"You Don't Mess Around With Jim" was originally recorded and released by Jim Croce in 1972. If you don't know, you better ask somebody. The song tells of a tough but not-too-smart pool hustler by the name of "Big Jim Walker" who gets what's comin' to him by Willie "Slim" McCoy. The song was a hit for Jim Croce and led to the follow up "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown". I personally love the original song for the story telling and harmony, but the scatting Jim does at the end of each chorus is just the cherry on top. Bah doh doo da da deet dee dee deet dee. Thanks for watching!

It's great that Geoff has four twin brothers and they can sing in chorus 😂😂😂
And they're all so handsome!
Yeah, but 3 of them are SUPER annoying.
@@GeoffCastellucci only 3?
@GeoffCastellucci I'm sure they are, but as you're the eldest it's your job to keep them in line. 😉😂
@@shelleeroe3152 yes geoff 2, geoff 3 and geoff 5 are annoying, but geoff and geoff 4 is pretty cool dudes.
I’m thinking Geoff had a secrecy cloning facility
"I'm Geoff Castellucci, a simple guy..." he says in the description. But let me tell you this one has it all! Plus he keeps outoing himself! I bow to you, Mr. Castellucci.
Dang it! Now I want to hear him sing Simple Man. 😁
His Spotify description is (and has been) “Secretly a fire truck by night” and that was largely the reason I started following him. The humor and talent are why I keep following him
That was great ❤ Love the dog, too 😅
Lemme tell you brother, Lemme tell you! About Geoff.
There is nothing simple about you, sir
I would love to believe that somewhere Jim Croce is smiling, smoking on a cigar, propped up on a stool behind his guitar and smiling at Geoff for this rendition. RIP Mr. Croce, we surely miss you! Great one, Geoff.
Indeed!😊
I'm fondly remembering all of Jim Croce's songs that I loved so much as a teen. Lover's Cross was a particular favorite to sing and play. I'm so grateful Geoff decided to refresh his legacy. What an amazing songwriter Jim was.
Oh, he'd LOVE this one for sure!
how the living F is Jim Croce not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
But in all likelihood, Jim Croce is in a rubber suit, rubbin’ these cars.
It's like the guys from Sixteen Tons grew up and got scarier. Probably because Daryl joined them. You don't mess around with Daryl.
NEVER mess around with Daryl!
And the guy from Sixteen Tons is one of the survivors that Big John saved.
This thread just makes me happy. The LORE
Daryl’s the man. Period.
@@GeoffCastellucciOMG Geoff, you keep getting better & better. How is that even possible ? Be still my heart ❤

Oh yesss, it's not just the music. I'm looking at those arms 👀
=)))))))))
Give Geoff any dusty old song... Geoff adds his voice to spice up the wonder with depths and heights and perfect harmony and a big dose of freshness... and you've got another masterpiece!
He does all this with such easy confidence as if there was no hard work behind it.
I'll never get tired of Geoff dusting off the old tunes! 🔥🎶💙
Hey be nice I’m that old to remember it when the song was new. lol
This song came out when I was 11. Loved it then. Love it now, especially with Geoff's treatment!
Dusty old song? CLASSIC old song!
Абсолютно верно!!!
Thanks!
Sir! SIR!!!! The arms!! The bass!! The harmonies! You sir need an award of some type

Totally AGREEEEE
He IS an award of some type. And those of us who get to watch and listen are the winners.
@@jenerhart7025 very true
Not sure there is one that cover all those categories.

