North Carolina’s Madison County School District has put an AR-15 in a safe in every school in the county so the guns can be accessed for classroom defense in case of attack.
Madison County Sheriff Buddy Harwood pushed for the AR-15s following the attack, pointing out that he did not want evil people to be able to enter the school and hole up in a classroom with officers powerless to act.
Harwood said, “Hopefully, we’ll never need it, but I want my guys to be as prepared as prepared can be.”
“We were able to put an AR-15 rifle and safe in all of our schools in the county. We’ve also got breaching tools to go into those safes. We’ve got extra magazines with ammo in those safes,” Harwood explained.
“In the event we have someone barricaded in a door, we won’t have to wait on the fire department. We’ll have those tools to be able to breach that door if needed. I do not want to have to run back out to the car to grab an AR, because that’s time lost.”

Did you know? Until the 90's, here in Brazil, murder rates were very similar to those in US, if not smaller. We always loved guns; everybody had one or more. We could buy them in supermarkets Walmart like. Since leftists took the power in 94, they started to campaign and to pass laws banning guns. Brazilian people gave their guns away in good will, thinking this would make society less violent. We soon started to develop a culture of "no reaction". Needless to say, criminals didn't hand over their weapons. Gangs of drug lords flourished and murder rates skyrocketed. The average citizens saw themselves locked behind their windows bars while the thugs roamed free in the streets. Even police officers had their access to guns, to calibers and even to related accessories restricted (leftists are never satisfied).
After, 2018, when Conservatism rose from the ashes and took over the country, and after we elected Captain Bolsonaro and a conservative base in Congress, brazilian people started to rearm themselves, murder rates are plummeting every year. Take us as an example, spread our story, don't let those jacobins take your guns, no matter why.
May God bless America. Best regards from Brazil.

"Oh no, we can't have guns in schools. Just call the police." That makes as much sense as removing fire extinguishers from schools and saying, " Just call the fire Department." When seconds count, both police and the fire Department are minutes away!
That is probably the best point I’ve heard in quite a long time, there is a reason to have fire extinguishers. Well done sir.
But but but but but....does not compute...but but but but
Uvalde should have ended that argument
After Uvalde, calling the police is no longer a valid argument.
To add on, the police may take hours to search the building due to protocol having their hands tied so often. They're the people you talk to AFTER the situation goes down.
Finally a school district that gets it. They've accomplished step 1. Here is step 2: Remove the 'firearms not allowed' signs. Step 3: Replace those signs with signs that say 'We are better armed than you. Turn around. Walk away. Get help.'
As long as law enforcement has the courage to use that gun. They had AR15s in Uvalde.
Those signs are so stupid, they need to remove that everywhere except govt building
Good point, but that last part you said was CRINGE lol
@@Anon54387 they were told to stand down and now they are probably going to get sued
Nice. 👌
I always remember in high school me and my friends always had a plan to try to link up with one of the history teachers… he was an ex marine, we all know he had a firearm within his reach at all times. We all bet he had at least a “truck gun”. One of my favorite teachers, one of the most genuine, no bullshit, funny, guy. I hope he is well.
I know this comment is old, sorry. But I had the same thing when I was in HS. Although I know exactly what my teacher who was a Marine had and another teacher who was a Army Ranger had with them everyday. Both had AR pistols chambered in .300blk with multiple mags and 1 had a Glock and the other had some model of SIG.
For their sake they definitely never had them in the school. TO BE CLEAR they NEVER had it in school 🙄
Also there's no such thing as an ex-marine. Unless he was dishonorably discharged
Our grandparents had rifles in school.
They trained and learned gun safety at school.
Society fell off as a whole when those classes were taken out of the curriculum.
Where and when were these classes held?
We didn't have classes but every boy old enough to drive had one in their truck.

