Alright, adding this to my pinned comment since people seem to like leaving comments before watching the full video, I know the Golden Guard is 16. As I said in the beginning of this video, I watched these episodes through the advanced screening. At that time, there was no information about the Golden Guard out. Also, I know that there have been some more episode titles floating around, I recorded this before they were released. That’s why I didn’t mentions them in the code section of the video.
I do really like how Eda snaps Luz out of her guilt. Sure, it was indirectly because of Luz that Eda got captured by Belos and lost her magic. However, I get the feeling that it was inevitable that Belos would wear Eda down and capture her regardless. Furthermore, it was also because of Luz that Eda was able to escape the Emperor, reconnect with her sister, and ultimately grow as a person by meeting Luz.
Eda loves Luz as surrogate daughter to she and also Lilith apologizes gift a Eda of curiosly potion to spy the Emperor's Castle and also discovery their plans and also reveal final scene, Belos finally rebuild the portal to unknown motive that tries won to Day of Unity.
Ok, I honestly love The Golden Guard more than I thought I would. And the fact that Luz was about to murder an innocent creature just to make sure Eda wouldn't go back to prison just speaks volumes on how much she cares about her. I also can't say enough how much I love Lilith's and Hooty's Friendship lol.
The fact that they made the Golden Guard so powerful and intimidating yet also silly is great. Having one of the most powerful evil people in the show be a silly teenager was a great choice and I can’t wait to see what becomes of him.
I love Luzs pirate outfit. She looks like a team Aqua grunt Also I love edas pirate outfit too. Eda and Luza pirate outfits remind me of Flapjack and Captain Knuckles Also I love the Hooty and Lilith friendship
At first glance, I thought that was Edric Blight depicted on the "Wanted: A Friend" poster. Interesting that Eda mentions that there are few foods that Luz can eat on the Boiling Isles. I guess Witch Bile doesn't only source magic, it performs digestive functions.
Given the slightly more grounded approach Dana’s taking, its possible that most food contains a type of protein that refills a witch’s magic. It just so happens that this protein is harmful to normal digestion.
I'm starting to wonder if the Golden Guard is Belos' son. The similarity in magic, his high status in the coven in spite of how young he is, and how he apparently got special treatment. I know we're only 1 episode deep, but it definitely feels like they're building up to some kind of reveal with this character.
so we saw her sending the videos to her mom right and they don't send because there's no connection. I have a theory that if Luz gets the portal working again, that's when the videos will send and that's how her mom will find out she wasn't at camp
I think Imma gonna call The Golden Guard, Gabe. Gabe sounds like the type of name a "high school prodigy" would have and is the type of person who is serious but can be a goofball. Also I think this was the first time I've seen Hooty upset.
Hooty was upset at the end of "agony of a witch", when luz comes back, but this was the first time he spoke. He's just so friendly, even if he is kinda annoying. Gabe is a good name for the golden guard. Got that alliteration too.
Such character development were seeing already with Luz making such bold risks in the season's first episode has me curious and nervous of whether or not she is going to make some type of sacrifice later.
If I had a nickel for every time a character got decapitated in an owl house season premiere I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice
Props, Rebecca! Also, parts of the reaction itself that I appreciated: 2:32 - 2:35 I really don't want to come off as a creep here; I just approve fitness solidarity. 7:16 - 7:19.5 We don't even get Eda's response, but that whole IRL gesture combo was Amazing! Can't wait for next week's after my blind viewing.
Right on cue! This was a great reintroduction episode all the way through! Zeno Robinson is gonna be a blast to watch as the Golden Guard, he was great here. Also Lilith and Hooty becoming best friends is soooo precious, though. 😭💚
I was like, "It's that Aleks Le--No! It's Zeno? Hawks/Cyborg himself?!" It was also awesome seeing Steve Blum as Salty. I was so excited watching this episode that my folk asked why I was talking to myself, which the Lulu and Hootsifer adventures didn't help. Edit: "like, 'Is that Aleks Le--No!'..."
