    This video is about HOW I POTTY TRAINED MY DOGS when they were puppies. We will share how to potty train your dog quickly.
    Time and time again many of our viewers have asked how I potty trained the girls. So in this video we are sharing the method we used to house break the two girls. We tried to simplify the method into 3 simple steps that you can follow. We hope this helps you and your future pup!
    Disclaimer: We are not dog trainers. There are many good and better dog training channels on the platform and you are free to search for them. We are simply sharing the method we used in potty training. This is not the only method and way of implementing the method. There is no one way of doing things ^^ Cheers!

    As much as I wish I had sent my dog to Brandon for training before bringing him home ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU I am so grateful for this down-to-earth, practical guide. His training techniques and tips really work. Thank you as well for dedicating your life's work to rescue dogs, and to rescuing those of us who want the very best for our 4-legged family members.

    Wish I would have watched this before I got my puppy. She’s 14weeks now and I think she’s finally realised not to go inside and she can hold it all night too. But it was quite stressful for the first few weeks, because we didn’t utilise the crate enough and get her into a routine

    Thank you for sharing your knowledge and technique of training the toy poodle to go to the toilet. I am currently using a play pen to control my poodle from peeing and pooing all over the house. I layer the floor of the play pen with old newspapers and top it up with newsprint as I don't want him to come into contact with the printing ink on the newspaper. Once he has sufficiently peed and pooed, I will let him out of the play pen. It is then I will clean the play pen of the soiled papers. It is effective but I have to clean the play pen many times a day.

    I had a roommate who was engaged to a girl who had a mini poodle. She was about three years old at the time, she was a rescue dog and had some serious anxiety issues. She had a habit of peeing on the couch. He eventually just broke up with her and pushed both of them out. It was frustrating and what he did to me a couple years later was very similar, I had some issues of my own(i didn't pee on the couch) but he pushed me out in a really nastier way. I plan to adopt a mini poodle of my own once I have my own place, ideally a house. I fell in love with the breed for those 6 months I lived with that poodle. They're such sweet dogs, and I will show love and compassion if I ever get the means to properly take care of one.

      @poodlemom  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Jeffrey! Thank you so much for sharing your story! I guess your roommate had his reasons which we will never understand. I guess there are just people like him. My parents for example are not exactly the best when it comes to my dogs which is why I took training them seriously to make them fit in the best way possible with my family!
      This is beautiful! I'm sure you would make a great pet parent to your future poodle! And I totally agree, they are such amazing dogs! I don't think I can ever imagine myself with a different breed XD

    I just do not know what happened they started to pee anywhere even on my couch! They know where
    to poop but forgot where to pee. Got no choice but to put them to diapers. I tried re-training again but
    failed for so many times! Got 2 shih tzus a couple and 2 poodles a couple too!

      @poodlemom  4 роки тому

      Hello! It varied from dog to dog. Summer was the fastest at 3 days. No mistakes. Followed by Winter for 1 week and last Bailey at 1-2 months, because she was toilet trained by her breeder to pee on rugs. So it was so hard to “untrain” that bad behavior. 😅

      Hello! For me, I kept Summer in the room for at least 2 weeks, then I gradually introduced her to the house. Hahah of course! The "play time" in the schedule is the part where you can take them to play outside or wherever your choose ^^ It just means, the room is to help you control his or her environment to set the rules in place.

      Yes! I either leave them in the "play" pen where on the first day, I fill with newspaper or wee pads to prevent mistakes and or do supervised play ^^
      In feeding- this includes controlling their water intake ok? I only do this while potty training for just a week. I hope this helps!

      Hi there! Thank you so much for supporting the channel and I am so sorry to hear about your pup. Unfortunately this is one question that I often get and sadly have to say that I don't think I can help you with because I choose not to dip my toes into those waters.
      As much as I want to recommend one, prefer not to for personal reasons- such as my own selfish biases. Also, as idealistic are my ideas on what a good breeder should be, I know that it really is difficult to find one and every person would have to make compromises as I do. So I somewhat contradict myself as well - it's complicated. I do hope you find the right breeder in your perfect time though.
      Cheers!

    hi poodle mom! i love your videos! i recently got a toy poodle of my own and have been using this method with potty pads. • @poodlemom
      @poodlemom  3 роки тому +2

      Hi Ella! I am happy the method is working out for you. My girls did the same thing later on, and at first. Some things you can try are the following:
      1. Make sure to exercise your pup to tire them out. Usually, chewing is a sign of boredom :)
      2. Discouraging them for chewing on the newspaper by offering toys and playing with them in exchange.
      3. This may be a sign that it's time to take the potty training to the next step which is to move them to doing their business outdoors if you have plans to do so.
      But this is very normal for any puppy. This is mostly because of the teething stage and usually they get destructive when they are bored hence my suggestion for toys or interactive toys/ play etc...:)
      Hope this helps and best of luck!