Amen
I swear the older he gets, the better looking he gets!
Ain't that the truth~ about choked when I saw him~ damg
Hrs so hot
Thank you. Jim Croce doesn't get enough remembrance.
Geoff’s voice is like wine. It keeps getting better with age.
I'm not convinced he ages.
The older the violin, the sweeter the music!
How about saying "It gets better with time"? Not to mention hard work and practice, practice, practice!
"Well she's dead, Jim." Ya done did me in with your Bass. When I thought you couldn't hold that low note any longer, you done did it again....even lower. Your breath control is definitely legendary and your bass the 8th wonder of the world. Don't mind me as I sit quietly in my corner and listen to this on loop forever.
TOTALEMENT D'ACCORD AVEC VOUS !!! Amicalement, NELLY, BELGIQUE. 😊
I so wish my dad were still here so I could share this with him. He loved this song.
Ditto!
Another ditto here.
I remember listening to this song with my dad, along with many others Sir Geoff has dusted off and redone. Wish I could share them with him.
You are great...keep up with hat God gave you as a blessing..I hope you make lots of money since that's what this world is about ...truth hurts ....I do enjoy your voice...
Advise...just pick the right woman that appreciates you for what you are
The animating energy in a human never dies, just changes shape... You can share things with those no longer in their temporary physical vehicle through an open, coherent heart. When you relieve the (particularly happy) memories, that rush of emotion is a filament,if you will. Connection .
...
I swear this man could be singing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" and he'll still find a way to slip in a "Come on!" in there, somehow. :D
You must admit that it’s fun waiting for that “come on.”
This one in black undershirt has the best voice
Ha!
Nah man it’s the one with the necklace
@@Lowlife856 left one or right one?
Definitely the left
Of the one on the far right
It's amazing how Geoff keeps his bass voice while retaining Jim Croce's original key.
Don't mess around with Jim? Don't mess around with Geoff. I was just getting used to four, now there is five! My heart and ears can't take much more. Where do I send my medical bills to? Because if I keep listening to this gentle giant, I will need to seek medical advice. Oh Geoff you hurt so good!!!!!!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥
Im not messing with him...just know nothing lasts long...we all get old..lso I encourage him to get it while he can
My comments are never as good on songs that I really, really like 🤣 It’s so much harder to be pithy when you’re flailing around like Kermit going full muppet from sheer glee.
I’ve been dreaming of this one since I saw your cover of Big Bad John. Seriously, thank you!
MUPPET PANIC!
It’s all four Geoff’s! Including Daryl. We got Geoff, Daryl, Goff, Jeff, and Jeoph.
This is AMAZING ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I feel bad for the inmates at Folsom Prison, they lost a great cook
The Geoffersons!
Oh I don't think I've ever heard his voice when it's not been Uber low... He has a really nice range and a gorgeous voice no matter what note he sings in
Brilliant cover of this classic song -- well done, Geoff!
nobody else wants to go 'awwwww' over the adorable golden dog? because awwwww, so cute!
Don't mess around with Geoff! He's the best!
I couldn't have 'typed' (said) it better myself
I see there's a new Castalluci vid, I click. That's all I need to know.
That being said, another triumph! The voice and the range are a given, but I love the minimalism in this one: no props, no costumes, just Geoff.
And to top it off, switching up genres yet again. We never get the same old same old from Geoff, he's always keeping it fresh.
Gods I miss Jim Croce. He was an artist.
Indeed, he was. “Operator,” “Time in a Bottle,” “I’ll Have to Say ‘I Love You’ in a Song….”
When it comes to dusting off old tunes and making them exciting and fresh and new, you don’t mess around with Geoff. 💪🏻
Once again, Geoff, you’ve blown me away with your arrangement. I’ll never tire of you surprising me with a minor chord when I was expecting a major (and don’t even get me started on your love of minor 7 chords 😍). ‘Man of Constant Sorrow’ better watch its back - we may have a new contender for favourite song.
Sitting here with tears in my eyes picturing my dad's reaction to this. As with so many of the older songs you cover,he loved this one. Thank you for keeping these songs alive.
5 Geoff’s this is no joke⚠️⚠️

Wow such harmonies, depth of low notes, great hair and biceps for days Kathy sure is a very lucky woman to be sure ❤❤❤❤❤
Some women have it all.
I remember exactly where I was when I heard Jim Croce had died. What a huge loss that is still for all of us.
Thanks Geoff for doing this song!
"Time in a Bottle" was our song (my beloved hubby of 38 years and mine). We would dance to it whenever it played on the radio. He would always "dip" me at the end of it. I sang it to him as he lay dying in hospice and I think he heard me. Can't hear it to this day, 14 years later, without bursting in tears. Life is filled with tragic losses.

