This is an excellent presentation. He has a clear speaking voice and is complemented with good photography. I wish more UA-cam videos were as professional as this one.
Thank you for posting this video. I have the DC07 and have taken good care of the machine. Cleaning the washable filter helps a bit, but I was under the impression that the HEPA filter was for the lifetime of the vacuum. I just vacuumed some of the dirt out of the HEPA with my Miele vac! It made a big difference, so I've ordered 2 new filters. Your video was so helpful and saved me $$$. I was ready to trash the Dyson. For those that are worried about getting to the HEPA filter, I used a screwdriver to pop off the lid. It was easy and went right back on, no problem. I'm way out of warranty anyway!
I've had my DC 07 Animal over 10 years - its wonderful. I have Himalayan (*long* hair cats) and I shed my long hair too. I clean the pre-motor filter once in a while and clean hair off the beater bar when it collects (every few months). Just checked (first time) the post motor filter - yes it's filthy so I'll replace it ($38.75). The internal hose has a few small cracks so I'll replace that too ($6.75). And a new belt to have on hand ($3.75). Cleaned the cyclones. First parts replaced. Champion.
Great video, thanks so much. I have had my DC14 for 6+ years and this time I am replacing the HEPA filter instead of paying a repair shop thanks to you. We have an Akita, and they 'blow' their coat twice a year. This vac is the only one we have had that gets up all the fine soft fuzzy undercoat fur and dander.
Michelle Gabel Thanks for your comments, by changing the filter regularly it helps reduce the 'doggie' smell from the air flow. Also check out our vacuum air freshener product as this does make a great difference: www.espares.co.uk/product/es189693
There is one more thing to do to make a Dyson that is down on suction as good as new, and that is to ***dismantle and clean the cyclone***. My machine was way down on suction. That turned out to be due to huge ammount of dust trapped inside the cyclone that no ammout of shaking or tapping could shift. Cleaning transformed it. Definitely an outdoors job if yours is anything like as bad as mine was. See the 'Dyson DC07 Cyclone Cleaning' video.
Had mine for 9 yrs+, & only just changing the HEPA, & the washable filter is probably on its last legs, so I'm going to re-invest with espare and get a new filter set. The bin is broken at the bottom, I've superglued the bottom release door, catch inside the cyclone broke off a year ago, but that is the age of the machine.
Even locating the second filter was a real challenge, so thanks for this. My DC07 had a sightly different filter housing, with the old filter built in to the lid. Simply ripping it out and putting the new one in place seems to do the trick though - power is about 5 time what it used to be!
just found a dc07 someone down my street put it out on the street for garbage pick up. LOL . It was clogged bad i spent an hour on it and it works fine, going to make the investment with new filters and gasket well worth it
Excellent recycling Ugirl2!. Too many products are thrown away when with a little maintenance and perhaps a few minor parts there useful life can be significantly extended. We have a number of videos to help with refurbishing or maintaining electrical appliances and are adding more all the time. :-)
@JohnnyL8 - All the problems with this vacuum have been repair to BROKEN parts. I had to replace the roller brush at 11 months because all the bristles were worn off. The vacuum was used on indoor/outdoor carpeting and it ground the bristles right off. At 4 years the power switch burnt up. I removed it from its housing and one of the terminals at the connection was burned. I certainly didn't wreck these parts on purpose and they were very expensive to buy. Video showed all being replaced.
Hi Bill, most filters can be removed like an air filter on a car. Manufacturers spend a lot of money adding these on the more expensive cleaners so there must be reasons for it. The choice though in the end is yours. 😊
I've had my DC07 for ten years, and it still works as flawlessly as it did when I purchased it. The HEPA filter is not designed to be changed...although it sounds like some people are finding theirs to be dirty. I looked at mine out of curiosity - and it is fine. What are people vacuuming up??? This filters out fine particulates AFTER the air has already been filtered once. Dirt shouldn't be reaching the HEPA filter.
***** Terrific - I appreciate the reply! I'll keep an eye on it - and if it begins to seem soiled, I will install a replacement. It certainly can't hurt! Thanks again...
+Will Vaszocz We had never thought of this but you are probably right. Most people who have front disc brakes are familiar with the brake dust that gets deposited on the wheels. In the same way the brushes on a motor will gradually wear releasing the carbon particles into the air stream. The only thing after the motor is the Hepa filter which catches it and prevent release back into the room.
