Is Valencia Doomed?

- Valencia is in trouble. The historic club in La Liga is now on the brink of much more than relegation, its towering debt has been buoyed by a billionaire owner who appears to have lost interest, or worse, may be milking the club for all it’s worth to stay afloat himself. It’s a nasty situation that is becoming all too common in the modern game.
I hope for the sake of the fans there is a quick resolution, but I’m not too quick to jump on the ‘trash the owner’ boat, the situation is complicated and may be a something out of the ownership groups control. The Peter Lim group might have already jumped on a sinking ship and just kept it from sinking a bit longer.
Much Love,
The Zealand

Hey Z! Valencia season ticket holder here, and Big fan of the Channel. Thank you for letting the world know about our current situation, these are sad days for a club that is more than 100 years old. Love from Spain
Is the club shop permanently shut or something. Went to get something the other day and it said it was closed. Was only in port for a day though

I had to give this a thumbs up simply for the consistent Voro interludes. 😂

Valencia hired Gary Neville as Manager, the biggest crime of them all.
How sad, I'm in year 6 of my FM22 save as Valencia, Lims out and we finally moved into the new finished ground. I much prefer my fantasy save over this reality.
How long did it take for Lim to leave?
@@LupusImmortalis I think year four
thats a strange coincidence, I'm 10 years into my Valencia save and it was about year 4 that Lim left for me as well! Hope it happens irl soon

@@ericsohn5084 no, but I don't think he was on the team when I started the save. Still have Gaya, Guedes, Soler and Musah thou
Ever since I went to Valencia 2018, I fell in love with the city and the club, I literally learned everything I could about them, visited the stadium, and adopted them as my Spanish team. So yeah, seeing what's happened to them makes me very upset and angered that Tebas (the utter prick) hasn't stepped in to do something about his pillaging of the club. How can you fire a great coach like Marcelino and basically force Parejo to leave on a free? A bullshit state of affairs for such a great club.
The answer is probably that Lim has some dirt that would get rid of Tebas least we'd have seen one of the two if not both ousted.
Parejo’s transfer was bullshit but actually Marcelino was ousted because he was taking commissions from some signings and he was warned but he kept doing it so he was fired in the end, still quite a loss though.
@@Eibarwoman it's nothing that deep. Tebas is just a corrupt old fart that refuses to go away. He doesn't have a good opinion on anything but always says stuff to stay in the spotlight.
Very likely to get another term while he is doing absolutely nothing to improve the league.
Thanks for talking about the situation of the club I support. During this last 10 years, we have been subjected to constant suffering due to the chaotic decisions that Peter Lim has taken.
Dani Parejo was a sad story. They made him to Villarreal of all places.
Talents like Lee Kang-in were let go, too.
It's because of stories like this, that the Bundesliga has the 50+1 rule.
Yeah, that's a good reason. I still wish someone could acquire Dortmund to make it truly stand up to Bayern, though 😔
It’s still weird seeing Parejo with a Villarreal jersey
As a long time Valencia fan, what the club've gone through in recent years breaks my heart.
How are they lookin this year?
This season start has been pretty good but it wont last long@@ColGesso
American who fell in love with this club when they had villa and Silva. No idea situation was this bad. Hoping for the best!
Singaporean here. Maybe just an explanation on how most bosses here behave ...
Or maybe not. His daughter's messages showed how they think. "We are the bosses. We do what we want, because we are rich (and you are not)." Literally "why people cannot understand that WE ARE THE OWNERS". They literally think that just because of this, they can do anything they want, and yet when consequences hit, they dodged them with more scapegoats ... And when there are scapegoats, it is never their fault.
"The entire world is wrong, I am right." The frightening part about this ironically funny statement is how the local bosses really believe so. So, a few comments here on how Peter Lim would keep the club purely out of spite at this point is true. Deep sigh ... 😮💨
This also clearly shows that they don't understand sports. On a spiritual level, clubs/teams belong to the fans.
It’s worth mentioning that Peter Lims transfer policy is to buy players represented by Jorge Mendes (who Lim is in business with) at hugely inflated prices and thus taking money out of the club and into his friends pockets. LIMVETEYA!
Mendes has agreements like this at many clubs and none of it is beneficial to football. Even mourinho did it, bringing Dalot to united with no real intention of using him, at a hugely inflated fee.
wtf jorge mendes is everyone manager
Thanks for the video, however I think you missed one of the most important parts of the story, which is the influence of agent Jorge Mendes on the club's downfall. He is Lim's friend and he often shows how much control he has over the transfer policy or even the club's structure, you only have to check transfermarkt to see the amount of players brought in and sold by Mendes and his associates, sometimes even ignoring failed medical tests just to get that millionaire commision. Mendes also gives advice to Lim on how to handle the situation inside the club and it is very likely that he was behind Marcelino and Mateu Alemany's (who is now a hero at Barça) firing due to them not wanting to sign some players they were told to. Now it seems like Lim just wants to destroy the club out of pure resentment, as he decided to end a champions league project losing hundreds of millions of euros and does not want to invest in the club either.
Also, former president Anil Murthy was an alcoholic that ridiculised the club in front of other presidents countless times.
Loved Valencia back in the David Villa, Baraja, Mata, David Silva, Ayala era.
Don't forget the likes of Joaquin, Vicente, David Albelda and Marchena too! They had such a tasty squad in some of the Football Managers. The only downside was their budget, so you couldn't improve the team and often got raided by bigger clubs!

