I feel Brian shouldn't have tore into the guys eyeball with his thumb. Most of you have never taken an eye poke or gouge. It feels like your brain is bleeding and you can't see a damn thing. The doctor should 1) do a visual inspection then 2) WAIT. give the fighter time to recover before asking if they can see. What's essentially happening is fighters are being forced to lie and say they can see, and if they do that they get pressured to get back into the fight quickly while handicapped.
Bryan is a good fighter but it's his fault this happened. He jammed his thumb into the guys eye now he wants to claim he was faking injury basically. FOH.

Beltran is cool, but all these refs make mistakes from time to time. It's a tough gig. But sometimes they make it harder on themselves. UFC refs need to get younger. These dudes' legs and eyes are aging out FAST...

@@alfredeneuman4947 did you see his eyes right after? Right when he was trying to fight Bryan. Couldn’t continue the fight but wanted to fight after the fight had been stopped. He was getting pieced up and did not even give his eye enough time to feel better. Dude told the Dr. he could not see after only 1 minute. If you want to be there you wait the entire 5 minutes before making that decision.

true. I hate eyepoking so fking much cause from being in MMA gyms I learnt that the open finger style is intentional because it stops the guy from rushing in cause he does NOT want his eyes poked. It's like ... grey area cheating. So im bias and anytime I see an eyepoke I just want them to lose immediately. I've seen fighters go rounds with their hands closed - it's not a question of "they can't" it's "they don't want to". You can gauge distance with your hands closed - just allow the refs to be more strict. Hands should only come open during grappleing@@Stopvotingdemocrat

Nah but seriously, I think maybe the ref could have been specific and told him he has 5 minutes, and he could have quit or not, closer to the 5 minute mark. If he legitimately got hurt in the eye, I get it, but at least take your time and don't act tough and like you want to fight a minute later, that was not cool.

@Xnovality Mike was supposed to steamroll Magny in a fight that he was well in control of until he wasn't. He ended up getting finished in what was scheduled to be his coming out party. Trust me, he was humbled. Maybe even a little humiliated.
Fighters get 5 full minutes to recover from eye pokes. A fighter that wants to keep fighting is going to hold out for as long as possible. 🤷🏻♂️ Mike Beltran did a poor job reiterating that too for what its worth.

A fighter has to know the rules. Ignorance is not an excuse for such a common thing, like knowing you have 5 minutes to recover.
Mike Beltran sucked tonight. In the McKenna fight he literally touched the fighters in an attempt to stop the fight and also verbally commanded the fight was done then urged them to keep going after they stopped and he realized he fucked up. The right person won ultimately, but if we’re enforcing rules, I thought once you touched the fighters during a stoppage plus yelled ‘stop!’ then it’s done?

Everyone knows he already beat Loosa and Battle should get a ranked fighter next in an arena with a crowd instead of fighting in front of nobody in the apex.
Not sure if commissions have different rules or refs have discretion, but I feel like I watched a fight where an eye poke happened and the fighter initially said they can't see, and the ref told him to just take the entire 5 minutes because his vision could clear up. That ref communicated to the fighter that the fight would be waived off if he can't see, but that the fighter has the right to take 5 minutes. So the fighter took nearly the entire time, then communicated his vision had returned, and the fight continued. I wish I could remember the fight/ref. I just remember the ref being extremely on top of that situation.

@@lukethomasprteam Damn, good memory. That's exactly the one! Just rewatched it and the ref handled that perfectly. Strickland said he can't see at least twice, but the ref told him to just take more time and see what happens. And eventually his vision cleared and he won that fight.

It wasn’t the doctor, if anything they should be the one to hold the cold press onto the eye, ask half way through break if they’re good or not yet, then wait the rest of the time and ask again.

Wasn’t a huge fan of Bryan battle on TUF and I watched every fight he’s fought since being in the ufc and from his first fight to now holy fawk he has evolved alot from then til now like dude literally looks like a champion in this fight or a future champion and definitely became a big fan after last night rooting for this guy
One of the best BJJ guys to ever do it Rodolfo Viera had trouble early on with his gas tank in MMA and took a few L’s but he’d NEVER give up or make an excuse for not finishing a fight he was losing. That young man needed to respect the game and take his loss like a man.
Loosa had up to 5 min to find out if he could regain his vision. Loosa then pointed to the opposite eye (right eye) and then pointed to the eye that got grazed (left eyes) Watch again. He was wanting to quit within 20 seconds of the doctor coming into the octagon. Props to Bisping for having Battle’s back.