@norman8749 - I was thinking the same thing! That lid doesn't even move! This cleaner is the most expensive to maintain that I've ever had! But the job it does cleaning is excellent. And I like the exhaust not having any dirt in it.
Do not wash the foam pre filter. They dissolve after they get wet. I have bought numerous Dyson filters, and everyone of them falls apart as soon as they get wet. Our DC07 has to be getting close to 10yrs by now. Vacuum is good, pre filter, not so much. Just buy new ones. Didn't know about the other filter, Thank you, good video.
There are two types commonly used as shown here: www.espares.co.uk/search?SearchTerm=dc07%20filter The yellow foam filter shows an image of a tap to indicate it is washable in cold water. The purple HEPA filter is not recommended to be washed and does not have the tap image.
I am referring to the Pre Motor filter. The Yellow Foam portion on the two stage Pre Motor filter dissolves every time. It is possible the manufacture is selling lower quality filters in Canada. Yes the Hepa filter is not washable. I'm not trying to discredit your video. Your channel has helped me more than you know. Thank You
The original dyson filter disolved on me too even though i had washed it many times before . I guessed it was just degradation of the foam from age as it was many years old
Faruk Barber The construction of the filter may vary depending on production changes but it should still be removed in this manner. It may be jammed by dust and soaking the filter and cover in warm water may help release it.
@Greenmarine6 filters on any machine should be cleaned replaced periodically. One would certainly have to replace the air filter in a mercedes from time to time.
I'm trying to figure out what is causing mine not to seat well or stay down on the carpet. The last time I used it, I had to hold the front down with my foot for the brush to touch the carpet. What part holds it to the floor when tilted back? Or is it suction that pulls the brush to the floor? Help! p.s. The roller brush works and it has suction (maybe not enough?)
Most cleaners rely on the wright of the motor unit to apply the correct downforce for the cleaner. If you are used to a cylinder cleaner without rotating brush it may appear to be applying less pressure. This is compensated by the action of the brush, and if you apply greater force it may appear to give better results but it is increasing the wear on the carpet and the machine. If you are not used to the machine we would suggest you leave the 'pressure' alone. If it has suddenly reduced check/replace the filters and make sure there is no blockage, see a similar video: ua-cam.com/video/HxegLMZ1ADI/v-deo.html
Can anyone answer? What is the exact diameter of the filter (including the rim)? I am trying to find a 4.5 inch hepa grade filter to fit into a 5 inch exhaust tube as a air filter. Cant seem to find that size.
Hi Tim, we sell a range of HEPA filters but they are designed for specific vacuum models so may not have the sizes but take a look www.espares.co.uk/search/ma716pt1572/vacuum-cleaners/filters/dyson
i am unable to use the detachable hose when vaccuming in hard to reach places. (no suction) Nothing seems to be stuck or caught. The housing on the pre motor area doesnt seem to want to fully click/attach itself. Could that be the reason why i am not getting any suction?
+Drew M When using as an upright as you place the machine in the 'parked' position the motor noise should change as the air from the beater bar is blocked and only air from the hose is directed through the machine. check that the valve is moving correctly and directing the air through the hose.
I disagree with Johnny. The hepa filter may be a lifetime hepa filter but as with all filters, it gets clogged. The meaning behind the lifetime warranty is that it will never allow any dust or pollen to escape, pretty easy claim to make when no air passes through it. You can't clean it so to return the machine to it's original effectiveness, you must replace it.
Bagged vacuums would be a shorter video. Unzip vacuum cover. Pull old bag, pressing you hand against the air inlet so you don't get any dust. Put on a new vacuum bag. Zip the bag cover. WHICH one is HARDER.
Hi George, depending on what content is being covered in the video would determine the length of the video, it would also be down to the customer what they thought was the harder job. Thank you for your comment and hoped this video was helpful.
This is an excellent presentation. He has a clear speaking voice and is complemented with good photography. I wish more UA-cam videos were as professional as this one.
+Christopher Fairs Thanks for the comments Christopher, hope we can help in the future as well.
Great video! Thank you so much for the easy fix---I never would've thought to replace a "lifetime" filter. . .
Thanks for the comments, hope all is well now.

