First video I’ve found on UA-cam detailing the basics of tuning one of these trucks from the start (fueling then timing). Thank you. Obviously most of your knowledge comes from experience, but any recommended literature for someone who hasn’t tuned before (i.e.- myself 😑). I understand the basics from reading, but want to educate myself about the specifics about my ‘01 Lightning so I can slowly street tune it myself (didn’t know the specifics about the PCM strategy that pulls timing at an IAT2 threshold; looking for more specifics like that).

Waiting to take my 02 L with new forged bottom end, stock heads cams. Everything. Just bored .020 over and then I bought maf sct ba 3000, 6lb lower, wide band, and fluidyne heat exchanger. I’m hoping to make around 400. I do plan on getting blower ported soon too though and headers. I also need the sct x4 hand held tuner lol just waiting on more money
Good stuff.
This is the best time with bolt ons. The truck is most enjoyable. 6lb lower and the larger reservoir makes a nice difference.
The stock Eaton is a true pleasure to drive wirh great throttle response and predictable control. The kenne bell makes a bit more power on pump gas wirh 19psi but imo ruins the feel of the truck.

Just seen your video.. I'm doing a lighting engine swap into my 97 f150 with t56.. plan on TB, 6lb lower, MAF, LONGTUBES AND 3 INCH DUALS with x pipe..what do you think it will do? Do you do Mail order tunes or just dyno?
Just a street truck.goel is 400/500 rwhp
My trick came with a 4.6 5 speed .it's a 2wd.
I'll be using the stock 97 4.6 computer

how do you interface ecm with computer ? I have ordered SCT 4 TUNER but how can you get into adjusting all the fuel and timing parameters ?

Question: How do you get The Lightning to push 700 HP? Because that's the ballpark im looking for mine. Cammed? Smaller upper pulley? Bigger lower pulley? Ported Engine? Any other reasonable mods?

Lol to get 700 outa these trucks your talking built, you need forged rotating assembly for bottom end. For it to hold much more than stock safely

Any idea if these trucks pick up any power with headers on the dyno and how much ?
They do pick up power I haven’t done a before and after test in headers alone so I can’t tell you how much power they make
Mine picked up 17 going from stock manifolds to long tubes. Every mod I did, I did a dyno run after. I'm sitting at 474/511 right now. Stock (rebuilt) long block bored .030, 6lb lower, 2lb upper, long tubes, 60# injectors, walbro 255 pumps, FAL efan, afco dual pass heat exchanger, self ported Eaton, 170 degree t-stat, jlt cold air I modified to a ram air. I run 14 degree timing on the street and have a 16 degree race tune. At the track it runs in the 11s. Good air and cool, best was 11.3 with good track prep. Crappy air and a warm day, usually high 11s. These trucks are a blast and can be made fairly quick for not a lot of money.

@@Alex3lizondo damn, so the speedo is in MPH? That thing flies up that speedo in 3rd! Plus thats a super long gear from 60ish to 130
Throttle body is a waste of money if you want easy power on a lightning. All you need is a #4 lower pulley, spark plugs, cold air intake and a Dyno tune.
