SVT Lightning Low Fuel Pressure Fix -- Common Failure

  • In this video, I find a burst fuel line inside my fuel tank. This burst line causes my fuel system to lose pressure under load. This is a very dangerous condition for your engine and if left unfixed could result in catastrophic engine damage. Failures like this are common on lightnings because they have a plastic "Y" fitting in the fuel tank that is prone to cracking and failing. I had already swapped out the plastic "Y" for a stainless one but found that a piece of hose was cracked and leaking fuel pressure. Hopefully you don't need to fix this on your truck and if you do, it doesn't cost you an engine in the process!

    This video helps a lot since my truck is leaning out under boost, how do you check the resistor to make sure it works?

      @605BOLT  Рік тому +1

      Just unhook it and test the resistance across it. I don't recall the exact value it should be but I'm sure it's on the forums. I don't think the resistor is used when at full throttle. I think if the resistor is failing it causes problems at idle but I'm not positive. Never had an issue with mine yet. Knock on wood! I filmed this video in the summer and don't recall what resistance it needs.

      @@svtshammy have you swapped to the stainless y in this video? I would be thinking pumps or something like what happened to me in this video. Maybe just a bigger crack in the line or something.

    It would’ve been much easier to lift up the bed instead of dropping the tank, but this works also.

    • @605BOLT
      @605BOLT  Рік тому

      Eh. This was pretty easy with a lift. I have a drop in bed liner so i would have needed to take out the bed liner, the tie down anchors, the bed bolts (which to my knowledge have never been removed) and then lifted the bed off without scratching anything plus wiring. This was the right choice for me this time. Maybe some other time I will take the bed off but this was very easy.

      @@605BOLT True that on scratching stuff. I pulled the bed off my Lightning to install the Y adapter and I did scratch the paint a little between the bed and cab. If I did it again I would use foam or rags between the cab and bed gap to avoid the scratches when pulling up and reinstalling with a hoist.

    Hello, Does a crack in the hose or y fitting cause a p0171 and p0174 code?

    • @605BOLT
      @605BOLT  Рік тому

      Anything is possible but I would say more likely you have a vacuum leak. These trucks have a hose behind the intake manifold that is known to crack and cause a lean code. This specific problem did not trigger a check engine light for me. But I also didn't let it go for months either. Saw it go lean like one time and parked it until I could get it fixed.

    How the heck did you avoid melting a piston with your AFR topping out over 15.0 and your boost past 10 psi ??

    • @605BOLT

      By not staying in it.

    • @605BOLT
      @605BOLT  Рік тому +1

      It doesn't instantly melt a piston. But if you stay wot in those conditions for 15 seconds over a pull you're gonna break something. This is E85 too. The Lord's fuel.