And the gift of sweet memories...🌹🤟❤️
Jim Croce is proud. You have performed his creation with great heart. Well done, sir!
Jim Croce was my idol back in the 70's; thank you for keeping Jim's memory and music alive 💜💙💚
Mine too!!
I swear, every time he has to hit that low gravelly growl... he has WAY too much fun with it, and I love it! I swear can see it in his eyes.
When I was a kid, it was a testament to how much I loved a song, if I skipped a couple of lunches at school so I could use the money to buy the 45! Lots of singers have been loved and some forgotten over the years, but Jim Croce has never left my playlist. Delighted to see one of my most recent faves do such an excellent arrangement and cover!
So, I'm guessing that Jim, Big Bad John, and the Riders in the sky all met at the House of the Rising Sun after hauling 16 tons? Our area just survived a tornado storm 2 days ago, only to be leveled by a Geoff-quake.
You know when 5 of Geoff show up, someone's going down!
Well done again, sir!! Jim Croce would be very happy with you, I'm sure. ❤
No, I would never mess around with anyone with a voice like that. 🎶👀
😅
Please, please more songs like this one! This style suits you so incredibly well, Geoff!
Best wishes from Germany

Loved this Jim Croce classic. Sent shivers 😍
This one's a total bop! 🥰🥰
Without being, you know, too boppy...which is quite the achievement!
@@patriciaschuman4205 the right amount of bop!
Very, very nicely done....beautiful and tight.....thanks for sharing, sir!
Geoff doesn’t need to open his door, he hums and the molecules rearrange
Yeah, I was waiting for one of the Geoffs to resolve that low note, and then he did, and then I melted into a puddle on the floor!
As a music teacher, I really appreciate how Geoff and the Geoff's cover songs that I have never heard before. I do the research and go teach them to my students! The songs that Geoff chooses are a completely different style than what students are listening to now. They are more thought-provoking.
I've had many students. Tell me that they really enjoy the material!
Do you also teach your students the originals? It would be a great way for them to realize that music from their (grand)parents' generation can be great?
My dad was a huge Jim Croce fan and a guitar player. He'd have loved your arrangement.
Yay, another song from Geoff! I'm beside myself with joy!
(So is Geoff, apparently.)
💪😃💪😃💪😃💪😃💪😃
I love your cleverly veiled humor. This definitely deserves more likes.
“Beside myself”…😂🤣🤭Good one, Gretchen. (You are clever and also witty!😊)
Somehow this combines all of my very favourite things in a Geoff cover and I'm obsessed. It's got a real crunchiness to it that I can't get enough of. So good. Geoff, thank you for once again sharing your gifts with us!
I gotta say, the camera shake effect timed with the bass parts just makes it 100 times better :)
Love the shake on the stomp, really syncs with how big Jim is. Beautiful singing & fun arrangement as always! Please keep making these fantastic videos!
So happy I’m a patron and got to hear this early! I can’t wait until the reactor videos come out, they’ll be on the floor!
Now I've got to watch Mortius's channel for his take!
Jeff, I’m 66 and have heard many singers but never one with your beautiful range and voice. I know that must take a lot of work that people don’t realize. Anyway, I just wanted to say I’m a big fan and congratulate you for your success. WELL deserved!
Someone give this guy 10 million subscribers.
Yessss!☺️
Unglaublich, wie kann Mann nur so gut aussehen und dann auch noch so eine Stimme haben? Jedes Video ist ein neues Highlight. Viele Grüße aus Berlin Germany
I'm from Canada, not Germany, but I wholeheartedly agree.
What the heck even-? How does he DO that?? It's like Geoff has the Midas Touch, but it's his voice. Everything this man sings turns to pure gold~
Ikr? I always either like his covers just as much as the original or (as in this case) even more
Me: How many octaves do you cover?
Geoff: All of them.
AWESOME!!! Jim Croce was taken way too soon. It really brings a smile to my heart that you chose this one. Keep it up! I love you ❤️💕🌟
I love the story-telling style of song to begin with and when you put your hand to arranging one... pure magic 🪄
❤❤
Nobody does badass better than you!
Jim Croce is one of my favorite singers ever. You not only did the song justice, you elevated it to new heights!
As soon as I saw the thumbnail, I was like, "Uh oh - there's 5 of them this time!" And they didn't (never!) let me down!
A great cover of a classic American song!

