056 The best ADDITION for my workbench
- Hello my friends!
It's been almost 3 months since my last workshop project. I was really busy with laying new tongue and groove floor in the main workshop. Some realations are on my instagram profile.
When i brought back my workbench i decided to set it in new place, away from the wall.
The old workbench base was very shaky (and i hate to clean under it) so i made new solid base with a place for 10 drawers. Today i'm gonna build them so stay with me :)
It will be a classic design. As the material i'm gonna use the same pine boards as on the floor.
The whole project is very long so i decided to ulopad two parts.
Second part soon :)
I hope you will like it!
Cheers!
BTW. I don't take orders and usually i don't sell my planes.
The most sure way to get some of them is take a part in giveaways for my supporters.

Stavros, I really love your channel my friend! You are a absolute master!! I should have bought one of the strops you made.... I. Steal want to buy your first hamdplane when you design and build it.
God Bless Chad Williams
It’s sheer pleasure to watch you work, Stavros! And it’s so good to have you making videos again. We’ve missed you!
Thank you Russ!
Sweetness! looking fantastic!
Thanks James :)
I bet you like the blue color too James!
Bravissimo! Once again, truly outstanding workmanship!
That final scene when you pushed in each perfectly fitted drawer was oh so satisfying. Great work, can't wait for the next part! 😁
Thanks a lot Paul :)
Thank you, all the best for you!
Dang Stavros. Building great joinery with great joinery planes that you built yourself, and putting it all into a great joiner's bench. NICE.
Well done, Sir. Very. Well. Done. Looking forward to part 2!
Thanks a lot Alan!
This has a hidden gem, an excellent tutorial on how to make blind dovetails!
Thank you for this video and all your other great videos!
Dude blew my mind when he used the Olfa knife like that. I'd never seen that before!
Gosh darn it, your shop is clean!
Very nice Stavros
Love your content, no matter what you do
Nice seeing your planes at work, they are amazing.
I smile with every finger snap, love it.
NIce to see you using your planes rather than just making them!!
Superb, fine woodworking. Love and respect for your work.
Thank you Alberto, Cheers!
Such precision work that you do!
You’re amazing! I love watching all your videos. I’m going to go back and rewatch them all, all over again!
Thank you do much Donna :)
Amazing carpentry skills. Hand-held carpentry without a single electric machine is a unique art.
Really fine looking work. As you slid the last one into place I yelled STOP at my phone.🤣🤣. I guess a man that can produce such fine work can figure out how to get the boxes back out. 😉
Thanks Daniel, i know one magic trick to pull them back 😁
I have learned so much from this guys work, I make a point of letting all the ads run till the end!
Thanks a lot Alex! I appereciate it :)
Simultaneously jealous of and inspired by the accuracy of those dovetails. I've practiced on pine and failed miserably, but it's good to know that the sky is the limit if you just use the right techniques :)
Thanks! Just keep trying, i keep my fingers crossed 👍
It's a very interesting project! Nice seeing you again)
To watch you make all of these tools and then see them used as planned is pretty incredible. Nicely done!
Always a pleasure to watch you transform wood.
I never get tired of watching a well fit , hand cut dovetail come together. Nice work.
18:50 Mind blown.
Very nice! Insane amounts of work!
Amazing hand planes also!
Terrific video Stavros, thank you. Regards Jim UK.
Thanks Jim
Dziękuję!
What a great talent , after working on cars all day , it’s a beautiful thing to watch an artisan at work with old tongue and groove and turn it what can only described as beautiful draws 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks John!
Always welcome a new video Stavros and a great one at that. Your hand crafted tools are amazing to see in action after watching you build most of them through the years. Just a pleasure to watch! Thanks
Thank you Chuck!
My goodness, what an incredible amount of work!
WOW 🤩
Thank you!
Superbe travail merci beaucoup pour la vidéo 📹
Excellent! It was a pleasure to watch the work (on one of 10 drawers 😁). Remindet me when I did my tool cabinet. It also includes two little drawers that I piston fitted to the cabinet. Unfortunately I did this in the winter month and every summer the drawers got stucked completely so I finally took some material off. Be aware!
Yeees! Gakos is back!
Although I really like the planemaking video, sometimes is nice to give some space for other projects! Your workbench is looking fantastic paired with the flooring job
Thanks Luiz :)
Beautiful job!👍
Always look forward to your videos man. Always.
Thanks Juan!
Fantastic work. Never saw stock tilted for dove tails….brilliant.
Thank You
You're welcome ;)
Well done! Very nice to see all your fine tools being put to use on this project. While pine is scorned by many, I find it a wonderful challenge to work with.
Thanks Jeff! Yup, you got right :)
That was absolutely amazing. Thank you very much.👴🏻🇦🇺
Thanks Mark!
I thought your floor looked different, great job, looks great. I like the use of a knife to trim the edges of you blind dovetails, that is a neat trick.
Thanks Henry 👍
Wonderful work
Awesome work!! It's nice to see you really using your amazing tools on a project (versus just the build of the tool itself. But don't get me wrong - I live for those too!).
Angling the board so you could push the saw straight through the dovetail cuts was very unique as well.
Thanks a lot Scott :) i appereciate that you are still here!
Que cantidad de trabajo! Pero que satisfactorio una vez terminado... Para futuras generaciones
nice job!!
this pine is very hard to work with. because of the long grain! top!!
Thanks👍
Thank you!
Really nice work and a great video. So satisfying at the end seeing all the drawers slide into place - but stressful thinking of how you'll be able to pull them back out without the handles! Great work as ever Stavros, thanks for uploading.
Thanks Patrick! Don't worry, all the fronts have small hole in the middle. I made it with an awl, now i can put there an ordinary screw and pull them back 👍
@@StavrosGakos Phew, panic over! 😂
Beautiful work, dude! The drawers turned out looking sweet! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thank you!
