I can't physically become vegetarian or vegan myself. For some reason, my body does not do well doing that. I tried, and my body had way to low iron and proteins. While I will eat vegan and vegetarian items if they taste good, my body cannot digest plant based items well enough to give me the proteins and iron the way meat can.
If it's already ded someone's gotta eat it

Its an alternative. And is better because its closer (in texture) and you don't throw the banana peel away.
It is easier to find (and cheaper) banana peel "all over the world", I think. for example here in Argentina we do not have Jack fruit. Sorry for my bad English, I hope you can understand me.

it’s weird how so many people use seaweed (the nori) to give a fishy flavor to things? i’m korean so it’s a staple in my diet and i’ve found that it doesn’t really give off a fishy flavor

I think korean seaweed is not fishy compared to the japanese one. That's why I like the korean one better. Lol. Even in Japan korean seaweed are called Kankoku Nori (Korean Seaweed). Because it's so different with their own nori

It’s ok to eat salmon actually helps lower down high cholesterol. It’s actually recommended by doctors as well in order to lower down cholesterol.

My co-workers had the same reaction - no one really bought the "smoked salmon" aspect but everyone wanted more - they said it was delicious... so I just called them carrot sandwiches

We have this in Finland too! It's called "porkkala". The word for carrot is "porkkana" and the word for fish is "kala".

Actually there is already a company that makes a plant-based alternative to salmon. Is called F-ish and they use carrots as well, I really reccomend you to try👍

@Gary York No No. I think this salmon alternative is for people who can't eat salmon or are vegan. for reasons like high chlistrol (i think) or either crulity reasons or enviromantal reasons. I think meat is healthy and inmportant to inculed in a diet (or get your protiens from somewhere else)

these are super popular in finland, even amongst nonvegans! it’s super simple to do actually, I just peel them, boil them in salted water, slice them like you did and then use a marinade that’s really simple (oil, white wine vinegar, salt & liquid smoke) and keep them in the fridge for 24-48 hours and it’s so good!

You should try this recipe! I promise its sooo good. I'm from finland and we have this thing called Porkkala. Porkkana (carrot) + Kala (Fish) = Porkkala.
● 4 Big carrots
● 1kg rough seasalt
● 1 tablespoon oil
● 2 teaspoons liquid smoke
● 1 teaspoon white wine vinegar
Wash carrots but do not peel them. Spread layer of salt to the tray so the bottom doesn't show. Then cover the carrots all the way so carrots are completely covered (i mean use the whole kilogram of salt.) Then put them in oven to 175 celcius about 1,5 hours or until soft. Break the hardened salt and brush of any big chunks left. Then peel carrots and chop to thin slices. Mix oil, liquid smoke and vinegar, mix the carrots in and let marinade 1-2 days.

This is literally the best vegan fishy kind of thing i have eaten and it is one of my favourite things to put on karelian pie or dark rye bread. It also goes very well with sushi!

I wonder if it would be easier to make this if the carrots that were roasted were jumbo carrots. That way the peel could be larger and less likely to fall apart. It would require a different roasting time though....

I would bake the nori for a minute at 420 Fahrenheit before adding it into the marinade to enhance the taste and add in some of the smokiness that you would get with the real thing
You made "pulled pork" from banana peels? Lol Have you seen it made from jackfruit, theres a frozen food company that uses jackfruit as meat replacement for different recipes.

I make this often for christmas and i love them. I use recipes where you bake the carrots totally covered in salt (it can be re-used after) and marinate it. It is such a good substitute!!

Should of peeled it before roasting. But using a fork in the thicker part and a brand new peeler one at a time very slowly so even, mandolin works but a new peeler is better, than roast but glaze carrots prior to roasting

I love this recipe, I'm not vegan/vegetarian but I really don't like fish. I make this but then don't add the capers or nori, and it gives me the delicious flavor pairings of creamy and tangy and smokey, but without the fish flavor.

What I like about her videos is she isn't one of those vegans who insists every vegan substitute is perfect and you can't tell the difference. She's honest when something isn't very good. It's her type of attitude that inspires people to try more vegan food as opposed to the fanatical vegans who call people murderers and rapists for having a burger and a milkshake. All their attitude does is alienate people and put them off. Keep it up, Merle!
