    You need to make one of those long tubes for water storage and mount it to the area near your roof top tent. You have the right set up and room for it. Then you can have warm water for a shower hose etc.

    Looks awesome! So are the lights actually still 24V lights or were they 12 and the way the military used them was a 24V wiring? I'm confused.

    Can you give a little more info on your battery setup? Whole thing looks very cool. Also wondering how it handles off road being so wide? Have considered trading mine for a m101.

    is the VanTech Rack, the one that you have now is "Vantech P3000 Universal Pickup 2 72" bar Clamp-On ladder rack System Black"? Can we meet up? I would love to check out your setup in person.

    did you have to drill a hole to the plate that comes with the vantech to bolt it into the trailer?

    • @MacDFitness
      @MacDFitness  5 років тому

      I believe I did. The rack system came with clamps but they don’t work on the trailer bed so I bolted the tower leg directly to the aluminum angle and then the angle to the trailer bed rail (in existing holes)

    where can i get the rack brand and model? why do you need the aluminum angle, the rack did not come with a clamp?

    • @MacDFitness
      @MacDFitness  5 років тому +1

      The rack is from Vantech. It is designed to clamp onto a truck bed rail. But the inside wall of the trailer is flush. So by using the aluminum angle I could drill holes that line up to pre-threaded holes in the trailer wall. And then bolt the rack to the angle.

    Would a roof tent work using the cbi overlander bars with the light bar?

      Yes, kinda. I have the Tepui Ayer II mounted on CBI overland bars in between my sports bar and its the RTT I've found that narrow enough to fit in between it.

    • @MacDFitness

      Onlinemetals.com and it is 6063 T6 Aluminum Angle 2”x3”x.25” and 48” long.

      Ram 2500 was overkill to pull a 2500 lb trailer (maybe 3000 when fully loaded). And while it was a awesome lifted truck (much more impressive looking than the ZR2), it was not the best daily driver. Though I have since traded the ZR2 for the GMC AT4 Carbon Pro because I needed something in between the midsize and 3/4 ton. I got the GMC as I was impressed with the quality of the fit and finish of GM trucks (the ZR2 was my first). The ZR2 was my first truck that did not have cabin parts rattling (I have also had a Titan and Tundra). While more upscale looking on the interior for both my Ram and Jeep Trailhawk, they had way too many cabin noises. Which is why I picked the AT4 over the Ram Rebel. The AT4 will pose it’s own challenges though dealing with the odd shaped carbon bed (discovered after buying since it was in transit and not on the lot when purchased.

      Mac actually I wasn’t speaking to the tow capacity of the truck. More to the fact that your comparison to the dodge was such that you gave up a bigger more capable truck for no real up side. You didn’t gain much in the way of mpg, tow capacity, interior room, load capacity, etc. I’m not sure what you mean by not a good daily driver, people own and drive them all the time. But being someone who does overland and off road, I can honestly say the modifying a 2500 dodge would have been a far better choice to the zr2 or an at4. And I’m a huge gm fan, so I’m not hating on those trucks. But the fact that the 2500 is built heavier, has good solid axles, and the aftermarket support I feel it might have been a bad move to get rid of it. The truth is for overlanding there are a few must haves for me. It needs to be diesel, automatic, and at least 3/4 ton. It all has to do with durability and reliability. I personally use an h1 hummer, and my wife used a 1500 dodge, but we are waiting on the diesel gladiators to come out. She wasn’t sure she wanted her own rig so she bought the 1500, and now knows she needs something more durable and purpose built. Lol I tried talking her into something bigger but I think she a bit scared of a bigger truck off road. Anyway to each their own, if your happy with it then that’s all that matters. I say good wheeling to you, and we will see you out there.

      Mac oh and another thing to consider. Your trailer may only weigh in at 2k but that weight is way harder on a truck off road. I have a m1102 trailer and in certain conditions it’s like pulling a 10k trailer. Things like soft ground, mud, sand all create a ton of rolling resistance. Just something to be aware of bud.

      vinmatrix76 I will admit for camping and storage capacity , I did miss the Ram allot and on many occasions regretted the trade. I had the Decked drawer system along with a ARE Overland topper shell. And your right there was not much of a mpg difference. I averaged 13 mpg in the Ram with 35”s and 15.5 in the ZR2 with 33”s. However, it was not the easiest daily driver in the city (especially parking) for me. At 6’ foot I still needed a step ladder to reach the battery. I bought a second car to take a break from driving the beast daily. But when I drove the ZR2 I was surprised how well it drove on the road without sacrificing off-road capability. It made my wife’s Jeep Grand Cherokee feel like our previous floaty FJ Cruiser. While it was no sports car I actually enjoyed it as a daily driver to the point I decided to sell my Mustang GT. I did not intend on getting the 1500 AT4 and actually went to GMC to purchase a 2500 HD SLT to keep in addition to the ZR2. I really loved the ride quality, payload (3800lbs), and looks of the Chevy 2500 HD Custom, but couldn’t get over the lack of basic convenience features such as lumbar (even manually) and radio controls on the steering wheel. The GMC HD version was more aesthetically pleasing but between the sticker shock and my aversion to chrome, I decided to compromise by trading in the ZR2 (instead of paying for two trucks) for something that had decent payload (enough for my need), was a gorgeous looking truck, but had convenience features way beyond anything I have had before in a truck (hud display, 360 camera, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, etc). Which until I traded my wife’s Jeep for a Volvo V90 and experienced these features, I never knew I wanted. Especially the adaptive cruise control, I don’t know how I survived without it (LOL).

      Mac like I said before, I’m a big gm fan, and to be fair gm’s v8 drivelines are some of the best in the business. But they always compromise on off road performance in their trucks. I will say that the zr2 as a major leap forward for them in that respect, but I can’t say I feel the same about the at4. Owning an h1 has made me extremely knowledgeable about independent suspensions, and if I’m being honest, if wasn’t for the fact that the h1 is built so damn heavy Independent suspension would be a major problem. However the at4 and basically any production independent suspension is build far to light, and is way to susceptible to damage for my liking. I do like an independent suspension, but in an off road setting it has to be very strong. I would be curious to see how that suspension holds up after a year of wheeling, my guess is that you will be replacing parts fairly regular. Again I’m not bashing the truck, for a truck that sees very light off road action I’m betting it’s would be just fine. But if you plan to get way out there Im not sure I could trust it.
      Oh btw they make small platforms and what are called over hood creepers for dealing with tall vehicles. I’m about 6’1” and I need those things to work on almost any truck today. Especially if you need to get to the back of the engine.
