I removed all the outer "bark" using just a box cutter knife and send those away in the weekly trash first. Over a few weeks. Then once the tree is clean i cut it down using your reciprocating blade method. Thanks for sharing.
0:22 - Great vid! But I see you haven't been responding to the comments. For those curious.. Going to say that's Harbor Freight's BAUER 10 Amp Variable Speed Corded Reciprocating Saw. $54. HF doesn't carry the Diablo wood pruning blades - that's HD at $13. $67 project vs $500 for a tree service to remove my stunted queen palm. Gotta love YT. 💪
Good video, I have a dying queen palm in my backyard next to my pool I need to cut down, and I just assumed I would need a chainsaw to do it. I already have a Sawzall, so all I have to do is buy some blades and drink some coffee. They also make a more aggressive 12" Diablo blade with only 3 TPI.
Your right John!! I tried using a chainsaw and like you said, it gummed up the blades and chainsaw burnt on me. Tried the blades and WOW!! palm tree now gone. Thanks...🙂
THANK YOU! I’ve actually cut down all these disgusting “trees” in my yard here in Florida but, I still have to break them down, especially the “asparagus tops” so I can take them to the dump. I knew that I was over using the chain saw. Just wait till I get a pruning blade for my reciprocating saw! Thank you so much!
Perfect! Just what I needed to see. I have some small palms too close to the house that keep coming back every time I top them off and cut off the fronds.
Heck yeah John you can hang out with us on the East Coast down here in the country lol.. Well done brotha you got it done LOL. Now hit us with that back to back and give us the TD update haha.. Nice tip on the Sawzall blade 👍👍
Hey John, You need to warn people about the pain after using the sawzall for hours. I tried your method, and it was a nightmare cutting my palm tree here in Florida using a sawzall by Dewalt and 9" blade for branches. Using a sawzall will hurt your hands, wrist and forearm for at least 8 hours. Sure you'll get the job kinda done, but it'll cost you a night of pain. Rent a 20" chain saw from Home Depot and be done.
Did you kill the stump? If so how? I hear they’re almost impossible to kill. I have a new one growing and have been trying to kill it off, but it keeps growing back 😫
Actually my.palm fell down a mini hurricane spread all over the Garden even though a lantern can't stop the tree just falling in Greece so my concern is the USA tree is easy to cut like my Greek Palm my palm has a double diameter and the high is almost 12 feet what kind of chainsaw I need ?
Need an update for your web store: "Growing Your Greens t-shirt (NAVY) 100% ORGANIC COTTON (size L)" is out of stock, and the entire "Compassion Tee's" web site appears to have been neglected.
The new rule the cities are following is, plant trees 10ft min from any part of house and from sidewalks. Plus stay away from sewer, drains and plumbing. They are also implementing plastic root guards to divert roots away. Huge problem everywhere Palm trees and trees in general planted way too close to the house and way too close to sidewalks. You saved a ton of $$$ cutting this down.
The proper name of your tool is a “reciprocating saw.” Sawzall is a brand name, even though people use the brand like Kleenex to refer to all brands of tissues.
Hy john. Using a MS200 or any arborist chainsaw in a lapse of 5/10min the palm tree would be down. Just a directional cut at the base. Dont even need a car to pull the palm tree over.
Wish I had a MS200 (high end chainsaw!) They are $1500 refurbished and maybe more new? I was able to rent "cheap chainsaws" at local rental shops for around $100 but they warned against using it for a palm, as they told me many people broke the saws! So I bought the harbor freight saw for $60 to use for this tree job + some blades, since this was a "one time tree drop". Next time will call you to help with your high end saw! That would have been easier.
So is it safe to cut a big palm down with one good cut. I'm afraid it will cause damage when it hits the ground like dead weight. It grew wild between the sidewalk and the curb. It's very tall and robust now, and I would like to cut it down.
John, what are you doing up that high, it isn't safe, especially with all that dangerous equipment. Call the pros man, hopefully no one trys cutting a tree now and takes down the power lines.
@@How_Lay but I don't wanna miss any up coming videos . And someone might just have a brilliant idea to chop his palm 🌴 tree down because he has cordless saw and takes the power lines down or better yet through his house and into the living room.
WOW, this tip is gold. Always hated cutting down palms with my chainsaw

Glad I watched this before seeing which one of my friends has a chainsaw I can borrow.
I used this method with the red diablo pruning blade + the exact bauer HF sawzall, it went by SUPER easy. THANK YOU!
I didn’t think you could 😊teach me something about taking down trees, I was wrong, thanks for sharing! ❤

Thanks. Excellent video. Burned a chainsaw. Bought an alectric saw just like in your video.

Awesome! We have 6 cocos palms need gone, sound easy from video 😁
Great instruction video! How about a dead palm tree? Is Sawzall still a good tool?
I want to see you dig up the roots
You just take the saw blade vertically upside down and cut around the base and pop it out
@@Youngstomata Sounds easy enough but I want to see it.
@@Anythingforfreedom I’m surprised he didn’t call a tree guy. They’d remove it for free to upsell to someone else to plant
@@Youngstomata that entirely depends on the type of tree. Some palms are re-sellable, most are disposable and not worth a re-sell.
I would very much appreciate if you let me know the specific model of the Bauer Pruning Saw which you recommend for palms.
This is awesome thank you !!
That is quite amazing, who knew? 🌿 Why all of a sudden do you want to get rid of your palms? Are they getting too big and taking over?
That palm is the worst. It grows so fast. Wait till it gets many stories high is too late.

That is such a low tree at the base. Good ideal use of a tool. Commiserating
It's amazing where palms can pop up! Kinda like weeds. BTW are you getting younger? Sure looks like it!
Best tip ever thank you sir
I love my reciprocal saw and pruning is all I use it for…

Wow that's good to know!
Hi John. I am trying to cut a downed palm tree in half but my saws all keeps binding up. I have pruning blades.
Hay John, I have some trees that need trimming and a couple that can be dropped if you wanna make a video there's tons of leaves on the ground too.
Did you kill the stump? If so how? I hear they’re almost impossible to kill. I have a new one growing and have been trying to kill it off, but it keeps growing back 😫
What if you killed it and then let it dry out b4 taking it out, how long you think to dry? most of the weight is water right?
What's the power on the sawsaw u using?

Milwaukee made their name on their sawzall.

Any one know a plant can repel thrips?
Why?
It’s too bad it couldn’t safely be removed by a tree company being that close, because that tree would be worth a lot.
Wow. Thanks. How do I contact?
Did you save the heart to eat?
Die-ablo 🤣🤣🤣
Find any scorpions 🦂
Why tho? It looked good against your house.