Awesome Reaction Rose and also our first Introduction to one of the antagonists in Season 2, the Golden Guard. Lastly, the voice of the Golden Guard is Zeno Robinson who is best known as the voice of Remy in _Big City Greens,_ Goh in _Pokémon Journeys,_ Hawks in _My Hero Academia_ and Alan Albright in _Ben 10: Alien Force/Ben 10: Ultimate Alien._
I also just had a thought about the “flesh magic” aspect of Emperor’s coven magic. What if this flesh magic allowed the Emperor to creat the magic bile sacks attached to all present day witches? It was said that magic was practiced differently by previous generations of witches, so perhaps altering their physical ability to perform magic allowed Emperor Bellos to have better control over the population and install the coven system more easily.
The second season is just beginning and I'm already loving the Golden Guard as an antagonist, especially because we can see parallels to Eda. I mean, he seems like that could have been Eda if she had joined the Emperor's coven: a sassy, kinda chaotic, overconfident teen prodigy.
I like that they didn't completely forgive Lilith, like Eda being like "you can stay here and feel bad about cursing me" (I don't remember what she said exactly) that was a pretty realistic sibling thing to do imo
Good eye on the secret message and the flesh turned steel sword, was looking for the message but couldn't find it, I'm a bit surprised by the Golden Gard's age, with what Dana showed i thought he was more in his early 20, Lilith and Hooty bonding was an interesting development since Hooty usually ...Eda summarizes it good "youre a thorn in my side but you always dig your way to my heart". Also in the new Canadian like me can watch season 1 on Disney+ yay
You know, I think that scrying potion is going to be used by King later in the series. In the promo you can see the pink haze of that thing he’s looking through, so maybe that potion will come back into play. Lilith did say it could show you anything you want.
Why? He seems chill , he must have gotten very tried of doing all the chores. I would also punch someone for stealing my crackers. And he's just likes to show off.

I love that Eda says "Have fun wallowing in self-pity and feeling bad for cursing me" and the moment Eda leaves, Lilith proceeds to do EXACTLY that. It's so perfect. My favorite part of the episode.
Crack theory but I think that the golden guard may not be able to do magic (faulty bile sack?) but he was able to get the respect of the emperors coven through other means until he was able to get his own staff. Maybe he also used glyphs but abandoned them once he outgrew the need for them. For the Luz parallels and foils.
I think it's more likely that they're family. They've been shown to have the same hair colour, and "he can't do magic but he's my son/nephew/whatever" is the kind of attitude I'd expect from Belos.
@@ASmartNameForMe It could be a situation where Belos only sees him as an heir or future ruler, but the Golden Guard sees Belos as closer then they actually are, if that makes sense. either way though it’s interesting

One thing that I noticed was that when Luz, Eda, and King jumped into the thing the monster gave them. King picked up some sort of skull, and it kind of looked like a human skull. I might be wrong and or the skull has nothing to do with the show, but could the skull be proof of humans being in the boiling isles.
It could also be a witch skull. Besides the sack of Bile and pointed ears, things that wouldn't show up on a skull (bile cause its in the chest, ears cause cartilage) it could very easily be so
@@ZekromAndYugiAndDrago123 some witches look very similar to humans other than ears, witches and humans look the same, and it is possible that the skull is a witches skull
Man, I swallowed this premiere a lot better than I thought I would. :) One thing though: they say Eda can't sell human artifacts without the portal, but what about trash slugs?
I know you saw this at the early screening, but the first time we got The Golden Guard's name was on Twitter, specifically, his voice actor, Zeno Robinson, confirmed his role about a week or two ago. And he gave us the name "Golden Guard" in that tweet. Slight side note, but Zeno Robinson is just such a great actor and cool guy. You all should follow him on Twitter if you aren't already! 💖
I wonder if Belos is going to open the portal as a test run at some random point, leaving a signal connection up for long enough for all of Luz' messages to suddenly go through without explanation, unintentionally tipping off both Luz and her mom to the fact that there's a way to get home again.
Wait, I just had a crazy idea. What if Belos’s “Knock knock human” wasn’t to Luz, but to her mother?? Hear me out: We’ve gotten the reveal of a creepy Luz clone, as well as strong hints Belos has finished the portal. Imagine if he somehow created a clone of Luz, to get more intel on the human realm. It could also have something to do with an overarching plot that we just aren’t aware of yet. And hey, I could be wrong. But it’s fun to theorize!!