The anti-gun crowd are generally the same people that support late-term abortions too. I don't understand why more people aren't pointing out the hypocrisy with the anti-gun movement.
The defenition of insanity.
I know, all they ever want to do is restrictions and nothing that’ll actually work because they want power and need the crisis.
They don't care about children or lives they only care about talking points. None of them act in good faith and everything is an emotional debate with them. This is why they got angry when the 22 year old who stopped the mall shooting "but he was permit less carrying in a gun free zone which is a crime so he committed a crime to stop the crimes". These types of people don't recognize they are helpless Zebra victims waiting to get pounced on by a Lion, their human nature of self defense and community defense doesn't exist.
Great point and if Sleepy J's Administration truly cared about protecting children they would have funded to have 80K armed officers with access to AR's to protect our kids at schools, instead of funding 80K plus IRS agents to go after his political opponents.

My daughter just graduated from a rural high school in Colorado where the vast majority of teachers were certified to carry weapons during school hours. They had a large red sign on every door which stated “Faculty is armed and dangerous, do not enter” Yep, no problems there…

If you look at the stats its much more likely someone gets a teachers gun and accidentally or purposely kills someone than someone stops a school shooting.
What do you mean yep no problems there?
The fact that people know these schools have these AR-15s whether or not they use them will make a person who wants to harm anyone at this school have very serious second thoughts.

Terrorists attack always choose targets they believe are least capable of defending themselves, but if there is nowhere they can expect to not run into armed resistance, then there are no valid targets and they're more likely to just suicide by cop in their front yard (which is significantly better than attacking the public).

Yes, but those who get brought into court make up a minority of all mass shooters in US history. IIRC, the FBI said something like 60% of all mass shootings are politically motivated, with only shootings that take place at K-12 schools being outliers (as they're often done by former students with suicidal desires typically brought on by years of abuse & trauma, like being bullied throughout school and feeling like the staff never did anything meaningful to end the bullying).

In high school one of my teachers always had his concealed carry on him. Being in those classrooms and knowing the risk of school shootings (there was an uptick of school shootings, threats of school shootings, bomb-threats, and guns being found on students on campus around 2009-2013) it was always a high-stress factor and made us feel like fish in a barrel, where the only tactic we used in drills for such an event was to get under the desks and away from the window of the classroom door. I honestly ONLY felt safe in the class where I knew my teacher had a firearm and was capable of using it. This past year I’ve really started talking about the importance of carrying. Convinced my whole restaurant that I work at to get concealed carry permits and carry everyday. Keep up the good work !
I carry my gun everyday and everywhere, my uncle asked me once "why, you're not going to get robbed or shot at everyday." So I asked him, "are there fire extinguishers at your work?" He says "of course" I asked "why? There isn't a fire everyday right?" He says, "no, but its there just in case there is a fire." Back in my day, the school I went to, although rural, had a shooting team. Students brought guns to school and nobody shot anybody, wasn't that amazing! Most of the pickup trucks in the parking lot had a long gun or two in the rear window rack and nothing happened. It is the decay of the people in this county, and I am truly glad I am not young anymore.

Love this idea! Very similar to when they allowed pilots to carry in the cockpit to protect their aircraft.
Exactly what i was thinking
I am a school police officer. Another point always overlooked when discussing the arming of teachers is that the opposition “envisions” some borderline unstable teacher. They say “ do you really want so-and-so to have a gun”? But I know a teacher who was an army Ranger. He has years of combat experience. Do I want him to have a gun? Yes. Yes I do
Great example! 'They' always use the extremes as an example but forget to mention the overwhelming majority who is at least stable, many of which have experience and training. Anyway, hi from the Netherlands :)
There should be an obvious vetting process along with training for teachers that wish to carry. On top of that, the resource officer should be able to remove the ability of any teacher to carry without notice. Then a review process should follow to determine whether the removal was justified and whether it should be permanent. But then again, I also think that everyone should be able to carry anywhere at anytime, not hampered in any way. I think the above could work and be generally accepted until we all finally get our rights fully restored. Thanks for being a school resource officer. I pray that if you are ever required to dispense lead in defense of the innocent, that your feet run the right direction, your enemy falters, your aim is true, and conscience be clear.
My cousins husband is an Army veteran and an elementary school principal. Not sure if he carries or not though.
I want him to have 2!
If a teacher isn't stable enough mentally to be responsible with a firearm, they have no business in a classroom teaching children. If a teacher doesn't want to be armed that's one thing. If they can't be trusted with a gun because they might "snap" one day, they need to find some help and a different occupation.
I have been telling my family this exact thing for years we need to teach kids to be responsible and safe teachers set a good example for kids and keep them safe.