@@micas290 o Valencia é um s.a.d. também
@@psibrunojusto sim mas é diferente de como funciona em portugal
Benfica and Sporting fans would've enjoyed that purchase 😜
Peter Lim main reason to buy Valencia was also rumoured to be property development, Thats why he tried to build a new stadium but then it fell through because of commercial rights or not being viable anymore
But the thing was the half-built stadium was already there before he bought us. The real reason he bought us was that we were the biggest club available to buy at the time.
That happened to my home club, Central Coast Mariners too
@@jaelenhounsell yea cos the loser couldn’t buy liverpool. He tried hard to get liverpool
Valencia before Simeone's arrival they had the 3rd highest point tally of all time in la Liga.
Since the 2000s, 2 LaLigas, 2 Champions League finals (1 lost in penalties to Bayern), won the UEFA Cup (Liga+UEFA double), a few Copas del Rey and a regular in European competitions.
For a short while Valencia felt like a more attractive option for some players than Barcelona to sign to, having World Class players, but during Mourinho-Guardiola era it felt like they had cemented themself as a valid 3rd place team, as financial issues ramped up, creating a "stagnation" that led to title races being a thing of the past.
It kind of reminded me of the Dortmund or Schalke of the Bundesliga, I just hope it doesnt follow through with going down like Schalke did...
They had a stadium being built that would have 72k capacity to capitalise on their success and massive fanbase but its been paralised since 2009 half way through the build. Now there is talks of downgrading its design and capacity by like 10-15k and remove the plans for an underground parking lot (which makes the project feel kind of redundant) just to continue the build because obvious the city council has complained about the massive ruins of cement in middle of the beautiful city...
An interesting Story is that the Prince of Johor, who basically created the most successful football team in Malaysia and is close to Peter Lim, showed repeated serious intentions of BUYING the club off Lim, watching matches at the stadium and posting about the legacy, history of the club, how beautiful the city is and how he would like to contribute to its success on his Instagram. However, after talks with Lim, the posibility of the takeover seemed to have vanished out of nowhere, either because of the incredibly strict Financial regulations imposed in LaLiga on clubs, making spending very restrictive, specially if these clubs are managing a debt, such as Barcelona or Valencia; or because he was straight up rejected by Lim because he refused to let go of "his asset".
I guess thats what the Worst Owners possible for almost 10 years, bad owners prior to Lim, bad dealing with debt plus other financial issues and HORRIBLY intrusive punishing LaLiga financial restrictions by Tebas does to a club that could and should 100% be in Atletico Madrid's position competing alongside them :(
the best the fans can do now is not buy tickets and merchandise or boycott games to force them to sale the club cause you are definitely getting relegated this season
showing the Bremen relegation at the end... That hurt. I still remember when Werder played Valencia in the UCL KO stage. My father should still have a custom matchday hat, one side was the VCF logo, the other SVW logo. Good times, good times....
Just give voro the job at this point
As a Singaporean i say he aint really liked here either. Valencia was just used as his backup plan when it was reported Liverpool was Lim only one club he wanted and he did Bid before FSG bought liverpool. He isnt a football fan just a dude looking to make investments.
Kim lim divorced twice.

