    HOW to retire by 24:
    1. Start working at 13
    2. Save all your money for 11 years
    3. Live in a van, down by the river.

    • @TheReveller88
      @TheReveller88 4 роки тому +173

      Retiring at 24 is "a bit" of a stretch. One would need at least $1M by 24. To get to $1M by 24, one would have to invest at least $1k per week during 8 years of very great investments. Taxes taken into account. That's just an approximation. That means being able to generate an EXTRA $50k per year at 16 only, after essential needs are paid. Retiring that early is not about saving a lot of money, it's about making a lot of money, which is obvious. It's not impossible, but 99.999% of the teens won't achieve this. We are 280 000 viewers of that video, he is the 1 creator of that content that brings him an income. We are currently the 99.999%, he is currently the 0.001%.
      There are people who hate their jobs but they do it for the money and hope to retire maybe 10 years early, so they will continue working unhappy during 30 years. And there are people who maybe doesn't make the same amount of money but they love their job and they don't even think about retirement.
      Instead of trying to escape the work-life by wanting to make more money to retire early, it would be wiser to simply learn to enjoy every single day, including workdays. We all have to work in order for the society to run smoothly.

    • @Deci_Bella
      @Deci_Bella 4 роки тому +55

      Well, I personally think life loses all meaning if you don't work. Look at someone like Elon Musk - obviously it's not like he *has* to work for financial reasons, he already has all the money in the world. But to do something meaningful - THAT'S what gives you purpose.

    • @financiallift6185
      @financiallift6185 4 роки тому +34

      @@Deci_Bella I actually agree with you. But I think it's about feeling you HAVE to work versus wanting to. And plenty still work while being retired but do it as ''bonus' retirement money. Like they work part time on weekends at a coffee shop but don't need to.

    • @Deci_Bella
      @Deci_Bella 4 роки тому +4

      @@financiallift6185 Well, the more successful you are, the more opportunities you can create for yourself. Naturally, 99.9% of all people won't be able to contribute on such a grand scale as someone like Musk, but still, you can have many choices. It's the attitude that you'd rather do nothing that I have a problem with - there is nothing but degradation on that path.

I would like to retire early, about 30 is my goal. But retirement doesn't mean that you should do nothing. On the contrary, I will still create my art, develop games etc. because it fulfills me. Retirement for me only means that you are free to do what you want! You wanna work? do it. You wanna chill and do nothing? do it. You wanna create something? do it. You wanna look for a relationship? do it, the list goes on and on. I think that's what a lotta people are missing here tbh It's about the freedom.

I wish I had this foresight at your age (currently 24 now) and I look forward to seeing how you choose to enjoy your life once you are no longer tied down by the need to make money. As someone who has spent the last 6+ months taking time off from work to re-evaluate what's important to me in life and questioning how I might be able to re-imagine the world in which I live, I have found it incredibly healing and incredible to see beyond my own narrow perspective and gain more insight into what it truly means to be human. I realize that we are encouraged to spend our whole life working so that we are unaware or unable to engage in conversations of social inequality and social justice and taking this time to myself has really allowed me to educate myself and be more involved in these conversations. I used to think that life was just about achieving prestige and making money and living comfortably but now I realize that, at least to me, it's about leaving a meaningful impact on the world and moving our society forward in a way that creates more opportunity and freedom for everyone.

I've since tried to boost my income and will be starting to save aggressively, starting this month, to add to my 33k I already have. It's going to take me to the age of 45 before I hit 1 million in my portfolio, based on my calcs and projections...so it's going to take a while. I could maybe do it earlier, but it depends on how some things play out. I'm looking forward to FI, because I'm deeply unhappy at my job, but it's stable income and I'm good at it. For most of us, even if your job is fine, it's still a job, and there are still days when you wish you didn't have to show up. And honestly, I don't think there's anything wrong with that. There's more to life than jobs. To me, the goal is to find a job you generally don't mind doing and that pays you adequately and then build up your life outside of work (for instance, maybe by exploring early retirement).