As I've learned more about body armor, I've considered buying one to fit in my daughter's backpack. I also thought about having the tops of school desks made from body armor material, or perhaps mobile pin-up boards schools use to post things like student pictures. Looks like a bulletin board but stops bullets. Yes, teachers/faculty need options to fight back, but providing cover in the meantime would also help IMO.

Armed officers in schools is not the answer. If it worked for you great, but might not have been best experience for everyone and they are far more likely to be involved unnecessarily in an interaction with a student than stop a shooter.

For the last 4 years, the school where I am employed has a security team with armed teachers on all campuses and an AR -15 in a locked gun safe on every campus. Many schools in Texas are already doing this.
When I was in high school, we had two paid police officers sitting at the school entrance or around other parts of the school. Luckily we never had a threat at my high school because those officers were armed and present at my school. Every school should have armed teachers or officers.
Nope. Every kid should have the right to education without fear of being shot.
@@etarepsedllits48 Basically if you read what I wrote, then every kid would be safe if there were armed teachers or officers. What you said would never happen unless there were armed professionals around the school.

@@etarepsedllits48 Are you on some kind of drugs? You completely missed the point of my comment. How would a shooter run into a classroom if a cop was sitting at the school entrance like my high school? Also at what point was I defending this so called carnage you think I am defending? If I call correctly I stated that there should be armed professionals to defend these kids. If a teacher trains with concealed carry, you can draw a handgun pretty quickly and put down a threat(if they don't have body armor).
@@RGRSRegen I can see that you're running out of argument as you're resulting in name-calling, but I'll ignore that and give you a little more of my time.
1. "Shooters" don't generally walk into schools with a hat on saying "I'm here to kill". Shooters walk into schools unnoticed or noticed but not thought of as a threat.
2. "Cops sitting at the school entrance" they need to quickly be where the shooting is. The time it would take to get from the entrance to a hall or classroom would allow multiple rounds to be fired.
3. "Teachers with guns" Of course you want them to be trained, but here's a better idea..... why not train cops to be schoolteachers .......How much extra pay dothe teachers get for becoming CPP operatives? I'll guarantee it's not worth the money.
You are defending carnage in schools with you and you're likeminded gun-owners insistance that AK47's and other semi-automatic weapons are perfectly fine to own.

Glad to see my state leading the charge in my profession. As a teacher, I strongly believe that we should be able to carry because I want to protect my kids and coworkers as well as myself. If I ever experience a school shooting, then I would rather fight back than hide and accept my fate... and you better believe that I want that fight to be as close to my favor as possible.

We had a few former Marines that taught at our school back in the 70s and 80s. They were veterans of war and it would not surprise me if they were packing heat back then. Either way, some pick ups had gun racks in the back window during hunting season. We were a hard target back then.
This is great. Now us as citizens need to build a relationship with our local police…where they know we are armed as well and help patrol our schools together. People always work better as a team.

