We used to take a plasticStucco roller get somebody to do I half a wall. By the time they do that the timing is just right take a flat trial and run over everything. That's a good way to put an even coat on quickly. The way they skim coat look like it take forever and how you going to tell her this evening. You use a trolling. Andy got a straightedge trial you can use that to make sure you don't have no make sure everything is even. Try it sometime I've been doing it like that for years

@sergiocc17 Yeah but it doesn't matter. For smooth walls to light texture use all purpose then plus 3. Put a knife full on half of the wall in a 3 foot section then smooth it out. Plus 3 goes on last to fill those holes and makes it 5x easier to sand, it goes on thin though. For knockdown use hot mud first.

USG is pretty good, and I can tell you're a pro pro 👊. I'm kinda semi pro I guess...I've found a keeper in the ProForm Light Compound with the carolina blue lid. Straight out of the bucket, it can leave air bubbles, but a cup or 2 of water mixed in 5 gallons changed everything. Spreads like butter, dries as hard as all purpose, sands like the 45 minute mix.

If you're doing wallpaper or painted going over let's say an oil-based at the worst believe it or not use a yellow 100% joint compound and add wood Carpenter's glue to it when whipping it up.. Dont do it by hand. Hopper it, like knock down. Then use I level 5 knife Tape tech or whatever. Less sanding, labor, time and money. Prep maybe more. I use this at least 7-15 times a year.
