For business tax expert Tony Nitti, the significance of this year’s presidential election for Main Street entrepreneurs can’t be understated.
“With zero hesitation, I can say this is the hardest voting decision small business owners have ever faced,” said the partner focused on federal tax at the accounting firm RubinBrown.
A coronavirus pandemic that has rocked many small businesses and caused a previously humming economy to fall into recession, civil unrest that led to downtown closures across the U.S., a cultural divide that is bigger than ever before - and that’s before taking into account the differences between President Trump and Joe Biden on the core business, tax and trade issues that historically have guided many business owner voting decisions.
“I do think there are more variables this election than in recent elections,” said Kevin Kuhlman, vice president of federal government relations at the National Federation of Independent Businesses. “The policy differences are stark, and we have the pandemic creating uncertainty and need for additional financial assistance. There are many short-term and long-term issues that would factor in, and would make a decision difficult.”
Entrepreneurs do vote in large numbers - 95% of small-business owners vote regularly in national contests, according to the National Small Business Association - and the demographic does skew conservative. Forty percent of small-business owners identify as Republican, versus 29% identifying as Democrats, and another 25% who say they are independent. An increasing portion of business owners indicate that they are voting on a more polarized basis. Straight party ticket votes have increased from 18% in 2014 to 27% today, according to a forthcoming survey from the trade group. In 2016, 40% said that neither party best represents their small business, but today, that number is down to 26%.
“More and more are picking sides,” said Molly Day, NSBA spokeswoman.

If you think this is hell imagine a world where most governments fail on debt. In the best case the state no longer gets loans and spending must suddenly be reduced by about 30%. In the worst case you have to actually pay the debt back, which is basically country-wide bankrupt. So you either get the Greece of the Venezuela scenario. Trust me, this is not enviable and potentially a lot more deaths than worst-case Covid. Debt is not infinitely stretchable.
If you say "well just raise taxes", no one knows exactly where we are on the Laufer curve. Chances are, we're at maximum tax utility. Maybe not, but it's no the kind of chance you want to gamble on when the alternative is bankrupt. Experiment another day.

He will terminate his membership with the boat club and tennis club and just park his boat in his back yard and play tennis in cheaper public courts. Consequently the boat club and tennis club who loses membership would have to fire many of their employees.

Yes. Taxes will increase ... at least back to where they were before for the über rich. In fact, the marginal tax rate for people earning over $10M should go up dramatically to 60% ore more (I'm not sure it will, though). As for spending, this is absolutely the right time to spend - though not a good time to give more tax breaks to the ultra-rich (who'll just bank it and not promote the public good). Interest rates are extraordinarily low and we'll pay it down with lower valued money. And we need huge investments in the country: roads, the power grid, high-speed universal internet coverage, renewable energy, etc. These are things we actually need AND they can simultaneously stimulate the economy that has been devastated by the president's ruining of the economy (via his handling of the pandemic). This is a 2 for 1. Hell, yes, we should do this.

The on thing the left really complained about was those deductions of state and local taxes of more than $12,400, which would only be possible for those in the higher income brackets. And those in those higher brackets need to be audited for previous tax years to make sure they didn't write that sales tax off on a business they own, then did it again on form 1040 and schedule A. It's really not that difficult to do this. It would be very simple to recognize if they committed fraud.

The goal has to be to end the ponzification of the markets, and move to the realistic approach of using earnings to pay dividends, salaries, and improve the company.
By the way, Wallstreet does not look for the government to spend a lot of money, government contracts around DC count on that, not Wallstreet. That is why the area around DC is considered the most wealthy, but not for those who don't work for a government contractor. It's not their money they spend, it's yours.

It was more about the relationship between presidential plans and how Congress modifies them before passage. Payroll tax up 12.4 half paid by employer on 400k incomes. Except employers will just pass that on to consumers or by lowering employee wages or denying raises.
