I was taught to throw planters with a narrower bottom than the top. If the plant gets root bound, it can come out of the pot without having to break the pot or ruin the plant. Food for thought.
I don't understand why you didn't make saucers. What happen if it's not exactly the same as the pot? Is it just for the esthetic? I would not mind it. I prefer that over adding a plastic saucer or one that doesn't match at all. I vote for saucers with the rest of the reclaim!
I paint, rather than pottery, but I have a couple of damaged canvases that I'm currently cutting into pieces to assemble onto greeting cards, so it feels a bit like "reclaim" as well.
Number 7 was my favorite. I love how the final pots turned out! Such a fun video concept & gorgeous work as always. I particularly enjoyed the background music as well.
2 was my favourite! And 7 was my second favourite 😆 it may have been big box store-esque but I think between the reclaim and your throwing it would have ended up being cool and unique
My studio provides reclaim/recycled clay and I loooove thinking about all of the forms and things and failures and trimmings of successes the clay was before I got to it.
what a cool approach! this reminded me of having to use up all my yarn scraps. i’d love to see more “viewer’s choice” videos if you’re up for them! maybe throw an announcement on youtube so we can all head to instagram for voting? or maybe you did and i missed it? either way, nice vid!
Thanks in part to you, I'll be taking my first beginner pottery-throwing class in a couple weeks. :) It includes the clay, and glazing and firing up to three pieces you make. I'm excited. If I like it enough I may take one of their multi-class beginner courses and/or get membership at the local nonprofit art studio it takes place in so I can make more things.
Number one was my favourite, but I don't think I had come across your channel yet in 2020 so I didn't know you had already done that shape a lot. Love the idea of reusing as much as possible and the result is gorgeous!
5 was my favorite! Such a lovely shape, but I also really like the one that won! The blue came out absolutely gorgeous and the white is also really pretty. Will absolutely be getting one if they're still available this weekend!
I think a good way to use up alot of reclaim is to make some Japanese tea mugs. The shape is pretty easy, but what makes them stand out is the glaze, so basically its 2 birds with 1 stone thing. It's a good good way to practice making some unique glazes and use up thay reclaim.
I'm glad you kept #4 in the first round, because I was thinking 'how easy is it to transplant something out of or into the pot' and that one has a relatively narrow base with a wide brim that makes transplanting easy!
I like 2, 4, 5, and 6; and the blue glaze. Because I like there to be a sense of secruity when I pick up a potted plant, the pots whose rims are wider ( or which had a narrow waist) are the ones I like. But after thinking about getting a plant out of it, I narrowed it down to 4 and 7.
Mia, have you tried firing white and blue glaz on the same piece? I feel like that could be cool, even ifnits just a rim accent and drippy. Thank you for the amazing content as always ❤
When potting a plant, it's really good to consider ease of un-potting, later, when the plant grows larger. That means, imo, the top should be the widest point, and the bottom, the smallest. #4 was my fave :)
I choose 3,5,7,8 and mix match trays would be so cute!!!! I love the uniqueness of a set being two different colors because then no other set is like that
5 is my favorite! I also liked 1, 2 and 7 but these were the first ones you smashed! Have you tried making bonsai pots or pots with similar geometry - wide and shallow? I think there is a market of bonsai enthusiasts or people that want something different than the typical planter where the height is about the same as the diameter.
I tape heavy paper to the outside of my splash pan when I’m trimming pots. I ended up buying the trimming grip on Amazon that’s less than half the cost of the GG, and I love it-what a time saver!!
Hi! i missed ur content thankfully u're back to uploading. idea, maybe throw the platter attached to the planter ? like as a part of it, i throw mine like that and it saves me tons of clay and firing etc...
2) thrown in one piece? Several of your bags of reclaim seem to have enough to make more than one piece out of them. Also, you can make planters with built-in dishes, have you never done that?
You could have made two polls of 4 planters each, then made a poll of the two winners against each other! That way you could have put all 8 up for a poll!
Mia, thank you for this video, the poll was a great idea. Just wondering, do you reclaim the squashed pots again, how many times to you reclaim clay. Thank you
1, 5/2, and 7/8 were my faves in that order ! edit: only one survived the purge !!! also, i think the reason 1 was my favourite is because it was wider and more shallow, which i prefer when potting my succulents edit again: they turned out so beautiful!!!
I like 1, 5, 7, and 8. Though i am choosing based on what i think my plants roots would enjoy living in, not purely aesthetics. Also knowing they don’t have saucers, i am pretending they are outer pots that would have nursery pots inside. Personally, i find it harder to find suitable saucers than it is to find pots (second hand). So i am currently short on saucers. I would therefore rather have an outer pot with no drainage holes (like to use the whole pot as a saucer) and keep the plastic inner pot that can be removed for drainage.