Thanks Stavros, looks great ... nearly there :D
👍👍👍
What a pleasant teach! Thanks
Kawał dobrej roboty! Poważnie.
Dzięki!
Beautiful job!!!
Great video. Interesting to see the different planes in use, and the close up on the dovetail work was very helpful, seeing out other people do it. Thanks for this.
Thank you!
good job!
Merci :)
Beautiful!
Beautiful work man, a pleasure to watch you work.
Thank you
O! Wreszcie trafiłem na prawdziwego Stolarza na UA-cam. Nie pier***isz się w tańcu. Leci sub!
Haha dzięki!
You should do a video on how to make a chalkboard eraser😀, great work, keep it up!
To się tak przyjemnie ogląda! :) Dzięki za film!
Dzięki!
Perfect ! 👍
18:53
Ha!
Why not ?
Brilliant :-)
Beautiful work it would be a great project if you built a traditional English jointer plane
Awesome as usual!
Love your work. Outstanding video, great dovetails.
Hey Berl, thanks :)
Very nice work!
Thank you Rane!
We have missed you Stavros :) The bench upgrades are nice...... my future bench will be of similar design; I too hate cleaning under it and loosing things under it :P The floor looks good too lad, I would be worried about grip tho with a wooden floor....... I might slide around during planing operations :P
Nice work lad, its good to see you back :)
Thanks! That's why i screw it to the floor :)
Bravo!
I have to build a set of drawers for a piece I’m refinishing. The old drawers were so brittle they kept splitting. Anyway, I liked your idea of the sliding dovetail in the back of the drawers. Great video, nice floors, beautiful drawers.
Thanks! Good luck with your project :)
A real masterclass on hidden dovetails, and how to clean up after yourself.... Bravo
Thanks Shawn!
They look great and you did a masterful job making them!!
Enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up
Thanks a lot!
@@StavrosGakos You are very welcome and keep up the great work!!! Looking forward to your next project!!
Thank you!!
It turned out very nice. Sliding dowetail went hard because a tennon was longer than the depth of the channel
Thanks!
Ah! Now I get it.
Great video, and very well edited too.
Keep 'er lit Bro!
Thanks Ivan!
This was a great lesson for me in building drawer boxes from start to finish. When you used the utility knife, were you cutting the fibers that the saw did not cut? This was very therapeutic. Thank you.
Yup, you thake it right 👍 thanks!
Excellent!
One can see the process of planes change for different work place👍
What is the origin of workbench top?
Such a nice DIY floor - worth to sweep and show 😉
Thanks! I build that workbench top in my previous 5m2 workshop :) you can find posts about it on my Instagram profile 👍 Cheers!
Nice
I read the title as "The best Addiction for my work bench".
Nice to see a new video here with all these gorgeous shavings ;)
May I ask why you inserted the rear side of the drawers so far from the tip of the sides ?
Thanks! That offset will hold the drawers in horizontal position when they will be pulled out. You will see it on the next part 🤟 Cheers!
Those are looking nice. Did you make a video for making the base for the bench?
Thanks! No, i don't have it, sorry
It is awesome to see the planes you’ve made put to use on a project! Adds context. How long to build each drawer after rough dimensioning the lumber?
Thanks Brian! I think it took about 60 minutes from dimensioned lumber to glued drawer per each 🤟
@@StavrosGakos That really puts it in perspective…. Thank you. I’ve always thought that having the right hand tools would be as quick and definitely quieter and cleaner than the big machines. Gotta up my game!
I'm new to handwork. Till now, if I couldn't set up a machine things wouldn't get done. This video is great inspiration! What was the progression of the three planes you used to flatten and square the stock? Was one the shooting plane you made in another video?
Thanks, first was jack plane, second my shooting board plane, and the last my smoothing plane. Jack plane have slight round on the cutting edge, shooting plane have straight cutting edge without rounded corners (leave lines on the surface), smoothing plane have straight edge with rounded corners - remove the lines after shooting plane.
I think you need more planes.
(sklepowa nazwa)
To mój ulubiony kolor, a ten Twój wygląda zabójczo piękne...
Pozdrawiam
Just curious, how many hours (more or less) it took you from laying out dimensions, through cutting, planing and all that jazz until finished drawers? Thanks
Hej, pewnie about 60 minutes na szufladę 😉
With modern PU glues, [NOT pva.] you can abandon dovetails, and just butt joint and glue.
I have!
[I hope you have a wood stove to put all those offcuts and shavings to good use. 😊]
If i want to make some dovetails i just make them and i don't look for other joints. Cheers
ciekawe jak teraz je wysuniesz :D
Steps for the kids to reach the work bench? :)
Класс
👏👏
On the dove tail plane, What is the purpose of the front metal piece is it a rake/follower?
Hey, it is the nicker. It reduce tearout on crossgrain
@@StavrosGakos thanks, great work 👍👍
Stavros do you recycle or reuse the shavings you create ?
Hey John, no i throw them away.
HI, what are those 3 planers you used during the part at 4:00 minutes where you are smoothing the drawers? Thank you.
Hey, it was my Sorby jack plane, my shooting plane, and my double wedge smoothing plane
Shooting plane : ua-cam.com/video/FrP-01zuEO0/v-deo.html
Smoothing plane : ua-cam.com/video/ERJmHbfq9b4/v-deo.html
How will you open them? :D
Haha you will see in the next video ;)
So you made all those handplanes just to build a set of drawers?
Yes, and after that i'm gonna burn them.
And then he never got the drawers open again because he spaced on attaching the handles before closing them >.
What about the drawer bottoms?
Hey, all is in the description
Beautiful!