Well done mate....you gave a great explanation...I was struggling with that filter until I saw this!...thank you.
Thanks for the comment, glad we helped.
Thanks so much for your video. Your clear instructions enabled me to access and replace my Dyson filters. Works like new!
Hi MsRotorwings, Very happy to help. :-)
Superb, clear and concise instructions - very helpful well done and thank you !
Thanks for your comments Metropolis223. :-)
you should do voice overs, or act, thanks for the info on the DC07
I run mine without the pre-motor sponge filter. I just got the HEPA filter out and it needs changing. Thanks for your video.

+Tom Fjord Most of the black dust on the HEPA is carbon from the motor brushes

A HEPA filter is also supposed to filter out Barium Sulphate which is being sprayed globally throughout our atmosphere.
Amazing tutorial, very descriptive and clear, Was a lot of help for removing my filters and replacing them
Thanks for the comments. :-)
Very professional and well done. Thanks!
Great video! The air flow explanation was just what I needed!
+William Birmingham Thanks William, hope you sorted the problem.
Tried removing the heppa filter as you instructed , all three clips broke. It’s getting glued back on !
Thanks for a nice demo - now on to break my machine - ah - I mean - Fix my machine...
Good luck Steven we are sure you will repair it. :-)

You are a good video announcer.
+Scott Bennett Thanks for your comments Scott, we hope it was not just the presentation but the content you like as well. :-)
Thanks mate, really helped me out.
Thank you! Lots of help.
Hi. I can't seem to release the filter from its case. You just put your finger in and pulled it with ease.
Faruk Barber The construction of the filter may vary depending on production changes but it should still be removed in this manner. It may be jammed by dust and soaking the filter and cover in warm water may help release it.
All I am finding are UK videos on the DC07 Animal - was it sold in the US? I picked up mine at an auction and need to do some work to it.
@Greenmarine6
filters on any machine should be cleaned replaced periodically. One would certainly have to replace the air filter in a mercedes from time to time.
Excellent!
@Skeptician Great tips!
Be careful you don't suggest replacing too many spare parts there fella. I might just replace the whole thing ;)

Is it ever worth replacing the casing of the pre motor filter? (yellow one) Does that become clogged after a while?
Hi Simon, unless the casing is broken it should not cause any issues.
i am unable to use the detachable hose when vaccuming in hard to reach places. (no suction) Nothing seems to be stuck or caught. The housing on the pre motor area doesnt seem to want to fully click/attach itself. Could that be the reason why i am not getting any suction?

Very good basically. However, difficult to see what your doing because of writing across the video.
Does the DC14 Animal have a pre-motor filter too? I took it apart and there was nothing in there?
The DC14 has a pre motor filter in the top of the bin assembly that is available here: www.espares.co.uk/product/es547810
Thank you for the speedy response, much appreciated.
😊
My yellow filter isn’t getting dirty nor is my other filter I am not getting any suction I don’t know what the problem is
I get hose suction
Hi Amanda, this video should help on suction problems ua-cam.com/video/mwcLnjpn9Tg/v-deo.html&t

I wash my pre-filters every month.
Good tip. 😊
So the motor gets dirty air. And eventually fails.
Hi George, the pre-motor filter will stop any anything getting into the motor, just need to clean the filters regularly and change if required.
You got a bridge in Brooklyn you want to sell me too?
Hi George, if you're interested let me know lol but you got to have faith in these parts.
Open it up after 5 years and tell me it's a lifetime filter.
Mmmmm...just like a cable-tv show.
