But I want you to know that the head of every man is the Christ; in turn, the head of a woman is the man; in turn, the head of the Christ is God.” (1 Corinthians 11:3)
If you have a head or boss, you are not equal to them. How does this work with Jesus?
Jesus will subject himself to his Father.
“But when all things will have been subjected to him, then the Son himself will also subject himself to the One who subjected all things to him, that God may be all things to everyone.” (1 Corinthians 15:28)
If you subject yourself to someone’s authority, you are not equal in authority to them. How can two members of the Trinity have different levels of authority, while the third member, the Holy Spirit seems to have none and is never even pictured as having a body?
Can Jesus be both God and the mediatory between God and men?
“. . .For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, a man, Christ Jesus, who gave himself a corresponding ransom for all-. . .” (1 Timothy 2:5, 6)
“. . .Now there is no mediator when just one person is involved, but God is only one.” (Galatians 3:20)
Why did Paul write both verses? Why did he not explain it in light of the Trinity?
These are very complex questions with a very simple answer that is so obvious once you know it. This answer is staring you in the face it is so simple. Just think about it, what did a Jew have to accept and believe to become a Christian? It was only one thing.
“Peter said to them: “Repent, and let each one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for forgiveness of your sins,. . .” (Acts 2:38) “. . .God made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you executed on a stake.”” (Acts 2:36)
All a Jew had to do was accept Jesus as the promised messiah. The word ‘messiah’ means anointed, as in anointed to become king. The Jews just had to accept Jesus as the king in the kingdom promised by God. They did not have to learn about or believe in the Trinity. Which is why Jesus never gave a sermon on the Trinity, why he never even mentioned it or explained it. No one in the Bible ever does. The Trinity is an impossible mystery until you unlock the secret of it, that makes it very easy to understand, the Trinity is a lie. It is a false doctrine. That is why it is not in the Bible. Why would the Bible explain something that doesn’t exist?
Once you understand this simple solution to the mystery of the Trinity, it is like the scales falling from Paul’s eyes after he accepted Jesus as the promised messiah. With this understanding, it makes understanding God and scripture so much clearer and easier. Suddenly it is like you can see for the first time and everything makes sense when unsolvable mysteries beyond human understanding suddenly pop like a soap bubble and you wonder why you didn’t see it sooner.
Bunkum!
@@JohnWerner-te5zy Yes, correct, the Trinity doctrine is indeed 'Bunkum!" that is why it is said to be a mystery. It is a mystery why any one believes it when the Bible exposes it as a lie.
Yes, it's very easy to understand once you abandon all logic and common sense. It's the same thing with Father Christmas - how does he visit all the world's children in a single night to deliver all those presents? Simple - he travels at 2.7 times the speed of light and his sleigh is capable of holding several billion presents. I must admit though, I've never understood why his beard doesn't get black when he climbs down the chimney.
