    Besides a great video overall, I love the part where he said “chickens aren’t parrots, they don’t curl their feet” I had no idea! Excellent info. And yes maybe I should’ve known this but I didn’t

      They do bend their toes a little bit, but they are not meant to curl their toes like some other birds do 😊

    I have a great idea. Take a vacation to the Great Smoky Mountains in TN. When you are getting close, stop by my new farm for some incredible country cookin. Your choice, pot roast, country fried steak with gravy, or baked ham, all with slow cooked pintos and homemade mashed potatoes with gravy. Oh, and dont forget to bring a coup with you to sell me, then head off into the mountains. 😁

    Great video ! And very kind of Ricardo to let people know they can get their wood cut for them if they don't have the tools needed.
    I have a question, if you don't mind my asking. What is an appropriate height on roost bars for large/ heavy breed chickens ? There's so much conflicting information out there & I'm brand new to chickens so I don't have any experience to fall back on.
    Almost done building my coop & this would really help me out. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge with us !

    Hey Ricardo! Question for you! My hubby built another coop and I feel like both of our coops the nesting bars are too high! Do you have a video on how to make steps? My hubby is burnt out of building and I wanna get this done because otherwise I’ll have to wait til it cools down I’m in Southern Az it’s hot! I have a step ladder inside both of my coops but the chickens are flying up to the bars and I’ve noticed a couple have a hard time getting up and down! I feel bad! Ty

    • @BockBockBouquet
      @BockBockBouquet  Рік тому +1

      if its 4x4 not counting the nesting boxes, you could fit 7-8 with two roost bars in your coop running the length of the 4 feet.

    I have a question. I’m going to down size my flock by three chickens. Is it a bad idea to include my alpha chicken in those I’m giving away or will it cause Mayham in the rest of the flock?

    • @BockBockBouquet
      @BockBockBouquet  2 роки тому +1

      Well it could possibly, if you remove the alpha hen there will need to be another alpha so depending on your specific flock it could be okay or there could be mayhem. I understand what you’re talking about perfectly because that would also be our situation. We always worry if anything happened to our head hen (well because we love her) but also because our second hen in charge would rule with an iron fist 😂 she’s a bossy lady and our current hen is a fair and just leader. Our second head hen would be a tyrant 😂

    I was told that the roost bar's are supposed to be different heights do to the pecking order. Does it really matter or is it preference?

    • @BockBockBouquet
      @BockBockBouquet  2 роки тому +4

      Oh we specifically do them all at the same height to minimize the pecking order, this way they don’t all want to be higher, everyone is equal.

    I'm in South Alabama and I built my own chicken coop. Now my question is, how do I get into something like you do, by building and selling chicken coops? I realized while building our coop, that I enjoyed every minute during that time. Is there a real large interest in people buying custom made chicken coops? Again, how would I go about finding that out or tapping into that industry? Thanks again.

    • @BockBockBouquet
      @BockBockBouquet  2 роки тому +3

      Hi, I started by posting a couple of coops I built to sell on craigslist and Facebook Marketplace. They sold, and then other people asked if it was still available, so I told them it was gone, but could build another one from scratch. I also use our Instagram page to market my custom coops. Hope this was of any help and good luck on the adventure. I am sure there is a good market for chickens coops in your area.

    But shouldn't that 2x2 be routered? But of course if it's a 3X3 not necessary... I had heard a 3X3 is better because then when they're squatting at night they are keeping their feet completely warm

    • @BockBockBouquet
      @BockBockBouquet  2 роки тому

      The 2x2 came with finished rounded edges from the hardware store. 2 inches is plenty wide their feet is flat and completely covered. Chickens have little feet. 3 inches will work but not necessary

    I would recommend cutting the boards yourself and not relying on anyone from Lowes. Last time I had someoen cut a board for me they obviously had no idea what the hell they were doing and all my boards were a half inch to an inch off. Their excuse was because of the blade width. What nonsense

    • @BockBockBouquet
      @BockBockBouquet  2 роки тому

      Haha agreed. I just was just saying if people don’t own a saw and are unable to cut their own wood at home, they could have free cuts at the store. But most of the time they are off 1/8 or 1/4 inch

    To me that chickens in the wild roost in trees. No 2x2
