    Our Traditions Model T300P faulted overnight. Initial diagnosis was the exhaust port/chimney was blocked. I emptied the hopper, cleaned everything including the auger, cleaned out the exhaust port & chimney and put everything back together. I plugged the stove in and turned it on. The auger runs, but stops after about two minutes. What's your best guess regarding the issue? Should I replace both the auger motor and the pressure switch? Thanks in advance for your help.

      Thanks for contacting us. So does it feed on start-up, light, and then stops feeding fuel? The Traditions has a photo-eye that acts as a proof of fire and allows the unit to feed after initial start-up. Here's a video that will cover the photoeye a bit more. ua-cam.com/video/aJF1m56oi0I/v-deo.html
      You can run your auger motor to direct power to verify proper operation and torque - link below.
      You can also bypass the pressure switch for troubleshooting - Link below.
      Just let us know the exacts of when it's feeding and when it is not and we can guide you to the solution here. Happy to help.

      @@EarthSense Thank you!!! I really appreciate your help and information.
      Yes. The auger feeds on start up and then runs for about two minutes then stops turning. I did not clean the photo eye. I'll do that next. I was so focused on a potential blockage in the exhaust port the photo eye didn't even cross my mind.
      Thanks for the other troubleshooting and test info. I will be back out there in a few weeks and will let you know what I discover when I get back.

    Do you have a video of how to take the auger itself out? I think mine is clogged with pellet dust - Winslow PS40 Country Stoves Inc.

    • @EarthSense
      @EarthSense  Рік тому +1

      Hey Jeff, Unfortunately we do not have an auger removal video on the PS40, however it is pretty strait forward to do. Once you have the auger motor out, remove the set collar completely, and then you will remove the bolts that hold on the auger stop plate. Make sure the hopper has all pellets cleared out. You can use a channel lock pliers and grip the end of the shaft to break it loose - generally a little left and right turn should release the auger shaft so you can pull it all the way out to inspect and clean. Any questions as you go through just let us know. Thanks!

    What if the allen screw turned to the opposite side while the auger is jammed, how you get the auger motor lose. I got a cleveland ps130w. The auger jammed while the screw was not pointing out where you can use the allen key. The space there was so little. How you’ll fix that?

    • @EarthSense

      Thanks for contacting us, happy to help! When the hopper is empty and the auger shaft is free you should be able to turn that motor by hand back to proper placement. Let's get your hopper cleaned out as good as possible and try to get any build-up in the auger shaft at the base of the hopper broken up and cleaned out. From there lets grab the auger motor by hand and start moving it left & right, back and forth, until it's freed up and you can access the set bolt to remove. From there you can pull the auger all the way out to make sure everything is free and clear. Keep us posted, happy to help however we can. Thanks!

    I just replaced the auger motor on my PI40 but when I tighten the motor bracket down (2 - 7/16's bolts into the outer ring of the bearing) I can no longer turn the auger shaft by hand. The shaft would easily turn by hand before. I had taken the bracket off to check the auger. Is this normal or am I missing something? Thanks for your help.

      @EarthSense  2 роки тому +1

      Good Morning Judy, here is some input from our technical team: This would not be normal and without seeing it the only thing that I can think would be installation issue. There is probably an issue with the lower auger bearing\bushing on that mounting plate that is binding when the bolts are tightened. That is where I would start.
      Let's take a close look at, uninstall and reinstall and see if we can pinpoint where it's binding.
      Happy to assist, thanks.

    My PS40 makes a vibrating sound every time the auger turns. Sometimes it is loud, other times not so much, but it always vibrates. Any idea what I need to do to make it stop?

    • @EarthSense
      @EarthSense  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for the message, happy to assist. If you can, have the back panel opened up while in operation and with a good light let's see if you can isolate where the vibration noise is coming from. Most likely I would guess it to be coming from the auger stop plate that the motor is cradled in. If it is coming from that area, you could wrap the edges of the stop plate that cradle the motor with electrical tape to act as cushion between the metal on metal. It could also be coming from somewhere else - it's possible that a bolt could be loose on say your convection blower and as the auger turns it creates a vibration noise. It could also be coming from the gears inside the auger motor itself. I think with a good light you'll be able to determine where the noise is coming from. Let us know what you find; I'm sure we can help get it fixed. Thanks.

    It is nice that you have it tore apart for your demonstration. Try doing it on the floor and the the nut will not loosen even with wd-40. Also the problem is the auger will not turn. What causes this problem?