Interesting to note, Peter Lim owns half of Salford City, so he appointed his own minority owner as the manager at Valencia
he's one corrupt muhfugger
To be fair to him Neville was always touted as one of Fergie’s smartest players and the one he always said would have a good managerial career. I still think he just bit off more than he could chew and if he’d started off taking a low key job in the lower leagues he’d still be a manager now. If Lim had just given Beckham or Scholes the job then I’d say it’s 100% nepotism 😂
Smart people do not nessesarily become good man managers.
@@finding_aether no but reading the game is a vitally important attribute. I remember Fergie saying that there were times where Neville would spot things the opposition were doing and suggest tweaks even before his assistant coaches had. I’m not saying he would have been the next Pep, just that I don’t think he’s this “worst manager of all time” label he currently has 😂
@@BigPurp9 but its not just about tactics. You need to get the player's respect which I think Neville's personality will be hard to get (as a manager... not as a pundit).. i don't think he is the type that will be able to get players to run thru brick walls for him. This is not a slight on him. I don't doubt that he can be a good scout, analyst or coach. But to be a manager is different.
I think T.Henry (who i feel has a similar personality to G.Neville) found that out as he was loved as a coach but not so loved as a manager. Fergie himself admit he is not the best at tactics and often left the training to coaches. But he was one of the all-time greats at man managing and strategizing for Man Utd.
I think a lot of football fans don’t realise quite what a huge football club Valencia are. I remember growing up watching them win La Liga, make back-to-back Champions League finals and have legendary players like Canizares, Mendieta, Aimar... Mestalla is an iconic stadium too and absolutely on my bucket list. Hope they can survive and get back to where they belong. 🦇
I saw one person say that Graham Potter should manage Valencia. I felt like that Valencia is too big of a club for him. It's a shame that Peter Lim had made it seem like that isn't the case.

i´m sitting here in germany and wondering how many of these foreign clubs in the big leagues actually have barcelona level debts. man i´m glad our clubs are at least "somewhat" required to have a balanced budged.
the problem is that Tebas arrived and put the most restrictive policy about this in all Europe. But whats the point of creating a system to prevent losses when you were years and years permiting Bartomeu, Lim, etc spending without limits? There wasnt a problem in 2018 when Barcelona and Valencia were spending a lot, but now you are so restrictive with them. Worse the remedy than the disease
@@jnca98 a first step has to be made. it could have been barca back then or valencia now. the question that i ask myself is: do they want to wait till it comes out that half the league is bankrupt or do they make a press conference now and tell the league. "Listen fellas, there is something called financial fair play, and we implement it. If by 2025 your club does not meet the requirements you´re going to be punished hard. If it´s like the known examples barca, valencia prepare yourself to be relegated. Let it be known that we don´t make examples for big clubs if you don´t meet the requirements you´re out. there´s plenty of clubs in the secunda devision that will take your place gladly so get your finance in order."

Madrid fans are complaining low spent despite recent wins. Betis sold Bartra to Turkey bc of his wage.... I mean... BARTRA. Atlético is also struggling... All La Liga is spending less than ever
The problem with that point is that u think chairmans care about his team future... Bartomeu knew he wasnt going to be in Barça when all exploded, Valencia is not even 10% of Lim patrimony, etc. Your point is "bread for today, hunger for tomorrow", but they dont care and thats not fair for fans who still
Also, I think no one in Europe does this, not Italy, not Germany, not England. Barça is mediatic, but ask an Oviedo fan, for example, this is happenning everywhere in Spain. Valencia getting relegated would be shocking! Never seen them get relegated in 33 years ive watched La Liga. Its literally Spains 4th biggest club historically
1. Real Madrid
2. Barcelona
3. Atletico Madrid
They were a consistent top 4 to top 6 team for multiple decades and competed for the title more than a dozen times. Has literally the 4th biggest fan base in Spain after the big 3. This team should be competing for top 4 every season with Sevilla generally. What a shame and literally a wasted opportunity for such a big club. Hopefully they get new owners who care and can turn it around and make it again what it once was a competing side in La Liga against the big 3 and a threat on the European stage in CL & EL like it use to be. It has the history the fan base to be able to retain this stature again.