We also saw back in Enchanting Grom Fright that Luz keeps her phone charged by using the portal to reach an outlet. Presumably whenever Eda/Owlbert goes through to collect objects to sell. So I wonder if it's going to be in danger of dying soon. But we also see in her video that it has what looks like a full charge after over a week. We know that the Isles have their own versions of several electronics, but it's unlikely they're powered the same way.
The part where King discovers all the Emperor's Coven symbols reminds me of the part in Gravity Falls' The Last Mabelcorn where Dipper discovers the shrine to Bill Cipher.
15:03 SAME the first time I watched the episode I guess I missed the part where Lilith said he's a teen prodigy and when I saw ship art of him and Willow I was disturbed
Selkies are shapeshifters that can take humanoid forms. Perhaps Belos demanded that they join covens and seal away their other magic, and they refused, retreating to the sea to escape him. Also, until we get information to the contrary, I am naming the selkidomi Bronagh (the mother) and Saoirse (the calf).
The question marks in the pyramid poster are styled a lot like the question mark on Soos's shirt. Not to mention the lines at the point of the pyramid seemingly suggesting limbs, and we've got a nod to Gravity Falls. IIRC Hirsh wanted GF to not directly tie into other shows, but at the very least it's a nod to the show where several crew of TOH got, shall we say, job security.
I think Luz's Mom might be at a private detective, because that looks like a headless bust in the lower left corner. Possibly a paranormal investigator considering the red string (the hallmark of paranoia or out of the box thinking).
Is it too soon to say Escaping Expulsion is my favorite episode yet? No spoilers but I think it is? Like I love Covention and Grom, but wow that one. Amazing.
I did not at all expect the Lilith/Hooty friendship but now that we've gotten it I'm so in love with it. It honestly makes them both more endearing, especially Hooty since he has someone on his side now

I love how happy and excited you were at the start! Such a feel good moment!
I wonder if Belos is going to open the portal as a test run at some random point, leaving a signal connection up for long enough for all of Luz' messages to suddenly go through without explanation, unintentionally tipping off both Luz and her mom to the fact that there's a way to get home again.
Hey wanna see how hard I can gush about Zeno Robinson (Golden Guard's voice actor)?
[posts paragraphs on paragraphs of why I like him and his voice]
It’s confirmed the golden guard is 16 and I’m already rooting for his redemption
I was so glad I got a screening to the Plaey Event. The Owl House is like my comfort show and these two episodes really warmed my heart. #NoSpoilers
You might want to find another comfort show since apparently this season is gonna get a lot darker.
Just as I finish the episode and when I was wondering when I will get to see your reaction and review :)
*ok*
AHHH!!!! I'm so excited about owl house being back 😭😭
yesss I LOVE UR ANAYLIS AND REVIEWSSS!!!
This was SUCH a solid premier episode and I’m so excited to see how this season unfolds :’)

Aaah I missed looking forward to watching your reviews after new episodes! :D This was great thank you so much for your input and insight!
The part where King discovers all the Emperor's Coven symbols reminds me of the part in Gravity Falls' The Last Mabelcorn where Dipper discovers the shrine to Bill Cipher.
Yay! You are one of my favorite creators! Anyway....SO excited for the second season. I have been ranting about it to my family hard.
They are also unexciting of Hootie I’m glad Lily is his best friend and they have nicknames for each other 🥺🥺
I love this episodes so much they're so amazing :)
LESSSS GOOOO been waiting for long time for season 2.
Can't wait for ep 2!
I wonder if the golden guard have a major role in s2
Anyway luz look really cute in a sailor outfit
"That's rough buddy"
I love teh little detial of King find a skull in pile of Silkegris. Nearly lost it seeing that.
i'm curious to see how the connection between amity and lilith will be like since she was her mentor
15:03 SAME the first time I watched the episode I guess I missed the part where Lilith said he's a teen prodigy and when I saw ship art of him and Willow I was disturbed
Maybe its just me but Rebecca is jacked! Those arms girl!
Hooty And Lilith's relationship is so adorable
