Steve : Yea, very true. It is often fun, but not always fun. Toward the end of my loop, I was suffering from Acute Boat Maintenance Syndrome. If the bad days outnumber the good days, it is difficult to justify keeping on doing it.
You bounced up on my computer leaving Chicago heading south. I was interested so I started watching your adventure. It will be fun tagging along with you as a virtual crew member. Looking forward to catching your adventure. I have watched from buying the boat to here and a few of the loop videos. I hope you have a great trip.
hey boatguy good intro, will defintely be following your trip, good luck, maybe we'll see you out there. are you making this trip single handed? just curious.
one more thing boatguy might want to rethink your plans. they are going to repair all the locks on the illinois river, starting with partial shut downs in 2019 for 1 lock i read for 105 days and in 2020 forget about it almost everything will be shut down for months. keep your ears open about traffic on the illinois for sure.
Hi Barney. I have not heard about any dramatic 24-hours-per-day lock closures for long periods in 2019, although I suppose it is inevitable that some locks will be closed for a portion of the day on certain days; some closures planned, and others not so much. The forum on the Americas Great Loop Cruising Association is a pretty good resource for this kind of information. If I encounter a lock that will be closed for a couple hours or a couple days, that should not be a show stopper for me. I agree with you that the big closures planned for 2020 will be a major drag for the Loopers. Maybe that will spark a little more interest in the Down East Loop around Nova Scotia. On my trip this year, I'll be doing parts of it solo, and other parts with crew.
Watching all of your great loop trip. Thank you for sharing.
Boating looks like fun but it also looks like a lot of work. There definitely seems to be a trade off.