I am with you Colion, I don't have children but I believe they are our most precious resource in life!
This made me so extremely happy when I saw this posted yesterday.
Once we have x amount of time of those AR15s being in each of the schools in that county, and they have not walked themselves out of those safes and harmed anyone, it eliminates the concern of a gun in the school available to whoever is designated to use it equaling danger to our kids.
This is literally to help preserve life of students AND the teachers / staff who are willing to risk their own lives to protect the children.
This is just amazing..
Teachers should do drills in the school with police departments during the summer. The safes should be tamper resistant so if a student finds it they cant brute force the combination.
I mean the fact that you NEED guns in schools should be the part that people should be concerned about since that's not a good thing at all. I can't imagine there being a gun at my school when I was a kid. Hell our police don't even carry guns.
So are you suggesting schools should have an ar15 in a secured location or have a person actually carry it around with them? Because those are 2 extremely different scenarios. One is purely for optics and posturing. The other doesn't innately increase the chances of stopping a potential attack.
@@chrislastname1994 Deterrent's, what you call "posturing", buzz word, are a valuable tool, history, statistics and many hours of criminal interviews prove that, but you also probably say "think of the children" when it comes to the jab huh?
You should be more worried about that and not happy at all.
In the rest of the world almost NO SCHOOL has such problems, it happens only in USA.
If a teacher needs an AR-15 to feel safe while teaching english, well, that's a problem bro. If they wanted to be good at shooting with rifles they could just go to apply for the navy instead.
This whole thing doesn't make any sense.
I've been saying it for years that schools need to have volunteer staff to carry on them a sidearm and the school officers armed with pistols and rifles. Gun Free Zones MAKE YOU a target because the shooter will have absolutely no resistance. Arm the volunteers and the school officers and you will be a less likely target because they don't want ANY RESISTANCE for what they are about to do. Take down the Gun Free Zone signs. Don't put up any warning signs that the school is armed. If someone comes into the school zone armed then they deserve to get what they got coming to them because they already made their choice and so did the schools.
I went to a small town that had a security officer who I believe was armed and we never had an issue. Gun fear or otherwise
No school district will allow volunteers though. All of them are lawyered up today and they'll claim it's too high of an insurance liability. And unfortunately, as it is, many schools use their police/resource officers incorrectly for things the administration should be handling such as discipline and punishment.
Mind you, I agree 100%, but it will never happen.
I've had teachers who were combat vets, hell I'm both a combat vet and a college adjunct professor. Should teachers be armed? Depends on the teachers. A citizen's right to arms should never be abrogated, even on a college campus.
I agree that as a defender you do not want a "fair fight". You want to identify and put down the threat as quickly and with the lowest human cost possible.
I know of at least two LEO'S who became teachers after retiring from law enforcement.
Most of my middle and highschool history teachers were vets, I would 100% put my life in their hands in an active shooter situation
In Texas we have two programs to help protect children in schools one of them, is the Marshall program which is run completely by the government and cost a ton of money per officer. The other is called the Texas School Guardian program. It has specialized training for people who are already School Employees and that already possess their license to carry. On the first day of training if they can't pass a proficiency exam with a firearm they're out of the program. These School Employees have been shown to go to Great Lengths to protect their children while unarmed. Consider what they can do with specialized training and firearms on their person at all times.
Schools have been realized as soft targets. As such, we have to defend them accordingly. When they cease to be actualized as a soft target, the madness will stop. Period.

The idea that a teacher doesn’t have the right to defend themselves or their children is what I find ridiculous. If we spent even half the money gave Ukraine, we could secure every school in this country. We did it with airports after 9/11
And uselessly so. The airports were never an issue. Soft schools, on the other hand, will ALWAYS be an issue. Lazy security allowed 9/11 to happen. And lazy government intelligence. Just like we have seen with the past 4 mass shooters. All of them known by law enforcement.

"IF" the government really wanted to protect schools it would have been done within months of the very first school shooting. The left only has one objective on their agenda and that's to control who has guns.

I even offered to donate firearms to the schools in his district and take them through instructions on how to use and store them properly. Some of the staff was all for it but of course the superintendent is a liberal moron who thinks the guns are just going to magically shoot someone through a safe without being touched. It's a shame we have to live life day to day worrying about our children going to school. So instead I did what I could and went ahead and ordered bulletproof book bags for my kids. And I'm going to start a fundraiser to get the money together to buy a piece of armor for each child's book bag to give them at least a Fighting Chance when I'm not there to help. I know I can't protect my child 24 hours a day but I damn sure will do everything I possibly can. Standing applause to this school district for realizing the reality of the situation. This school district is simply looking at the reality and research around school shootings and accepting the reality that the best way to protect students is to give staff and resource officers the most effective tools to do so.
This announcement makes me proud to say that I am a NC resident. Hopefully, ALL counties in NC--and every other State--can wake up and implement this policy...
Yes Yes Yes. This needs to be practiced in all State and school counties.
When I was in high school there were more rifles and shotguns at the school then there was any firearms at the police station
Interesting fact: I have a harder time walking into the emergency room than I do a school.
The E.R. Has actual police officers inside the building forcing you to stop and have your backpack scanned and I have to walk through a metal detector.
The school? Press a button and say, “I’m here to see the principal.”
**buzz** The door opens.