    • @EarthSense
      @EarthSense  Рік тому

      Thanks for the message, happy to help. If the locking collar bolt that secures the auger motor won't budge, even after soaking with WD40, I would recommend hitting it with a pencil torch for about a minute to expand the metal and see if you can get it to bust loose. Generally speaking, if the auger shaft is not turning and the auger motor is in operable condition, then there's some kind of jam within the auger shaft. Could be pellets that have gotten moist and swelled, or it could be a foreign object lodged in there. Let's get the motor out first and test it to direct power - Link on that below. Next, let's clean all pellets out of the hopper and vacuum as many fines and remaining pellets as possible. Depending on your stove model there will most likely be a stop plate and bracket that have to be removed to pull the auger shaft out. You can lay down a drop cloth underneath that area to collect the pellets and fines when you pull the shaft out. If needed, you can use a rubber mallet to tap on the auger shaft to break it loose. Once the auger shaft is out inspect it and note any abnormalities you might see. If any of the auger flights look bent, cracked, chipped, etc.. then it will be best to get a new auger shaft. If the auger shaft looks good, just clean out the shaft tube and reinstall. Here's the video on testing your motor to direct power - ua-cam.com/video/rlmiCYI2WPk/v-deo.html
      Keep us posted - Let us know your make and model if you need any further instructions.
      Thanks.

    Hello,
    I had new carpet installed in my living room and had to move my pellet stove.
    I put back the pellet stove after the carpet was installed and when I started the pellet stove there was a "poof" sound and something shorted out so no power.
    I figured that the igniter had blown (again!) and maybe it had, but the bigger problem was that black wires had somehow wrapped themselves around the auger motor shaft. I removed the auger motor to unwrap the wires and one black wire was unattached and I don't know where it goes. In the picture it is the long black wire in lower right with the exposed end of the wire pointing toward the control panel. Does anyone know where this wire connects and how it connects?
    If I can find where the wire connects maybe I can then test the auger motor and igniter, etc to see what the issue is. (I think when I removed the pellet stove and had to lay it down awkwardly to get it through a door, the auger motor must have caught the wire harness and when the stove started and the auger turned, it started to wind the wires around it.) Not too smart in Maine!
    Thanks for any help you can provide.
    Peter

    Do you ever grease the auger motor bearing, mine seems to be noisey like it needs to greased

    • @EarthSense
      @EarthSense  3 роки тому

      Thanks for the message Cathi. Most auger motors will be sealed bearing and will not have grease or oil ports. You can try applying a bit of grease to the top spindle on the armature of the motor; I've heard that helping in some cases. If you do end up needing a replacement just let us know and we can provide some options for you based on your make and model.

      Hi, my name is Perry I own a Winslow ps40 my question is should there be a continuous flame going on, when it first starts off there is a beautiful flame for about 5 minutes the goes down to nothing just a glowing orange in the pot ,still gives out heat.
      Any suggestions would be great, Thanks.

      @@perryculley3086 Thanks for contacting us Perry, happy to help. Do you run your Winslow on a wall thermostat or do you operate it off the control board heat dial only? On a thermostat it's designed to drop down to a low fire once temp is met for a period up to an hour. If it calls for heat during that time it ramps itself back up. If it does not call for heat it is designed to shut down and restart when the thermostat does call for heat. If you are not using a thermostat and using the control board heat dial for controlling the heat output, it should be a fairly consistent fire on each of the heat settings. Send us over a few more details on how you are operating the unit; we're happy to assist.

    • @EarthSense
      @EarthSense  2 роки тому +1

      @@perryculley3086 Sounds good Perry. Yeah, where you have the heat dial on the control board is where the unit will go when the thermostat calls for heat; most folks would have it set at a medium or high setting. Once the thermostat is satisfied it drops down to the lowest fire and will hold that until heat is called for again. If heat is not called for within that hour, the stove will shut down and restart when the thermostat calls for heat again. Also you will want to look at thermostat placement. Make sure the thermostat is avoiding direct sunlight or drafts. Oftentimes we find that behind the stove about 5' up on the wall is ideal placement for the thermostat. Keep an eye on it and let us know if you have any questions moving ahead. Appreciated.

      Thanks for the message. Sometimes the auger motor can become a bit stuck. Try tapping the motor with a mallet on both sides and/or lightly tapping with a hammer around the shaft and set screw connection. Yeah, sounds like the gears in the motor are weak; once you have it out you can bench test it for operation and torque. Keep us posted, happy to help.

      @EarthSense  11 місяців тому

      @@Tanya-mh2hn Thanks for the message Tanya. If the smell is coming from the auger motor, then most likely grease ran dry and gears burned up. Grab a good light and double check all the component wires just to make absolutely sure we don't have any loose wires or any exposed wires grounding out. Regarding the E5 error - what make and model is your stove? Generally in this case it's going to be something that created a direct short. Certainly could be the auger motor seizing up, but important to visually inspect all wires. Additionally, let's empty out the fuel hopper and make sure there is nothing foreign or jammed in the auger shaft that caused the motor to burn up. Let us know your stove model when you can. Thanks.

      Hey Sophia, Sometimes we have come across this. Try to grab a small hammer or mallet and lightly to medium give some taps on the motor and by the connection shaft and let's see if we can bust it loose. Most units will have the set collar, so just make sure that's loosened all the way, others have a set pin or cotter pin securing the motor to the shaft - let's double check that everything is free and clear, give it some taps and see if we can get it to drop out.
