Hoops is exactly the kind of bloke you want to see and hear in your team when you take the field. Much respect from this Pom.
Top bloke. Heart and head in the right place. Passionate about Aussie rugby. Good on em
Michael Hooper . . What a legend of a player and a man. I was living in Australia in 2012 and went to the test in Melbourne and the excitement in rugby circles for the series was spilling over to others who normally don't even know they have a national rugby team because you just could not miss the B&I supporters and their colours, spending, singing, fun . . . . For me Joe will have the team up for it and well coached ahead of the series starting and it will be a great spectacle
Stop talking shit, nobody gives a rats arse about Rah Rah
Great interview, Hoops is brilliant on the pitch and it sounds like he will do well coaching or working in the media. Obviously things are going so well for Big Jim with the state of the bedroom he did the interview in have a look at that mould!!!
A proud Englishman here. Of course, I would like the Lions to triumph; I expect the Lions to triumph but there is no question that the Aussies won’t turn up and make it a battle.
I was there for 2013 as we have a house over there and go most years; this time in Aussie winter. The whole tour thing was just incredible. I remember standing by the Opera House and it was just a sea of Lions - red, bit of blue, touch of green. It was just one huge crowd of supporters getting on like you do in rugby - and the Aussies played their part. Whole atmosphere so different from SA
Bitter Englishman more like it..one World Cup😂
@@JasonPurll-ep9yu an antipodean, I surmise. And a not untypical whingeing one. I suggest you come back to the adults section when your balls have dropped. If they do.
Sorry but no chance. The Irish will be the bulk of the team but adding some more bulk from a couple of English players and Finn at 10 and some of the centres from Scotland with maybe a token Welsh player (Wales fan be kind) considering Wales beat them comfortably 2 yrs out doesn't bode well.
@@danstancombe3806 If Rugby was our first sport blah blah but it aint. Any country could say that.
@@danstancombe3806 I've got nothing else to judge them on. They've not played a game under Schmidt yet so I can't say they've turned a corner so on current evidence you would say no. The force just lost by 47 to the Blues. The blues scrum was dominant and this was the scrum that was dominant against the Reds. I don't think Australia rugby has the depth to deal with what the Lions will bring over next year.
@@danstancombe3806 alot of ifs and buts in your comment. Rugby is a game of inches and rugby union isn't the major sport in Australia so it's a mute point.
Oh sir it bodes well for the Australians. Nice hard pitches are waiting lol
@@samuelhowell7364 oh hard fast pitches. You mean like the plastic pitches we play on in Europe. If you think that's an advantage in 2024 you are kidding yourself. Maybe back in the 90s.
Aussie pride will ensure its a competitive series. Can’t conceive an aussie team not scrapping for it. Forget RWC form - Jones is an absolute weapon.
But a combined Ire/Eng team with one or two Scottish players should be way too strong.
Aussie pride has been real helpful for the last two decades of Bledisloe Cups
Go Australia....You have our support from South Africa.
Cheers Boet!!
Same here but I can't see it happening.
Lions will smash them.
We got to give credit where it's due and Northern Hemisphere rugby is bloody good.
@@englishmenintown8622 agreed, but hoping for Australia to bounce back.
@@truthandjustice6838 I hope so
Imagine the Aussies winning the series ...it would be one of the greatest stories in sporting history.
I hope so, i love lions tours. It would be a pity to see a one sided affair. Australia need to up their game big time to compete
Top bloke, hope Oz are competitive. Also hope the Lions spank them in their own back yard. Looking forward to being there next year 🇬🇧
Pros; Brumbies (6-1) are flying high in Super Rugby with the Rebels (4-3) & Reds (3-3) both doing reasonably well as they all currently sit in the Top 6. Cons; Waratahs & Western Force in the Bottom 3 with 1 win each is a huge worry!
Our red,s doing well.aussie aussies to take it. Kiwi,s falling big time.😂😂😂😂😂
Cons... Wobblies WC result and general lack of success over the last decade or more.
Hopefully the club sides put out decent teams as well - it devalues the tour when test players are held back from the sides...
Brumbies did a number on the lions in a mid week last time. Cracking match.
@@wackpaddyknickknack Yep - the series needs that kind of competition to make it special ... bit of niggle as well!
Tbf the Lions never put out the 1st XV for those games either
@toma411 whats your point mate? A second or third string Lions team should still be world beaters yeah?
@@wackpaddyknickknack no not that, just that it's hard to criticise the club teams for holding back big players and 'devaluing' the tour, when the lions will do exactly the same
With Gatland gone as Lions coach, the team next year can be one of the best ever. Huge hiding for the Wallabies
They will be very very hard to beat I know that's hard to believe ATM but Australia has the players and now has 3 world class coaches
I'll need to see Oz win a few games before I'll believe they're not getting anything but a spanking. They would have to make a big turnaround just to avoid complete humiliation. Wales put 40 points on them the last time I looked.
Wallabies will be competitive. They seem to have more mongrel this year in Super Rugby Pacifica. Sick of being manhandled by the AB's. I think that the Lion's might feel it.
If Joe can turn Ireland into a strong rugby nation he can surely turn Aussie around.
Big Jim, there is a spelling mistake in your heading.
Is Hoops back in the fold now, as captain?
Answer
No 😂
Put money on Aussie now and prosper
I won a bucket load when I put money on them NOT to make it out of their WC pool.
Aussie are going great gun's in the Super Rugby, fantastic to see, pleased for our mate's across the ditch, and with Joe coaching,(no not Biden) they'll go great gun's,
Put Gats in charge and Aus will win. (Spoken as a Welsh fan).
No chance
Lions will be having kangaroo steaks
Ozzys lads have gone soft.
Can't see Australia competing tbh.
Don’t underestimate Joe Schmidt. No way NZ would have beaten Ireland in the WC2023 without Schmidt.
@@johnmc3862 Why wouldn't have NZ beaten them? NZ has far better cattle than Australia and there really isn't much difference in talent between Ireland and NZ, I would actually argue that NZ has more strike weapons than Ireland. Big gulf in talent between the best from the British Isles and Australia however.
Im Irish and i hope no irish players travel (you can have POM) and the lions are stuffed by Oz. If had my dream lions id let gatland take it too.
wallabies fan here. I can confirm Australia cannot compete with the lions. It’s going to be a bloodbath.
Should have skipped this tour and do tour in SA
Aussies are going to do it.
Short answer- no
Zero chance unfortunately!!
No
Wobblies will get rolled... better, and far more competitive would be to have a series against a combined Pasifika selection with one Test in Samoa, Tonga and Fiji. Australia have fallen so far, they don't deserve a series.
Kiwi detected
Opinion rejected
Clowns of the rugby world
This is the most unconvincing and unconfident waffle I have heard from any Australian. You have no chance with this attitude (and I'm not British or Irish)
Waste of time this tour. Should do a 3 teams Aus, nz vs lions otherwise this will be carnage. Aus don’t have a chance
Sorry did big Jim play for the lion's
Big Jim may be a bit arrogant, but he's great at what he does.
What arrogance?
@@coatknight huge arrogance- lad calls himself Big Jim and talks about his scrapping ad nauseum. Should be more humble like Goodey.
@@nickybutt9733 he clearly says it in jest and at times even in a disparaging way.
