    I have been really intimidated by the idea of tuning my suspension. The way you break it down at least gives me confidence to a) give myself a baseline setup thats not just "set it all in the middle" and b) what to feel for when making adjustments. Thank you so much for passing along the knowledge. I want to come back to the school sometime to talk setup and improve my driving.
    It might be a good idea to put all of these setup vids in a playlist.

    I used to compete in 1/10 Rc drifting in Europe… seeing you talk and explain 1/1 car setup is so so cool when i can compare that to my skills in Rc, Running Plastic tires for example (by rule) creates different challenges, things like hp wars were non existent because of tire damage rules, for example if u overpowered your car the tires would literally melt and increase grip which was not allowed (would result in dq) swaping shhocks and shock oils and springs was waaaaaaay easier and faster than on 1/1 and the tuning options were endless… even tho i wish i had more setup knowledge back then beacuse thousands of different setings was overwhelming at times… Anyways super interesting videos! Lets get that championship!

    Wow....just wow. Having someone as skilled and talented as you helping us understand these huge concepts is sick. Thank you for doing this because its nice to have some sort of path to guide you and understand whats going on when it comes to adding grip to a drift car. Some of us only have simulators and video games since the logistics arent there. And we dont get the true 'seat time' but at least with this information, we can learn to practice and understand grip overall.

    This video finally helped me understand a lot of fundamental principles of chassis tuning. Stuff like how sway bars add grip to the rear, or what damper adjustments actually do. It finally all clicked in my head. You have an amazing way of teaching really complex things. Sat through the whole 40min video like it was nothing. Also, I finally understand why I'm having to initiate so fast and so late with my car! I have too much grip at the front and the car instantly wants to turn in. A few times I've had really close calls almost crashing on the infield because of this. This video is GOLD!

    Awesome video, I’ve tended to have the same theory’s and beliefs as you, I was so happy to see the spares in the front video, when I first started looking into the front end, I felt grip was important, then after watching stewy do his maniac driving, I watched the front doing a lot of sliding, and started to understand the pivot point, and it’s importance. A car that pivots around the front end is just a weird feel, and it takes so much more room to make transitions and god forbid you get backwards, you scrub that speed really fast, and that’s about the best scenario you can hope for.

  • @StuKellyMotorsports
    @StuKellyMotorsports 3 роки тому +3

    Can you do a video explaining how differential setups change how a car drives, i.e, welded, 1.5way, 2 way, lsd, torsen . What the pros use and why? How to decide what you might need?
    I drove a high powered 1.5way car and could not figure out how to transition, literally broke my brain.
    I absolutely love these vids, have taken a ton of notes from them!

  • @joshmessinger113
    @joshmessinger113 Рік тому

    This video is super helpful and it reinforces a lot of my understanding of setup. One thing I would say though is that this is the perfect rubric to follow for cars above 250hp, lower than that and you have to start resorting to some unconventional setup techniques lol. Like when you went out with your Corolla and had to air up to like 60psi to compensate for the lack of power. It becomes a balance of trying to take out grip while still maintaining enough control to link corners ✌️

    Thanks for doing these videos man. Keep it up we love this stuff. Drifting has been such a dark art for all these years so it's great for this information to make it out there.
    I drift with no sway bars at the moment. I can't fit a front bar with the LS in the way and I removed the rear bar chasing more grip in Pro-Am class trying to pull every last bit of grip from a 235 radial, suspension full soft, 15psi tyres and a healthy amount of toe in.

    I think the "donut emergency tire" video is so misunderstood, amount of people that use that pic of that car at PARC as an argument against front grip is crazy.. I like to run a small (225) grippy front tire and play with pressure & rebound to get the slip I want. What lots of people forget, is that your front setup is also your "bail button" when drivers in front of you fuck up. If you dial out all front grip and you do a festival event with tons of driving, you gotta bail at least once a day, and its sketch af when there's no front grip.