It doesn't matter if it's a song I know & love or if it's a song I don't know, Geoff manages to make each song unique and amazing! This song is on repeat!
My heart is very protective of Jim Croce, but you, dear Sir, made my heart leap for joy! Excellent job!!! More Croce songs please! ❤
How the hell does Geoff get better and better! There has to be some upper limit or the universe will implode.
Omgg Geoff this is just so freaking amazing😍😍 I love the feeling that you gave this song, the original is more upbeat and I love how you changed that in your version, it is still upbeat but you gave your own twist to it! And I love how simple the setting of the video is, it makes it feel like it is a fighting song. I love your arrangement for this one too, all of the different chords you use are just amazing😍 To be honest there is nothing that I don't like about this song, you did such a great job. Thank you so much for this amazing masterpiece and I will be listening to this a million times❤
Geoff's fight mode: activated 🔥🔥🔥
So glad to be a Patreon to be able to enjoy it before everyone!!
This guy is a gorgeous man through and through.❤❤❤
Unbelievable range. Excellent! ❤don't mess around with Jim.
I've been singing this on loop for a week. Transformed it into a song wiith such beat and rhythym. And the harmonies..oh boy.
Mr. Castellucci, you have done it again. You have made an old classic great again. Thank you for blessing us with such a great rendition of a great song. Geoff you and your voice are a blessing from heaven. You are in fact quite handsome too. Your wife is a lucky woman. Take care. Thank you for making me like that song again.❤
Jim made the fatal mistake of believing his own hype. It makes a guy careless. Wonderful as always!
Nicely done Geoff! Another brilliant performance from the mighty King of Bass!
Me: *casually puts this on repeat*
What a fun Mother's Day present! Yes, I said Mother's Day. My grandmother loved this song (especially the chorus) and would sing it to us all the time. You brought up so many memories and had us giggling and telling Grandma stories - after we had watched your video a bunch of times, of course. :-) Thank you!
Jim Croce, danced many a mile to this song and loved Time in a Bottle. Always love to see and hear what all the Geoff's and Daryl are up to. And as always a bright spot in my day, from all their songs to their readings. I was wondering do the other brothers help out with the readings?
Love "Time in a bottle". And Operator.
До чего же Ты хорош, Джефф!
Какое удовольствие слушать вас и смотреть на всех пятерых!❤
Geoff does it again!! This is excellent! Jack's Lament remains in First Place. Then it's about a 30-way tie for second! LOVE this guy.
Big Jim Croce fan here. You nailed it! I think Jim would have loved your version. As always, you did a bang up job. Can hardly wait to see what you'll do next 💖💖💖

My god! My throat hurts just listening to him! Saw Jim Croce concert not long before he died, fantastic show!
Omg, that was amazing! That bass voice just keeps getting better and better! 😍😍😍😍😍

If Jim Croce was here, he would smile broadly at your rendition of his classic song! ❤❤
He'd be SO proud & gleeful!!
This has been stuck in my head since it premiered, and I'm not mad about it. Just gonna keep listening on repeat.
You don't mess around, that's very clear. What a spectacular rendition of this song! Well done, Geoff

My favorite song by Jim Croce. You did it well, Geoff! Bet no one messes with you by the look of those "guns" on your arms! 😂
You have the most beautiful voice I've ever heard! Thank you for sharing your wonderful gift with us! I really love the fact that you do the oldy goldy songs. One old song you might want to look into is "yesterday when I was young". It's right up your ally, and could use your touch.
