  • Hey everyone! Here's the next episode of Brewster's Millions Of Rants with The 'Eye Murder' Workout. I've had a number of requests to feature more picking exercises, along with more arpeggio-based material, in addition to requests asking for some of my original music/ideas, including a few asking for some music from my upcoming instrumental music project 'Nilbog.' So, I'm attempting to hit all of those requests in one episode - which is exactly what you'll find hiding in this lesson - so let's dive in!
The workout featured in this episode comes from my new album and is called 'Eye Murder' - which refers to the fact that a lot of Italian horror films seem to focus on doing things to the eyes. The motif featured in this song is actually a variation of something I wrote over twenty years ago, and it eventually found its way reworked and hiding in this song.
As you'll find with the motif behind this song, this is actually a deceptively challenging picking/fretting workout as the song unfolds, as we're basically transferring the arpeggio-based motif along the guitar neck using minor third intervals (Gm-Em-Dbm-Bbm). This position-shifting idea creates a number of challenges, not to mention the tricky intervallic picking pattern that leaps around the strings as it unfolds. It's actually a great workout hiding in one of my new songs!
Needless to say, if you've asked for more exercises/workouts, or asked for some of my original music/material, would like to boost your picking/fretting technique and ability, or maybe you're just curious what all the fuss is about - this lesson is totally for you! Give this episode a view, leave some comments/feedback, and please subscribe to Late Night Lessons - THANK YOU!

It's just beautiful in a spooky way. Dreamy is another way to say it. Love the clean tone, and moving in minor thirds. Thanks so much.

    Cool riff!
It creates tension as it descends and ascends the fretboard.
    I get tubular bell's vibes.

Hey! I would suggest starting with their first album which is called 'Cherry Five.'
That one was recorded before they were called Goblin and it's really great.
Also, check out their album 'Roller' for more of their non-soundtrack music.
From there, feel free to venture into their soundtracks and explore.
      Good luck and have fun!

The picking is not obvious. I see you are picking twice down the first time, but I have a hard time finishing the second half with a pick up like you do. I guess I naturally pick "inside" the strings but I see you tend to pick "outside" if I'm not mistaken.