Just if its any background info, my reasoning for liking #8 the best is that it was just the *perfect* shaped pot. Even though it feels like its easy to find a pot shaped like that at a commercial store, in reality its frustrating and saddening because the ones sold in stores are usually always either too simple or too trendy, but to me a pot that shape was great because it was wide to fit a plant with very ample space for root growth and circular which gave it a very cute stout feel, but the practicalness of it didnt make it too flashy which is what im always looking for, but! I do understand that my opinions are very specific so im not too hurt and understand the value and business decision to go with a popular vote.
2 was my favorite and she smashed it first!
Totally and 7 was my 2nd fav! Oh well.
Me too!
Same!

Yes I'm watching this wondering how you get the plant out of all of these
Lol yup that's what I was thinking
@erikaplante-jean7745 some people just have a plastic pot inside ceramic pot for design.
Don't wait until it's rootbound?@@erikaplante-jean7745
5, 6, 2, & 1
I don't understand why you didn't make saucers. What happen if it's not exactly the same as the pot? Is it just for the esthetic? I would not mind it. I prefer that over adding a plastic saucer or one that doesn't match at all. I vote for saucers with the rest of the reclaim!
Especially since the customer knows they're getting a handmade pot made from reclaimed clay!! Surely a mismatched saucer is part of the charm?
It did not look like there was enough clay left for that . Saucers always need more clay than you expect
The blue of course, my favourite, Mia! 💙💙💙
1 was my fav because it was wider
I know
Same
i loved #8 so much; he was perfect TwT
Same! I hope our round boi can make a come back
Same
With the color combo it reminded me of a honey pot and it was so darn cute!!!
I like my planters rather wide and not too tall and narrow, so 1 and 7 were my favourites... rest in peace 😂
same hahaha
2 was my favourite, of course that one got smooshed first🤣
The blue glaze looks fabulous
Same here 😂
I paint, rather than pottery, but I have a couple of damaged canvases that I'm currently cutting into pieces to assemble onto greeting cards, so it feels a bit like "reclaim" as well.
Ooh fun, were they damaged after you used them or prior to painting?
Number 7 was my favorite. I love how the final pots turned out! Such a fun video concept & gorgeous work as always. I particularly enjoyed the background music as well.
2 was my favourite! And 7 was my second favourite 😆 it may have been big box store-esque but I think between the reclaim and your throwing it would have ended up being cool and unique
2 and 8 looked like an absolute dream to me, they were beautiful
My studio provides reclaim/recycled clay and I loooove thinking about all of the forms and things and failures and trimmings of successes the clay was before I got to it.
We want saucers! Mismatching clay is perfectly fine? I don't think anyone would really be bothered by that? I definitely wouldn't. I liked #2 @5:06
I think 1 or 8 are my favorite planters. I like a wide planter with a soft rounded shape ❤
Lol it was funny to share my faves before the Great Squashening because neither of them survived. RIP 😂
what a cool approach! this reminded me of having to use up all my yarn scraps. i’d love to see more “viewer’s choice” videos if you’re up for them! maybe throw an announcement on youtube so we can all head to instagram for voting? or maybe you did and i missed it? either way, nice vid!
1 and 8 were my favorite 😂
Ohh no! You literally squished all my favorites haha 😅
Same!!! 😂😂
Yah me too. I need the bigger wider pots for root growth and bunching up a couple different plants together.
Thanks in part to you, I'll be taking my first beginner pottery-throwing class in a couple weeks. :)

the way you squished all my favorites 😭😭😭😭😭 but I love them all
I liked #8 and #3 for their classic silhouettes, reminded me of ancient pottery with elegant curves. Love the final glazed results!
I think my choices were exactly as you chose, so that was perfect! 😅 Love the blue and the wiggly shape of the final planters!
I think a good way to use up alot of reclaim is to make some Japanese tea mugs. The shape is pretty easy, but what makes them stand out is the glaze, so basically its 2 birds with 1 stone thing. It's a good good way to practice making some unique glazes and use up thay reclaim.

The final outcome is great! Loved that you did white and blue as options.
#3 was my favorite right away! 😊
The blue glaze on these is so stunning.
noooo not number 2! That was my favourite! also loved 1 and 7 😅
Not the shape I would have chosen, but they are soooo lovely! You are such an inspiration!
Three and Five are my favorites. Five I think looks wonderfully reminiscent of a bamboo culm without imitating it in detail.
3, 4, 5 & 8 were my favorites, mainly 3 & 4
Mia, have you tried firing white and blue glaz on the same piece? I feel like that could be cool, even ifnits just a rim accent and drippy. Thank you for the amazing content as always ❤
Great idea. I personally throw the dish attached. Then put holes in the side to drain the pot. Loved #4 and the blue is amazing.