    One of my best friends here and I discovered we're both quite Mustachian and we're both engineers. He got laid off though at the beginning of the pandemic and was out of work for a few months. As gungho as he was about FIRE before that, he quickly became 'bored af' and eager to work full time again, even though he did woodwork, scuba diving, camping, you name it, and is satisfied in his love life. He found a new job though and seems to think developing the frontend is quite simple and leaves something to be desired.
    The point overall in the case of my friend, he seems to have learned that what he previously thought he wanted is not what he actually wants now, but would be a path to boredom. So finding something to do you like is important, that might only come from experience and not research. And that's controversial, I think Call Newport among others says passion is overrated, and you like something by getting better at it. Maybe it's a personality difference, I don't think I get bored as easily.
    Spilled thoughts but I'm still figuring it out. Retired at 24 and just watching TV all day would be lame AF but being say a contractor who helps 6 month out of the year could be a compromise, and that's not exactly being retired.

      And while I'm at it, the best investment in my opinion is large tracts of land. Land is a buffer against worst-case scenarios where the stock market plummets 90% in a single day and your earnings STILL can't keep up with housing costs. Land has intrinsic value and can almost always be converted into arable and/or grazing land. Very VAST tracts of land can be continually subdivided into smaller plots, so your children and grandchildren can live independently. This actually attracts more wealth right off the bat because honestly the kids are more likely to entice a high-income spouse under those conditions. Most high earners live in cities but people naturally prefer a more bucolic lifestyle. If they get a dowry of a few free acres that offsets their commuting costs.

Most of us probably would want to volunteer to do something meaningful but feel kept inplace by a job that doesn't fulfill them just pays the bills.
    For myself, eventho I have a job, i still schedule my day in a small notebook and it does bring me small bits of joy knowing that I've completed tasks that I set up, not someone at the office.

    It's not all about retiring early. It's about enjoying life. That is why you pick a career or profession that you enjoy.

    I found your idea very fascinating, but also amusing. When you say defense, living on 3% rule for the rest of your life sounds impractical. If it is just only you, of course, you can make it. When you a partner and family to take care of, you cannot force them to live in a Minimalist Lifestyle. Overall you have given many inspiring insights though. Good Luck @24. :)

      Yes you can..... Find a partner who has the same mindset. Not everyone wants kids. And for those that do, ppl can have financial freedom and still have kids

      But also having a partner and/or children is a choice you make. If you don't like the idea of spending loads of your hard earned money on anyone else but yourself, no one is forcing you to :)

    Nice approach. I plan to retire at 40, currently I am 26. I plan to do so primarily by investing in real estates with positive cash flow and partially investing in dividend shares.

    I LOVE that you made a video on early retirement, because usually it’s not something that younger people in their 20s and 30s really dwell on. The key to early retirement is financial stability and good planning. Good luck and I hope that this is something that everyone who reads this achieves ❤️❤️❤️👋🏻👍🏻

    Ok, good concept, but what do you do about health insurance? Move to Canada/UK where there is socialized medicine. Working part-time and/or in any other profession than the one you had, is not retirement. You changed careers/jobs/work, you did not retire. Please do not confuse the two-they are not interchangeable.

    My goal is to retire early not just with dividend investing but other passive investments as well, I've come across people that make upto $30,000 passively on a monthly basis, and I'd really love tips and passive investment ideas to make me this much.

      passive income for retirement can be really helpful and profitable, when your money is put in the right places, been planning my retirement through the guidance of an adviser/broker and with her help, I generated a passive income of $180,000 from May till now, with no complex strategies, just basically following my broker's guidelines, so just get in touch with a professional for help.

    Amazing video! Im a 17-year old teen from Estonia and my passions are poetry and writing. But here in Estonia it is practically impossible to live of writing, if youre not one of the most famous authors. Thats why I work a lot now and invest almost all of my earnings. Im trying to grow myself a stable passive income so I still could write whatever I want and not worry about money.

    Kinda 47 years old just retired here. Main Recipe: live in an apartment in the suburbs. No kids. Most of the people will maximize their mortgage to buy the best house at the best place. Then be miserable at work 8 hours a day for 20 years to pay it back.
    Tip: Virtual reality for all your expansive hobbies. Now already good, in five years will be great, even to visit national parks, Nate ;-).