    Hello first time dogowner here. I find your bideo very helpful (just subscribed!) just got my toy poodle at 2 months. I have a few Qs hope you may help.
    - How long did you potty train yours?
    - How long do you leave the newspaper? Do you clean them up after 1-2 hours?
    - Do you leave the newspaper (w the pee on) in the bathroom if you want them to go there?
    - if the pup is 2 months I don’t think they can follow such schedule right?
    - i have a 2 yo baby. Do you think there is anything I should pay attention when raising my toy poodle?
    Hope you can help!

    • @poodlemom
      @poodlemom  3 роки тому +1

      Hi there! Thank you for watching our videos. I believe this video actually already answered most if not all of your questions. But maybe I wasn't clear enough.
      1. It took me 2-3 days to potty train Summer and just a week for Bailey.
      2. I left the newspaper reeking in pee for 2-3 days. This is the sacrifice. >_<
      3. I left the newspaper with pee in an easy to access area for the puppy. You can't put it in the bathroom yet as by the time they run there they might not be able to make it. It's just in the beginning, these are little sacrifices that will help you in the long run.
      4. Any dog of any cage can and will follow a schedule. The one I shared is just a guide and you have to adjust it according to your puppy's needs.
      5. Make sure to teach your baby to respect and be gentle with your pup. Babies have no control over their strength and more often than not might hurt your puppy.
      Best of luck!

    Hi, im one of your subscriber from Jakarta, Indonesia. Im quite impressed with how you potty traing your dogs. Im a new owner to a 2 months old red toy poodle. I need to ask some things to you:
    1. Should i let him sleep in a dog cage? Should i lock it when he's sleeping? He will cry the whole night while locked inside, what should i do? Should i tend to him or should i ignore him so that he'll get used to sleeping alone?
    2. I love your potty training technique but currently my puppy is not only pee and poop all around the room but he also pee/poop inside his cage? Should i prepare a separate place for him to sleep and a place for him to pee/poop?
    3. Lastly, i tried your newspaper trick but he ended up chewing on the paper? How?

    • @poodlemom
      @poodlemom  3 роки тому

      Hi Ronald! Thank you so much for supporting our little channel! Congratulations on getting your new pup!
      1. Personally I crate trained my pup for the first 6 mos to help with the potty training. Yes they slept in a cage like crate inside my room back then. Of course they will cry the first night during crate training but you just have to learn to ignore them in the start. It gets better over time. In my experience, the girls only cried the first night.
      2. The potty training I do only works when you crate train your dog at the same time. Did you set a schedule for your pup when he goes in and out of the crate. If you just leave your dog in the crate for long periods of time without giving it the chance to potty area explained in the method. Then it will definitely not work. But do note that mistakes will really happen in the start.
      3. LOL! This brings back memories XD Sadly yes, it's also normal that your pup might chew on the newspaper XD For me, that was the sign to remove it and transition him or her to the wee wee pad. XD I basically put the newspaper on top of the pee pad then remove the newspaper and leave the pee pad.

    Hello! I love your channel and find your videos really helpful. We are getting a toy poodle puppy in a few weeks! I plan to try your method here to crate and potty train. But I'm still a bit unsure how much crate time happens in 24 hours. From this video, it looks like you did 4 times/24 hours in the crate. What about between 8am-12pm and 1:30-7pm? Does an 8 week old puppy need crate/sleep time at least once during these time intervals? If they do, can you recommend what other times they should go in the crate to rest? I work from home so I can supervise all day. Thanks!

    • @poodlemom
      @poodlemom  2 роки тому

      Hi @romanjanet! Thank you so much for supporting our little channel. Oh gosh! I should have made a video on that. The crucial first 24 hours. I'll prioritize this video topic. Give me around 1-2 weeks to muster something up as it's quite hard to explain it in words.
      Basically, in the morning, 3-4x in the crate partnered with potty, feeding and play time. At night for the first night it was every 2-3 hours of potty breaks. The next night it was the same then it gradually lessened as I figured out the puppy's body clock. That after peeing around 2-3x his bladder is empty and can last until the morning potty break schedule. I dunno if this makes sense.

Thanks!!!! am getting a toy poodle soon :)

    • @poodlemom
      @poodlemom  3 роки тому +2

      Hi there! To be more specific, yes you need to clean it up right away when they pee in places you don't want them too like for example a rug. The method that I shared is in a confined space, while they can pee "anywhere" it's really not that big of an area and never on carpeted floors or rugs. Also, there are many ways to potty train. This is the method that worked best for me but it's really up to you. The reason why I find this method most effective is because you maximize the use of the puppy/dog's natural instinct to pee in the same area with a specific scent :) Hahah I know it may sound confusing but I hope it helps. >_

    How long can 2 week old puppy hold

      2 weeks old? Omg you have a 2 week old pup? That’s too young! Usually the mother dog takes care of their pee and poo encouragement.
      They pee or poo almost immediately after they drink milk.