So, Marcelino spoke out and got fired after winning a trophy. I was about to compare that to 1998, when Jupp Heynckes won the UCL and still got fired by Real Madrid after only a season.
He actually invested in Valencia with loans, both money and players(look it up) to make it a bit worse. Salvo the current president at the time said that the only other bid that was serious other than the "Russian Maffia"(quote) and bids like that, was Wanda who is a serious player that has invested in Atletico Madrid and owns like 30% shares there I believe.
Palm oil was actually something new to me, he might need to use some in that face because his skin looks like he had a meeting with Pinhead in Hellraiser or something. Also a tip for the daughter and probably next Director of Football.
He refused to congratulate Marcelino and the rest of the squad when winning CdR which, money-wise, doesn't mean anything but for a supporter it meant everything after 10 years or so. So he did congratulate him(I doubt it) when qualifying for CL, but refused to do the same to the squad and coach when winning the cup. Then Marcelino never asked, or Alemany, for big signings just players he worked with in the past - not Mendes puppies and complete third wheels.
Talk about striking luck like winning the lottery with that Palm-oil investment almost like Bitcoin back in the day. Zero understanding about Football, fincances - originally the son of a fisherman and he should have stuck to fish, palm-oil and at the best polishing shoes.

All I'm saying is this is the main fault of Javier Tebas. La Liga's president, as rather than helping a club in crisis such as Valencia, he's targeting another club in financial ruin Barcelona, not for the good of La Liga, but because he's a Real Madrid fan.
And we wonder why La Liga is not the best right now, blame him.
I feel like Tebas is kept in power by certain other clubs further down the pyramid in the Segunda Division where his policies weaken La Liga teams to where a just promoted side can catapult themselves well up the table. See Girona this season or Rayo Vallecano last season.
@@Eibarwoman I agree!! He only wants to see Real Madrid and promoted clubs do well whilst screwing over clubs.
The state of La Liga is thanks to him. He needs to go, but due to those clubs lower down he won't.
@@harry69007 There's another team that plays heavily into Tebas' interests, Athletic Bilbao due to their recruitment policy, stadium capacity, multiple language broadcasts (Basque), and relative popularity. The two big things he wants is Real Madrid to win and Athletic Bilbao being in La Liga (given the media money for broadcasting in both Spanish and Basque as Basque language broadcasts really only have a market for about 5 teams in the top 2 Spanish leagues).
Edit: The Bilbao part might explain half of the "team destruction" policies from FFP in Spain as Bilbao can't recruit their way out of this problem without Man City levels of money.
its not the main fault of Tebas what?! Lim is 1000% at fault for us being in this situation. Tebas's rules sure have made things extremely hard but we were already downsloping long before Tebas. He has had next to nothing to do with our collapse. It's Lim being generally horrendous in the market and keeping a major share of profits from player sales as the reason for why we are here.
@@jaelenhounsell i'm with you. It's obvious that Tebas is a horrendous character, but the main reason for our downfall is Lim. Many other teams are doing well both financially and on the pitch, even with Tebas, so I dont think Tebas is the main problem

I pray Yunus Musah can make a big move to somewhere in France or Germany.
He’s too good for that team alongside Guillamon and Gaya
That ‘American’ can drop down to the second tier
@@JesseShortss He actually isn't. Yunus Musah is actually one of the worst performing players at the club this season alongside Guillamon. Yunus Musah is almost comically one-dimensional as a player, only being able to progress the ball well. He is less than average going forward and he is actually terrible defensively. The only reason why he does well for the USMNT is because Musah is getting carried in midfield by both Tyler and Weston McKennie. He doesn't have to worry about covering because typically Tyler or Weston(depending on who is available at the time) can cover that for him and he doesn't need to worry about being an offensive threat because traditionally he has Weston(who kinda just does any role needed pretty well for the USMNT) or Gio that can be the offensive threat. If Yunus doesn't have a ball winner in a midfield three with him, he doesn't play well. He is also just extremely prone to dribbling at opponents only to lose the ball. Definitely overrated because of good WC performances. The man has fully stagnated and has been pretty much the same player for the past two years with little signs of improvement in either offense or defense and at this point it can't be put on bad managers anymore. He isn't actually good for his club and hasn't ever really been good for us. He doesn't deserve to be at a team fighting for titles and isn't good enough to make that step up from Valencia.