This is a hecking nice mug shape as well. I personally loved the sharpness of the top edge.
When potting a plant, it's really good to consider ease of un-potting, later, when the plant grows larger. That means, imo, the top should be the widest point, and the bottom, the smallest. #4 was my fave :)
6 and 8 were stunning
I wanted planters too when you showed us the options 4:55 I like 3 & 7 17:47 white 19:17 yay!
I choose 3,5,7,8 and mix match trays would be so cute!!!! I love the uniqueness of a set being two different colors because then no other set is like that
1 was my favourite. 🐨👍 - adding - blue.
Loved the classic look of 8, but the final product was awesome!
I would have loved to see a half white and half natural glaze maybe with blue inside. Next time 😊
Ive been obsessed with ur vids the last few days
YOURE SO FREAKING TALENTED AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Pot number 8!! Would be great for indoor plant even without a dish if you make the pot waterproof!!
My flower pots never have a draining hole. I use plastic pots in them.
My favorites are 1, 3, 7, & 8. I love all of them. My least favorite is 2, but I still kinda like it.
2 and 7 were my favorits... 1, 8 also. From them which were left no. 4.
The first one you crushed was my favorite 😅
Wow! You did so well making them the same size and shape!
Engagement! 3 and 7 are my favorite.
Love the texture of 6!
2) thrown in one piece? Several of your bags of reclaim seem to have enough to make more than one piece out of them. Also, you can make planters with built-in dishes, have you never done that?
#5 because I love a bamboo aesthetic and #5 definitely has that resemblance
I think as a planter, I would have picked the number 1 as it is wider. But I really love the shape of number 5 and 6.
1,2 and 5 were my favorite ones
i looved 3 too, as well as number 8!!
1, 2, 5 and 6 were my favorite
You could have made two polls of 4 planters each, then made a poll of the two winners against each other! That way you could have put all 8 up for a poll!
I liked three the best, but I would’ve chosen a different set for the shape poll
Oh no, you squashed 2 of my favourites, lol, love the dark, beautiful 😊
i like 5 with that middle point, feels unique but classy
Mia, thank you for this video, the poll was a great idea. Just wondering, do you reclaim the squashed pots again, how many times to you reclaim clay. Thank you
Oh I loved 1, 2, 6 and 7. Three squished but 7 made the cut 🙌
4,6,8 are my favorites. I hope at least one survives the squish!
#1 and #7 are definitely my favourites :>
6 and 2 were my favs
pot #1 for me, slim topped pots are hard to fit with plants i find. sorry for my english:)
Of the first round, I like 3, 5, 7, & 8!
3 was my favorite too!
Three and seven were my favorites lol
2 and 8 were my favorite
❤This blue is a miracle! BUT what kind/color of plant do you guys recommand to these pots? 😅😊 I am little bit clueless.
1, 5/2, and 7/8 were my faves in that order !
edit: only one survived the purge !!!
also, i think the reason 1 was my favourite is because it was wider and more shallow, which i prefer when potting my succulents
edit again: they turned out so beautiful!!!
this was amazing! looking forward to more projects!!
3 and 8 were my original favourites so similar that I couldn't decide. Its funny your favourite was mine.
Back to the drawing board, planters need to be wider on the top, make the saucers with the same batch that you do the planter.
Returning post smash to cry
Nooo, so close! :D My faves were 3, 5, 6 & 8
edit: Ooh, the white glaze really brings out all the different qualities of the clay :O Beautiful!
7 was the best one. You picked 3 flared top ones (which I personally dislike). The one that ended up being picked was my favorite of the remaining 4.
Do you make your own glazes? Or is the blue one bought from a store? It looks stunning!
7 and 2 were my faves :)
8 was my favorite and 3 was my second favorite. So long 8.
I have a 5 gal bucket about half filled with reclaim, should probably get on that soon 😅
"You're not gonna choose this one anyway" - me looking at my fav #8 🥲 lol 😂😂❤️
hahah oh nooooo
Just if its any background info, my reasoning for liking #8 the best is that it was just the *perfect* shaped pot. Love the blue.
Beautiful results!
1 was my favorite
My favorites in order: 6, 2, 1, 5
They all turned out so cute!
2,6,7 and Blue!
5 is my favourite!!
Have you considered making a ceramic extension for your splash plan walls? Maybe out of reclaim?
Who'm I kidding. Of course you have.
2 was my first favorite. and 6 was my second. and 8 was my 3rd lol. thankfully 6 was safe.
Of the original 8, number 1 was my favorite
Two and seven were my favs
6 is my favorite. I like 5 too.
