I can't stop listening to this song. The harmonies are incredible. Each person has a chance to shine, and when you come together, the blending is seamless and stunning. I've been part of a capella groups in the past, and I know how hard it is to achieve this level of complexity. The dedication members of this group have to their craft -- not only performing, but improving on a constant basis and becoming better with every video -- is amazing. Each of you has so much to offer, and having the opportunity to listen as you share your gifts with us is a privilege. Thank you.
Wow, this is so beautiful and heartbreaking! Thanks Voiceplay and Bonnie, I thought I’d walked away from this feeling years ago. Then once I did, I discovered that it was so much better to be alone than neglected…

Holy mother of God! When my wife was dying of brain cancer, she'd sometimes play this song by Bonnie raitt... She knew I loved her more than my own life. It was more that she was going on a journey that I could not go along with her. I had to stay with our kids. I've never been the same.
I am sorry for you and your family’s loss. I hope you can get through the grief and keep going, you never stop missing lost loved ones but at some point hearing their favorite songs won’t hurt quite so much. I hope you find that sweetness in the memory soon

Whenever this one comes up in my Playlist, I just start crying. It's by far the most raw version of this song I've ever heard. I don't know what experiences Geoff was drawing off to arrange this and what the guys were pulling from during recording, but it's one of those times where you realize that emotion is universal.
Absolutely BEAUTIFUL -!!! . . . yeah. Other people have already made more intelligent comments, this is just going to stand as is. Good grief. . . That was gorgeous.
Nothing worse than loving someone so much who does not, or cannot😊 love you. I’m 65 and still searching for “him.” Beautiful rendition of this favored song! ❤ 😮 like
I shouldnt have listened to this at work...im going through a lot right now and this song just hit a little too hard. You guys are just *chef's kiss*. I wish I had found you sooner then last week.
I'm not the only one who loves it when Layne gets to sing in songs like this one, right? This cover was amazing. Everyone was so clear and you could easily hear the emotion in their voices without any wavering of tone. Great job to everyone.
So do I. His voice adds a lightness to the mix that rounds out the harmonies. It’s time to look into cloning him so there’s a singing Layne and Layne for beats. Oh: and one for the violin. But of course it’s everyone all together that makes VoicePlay magnificent.
I've listened to this song a lot thinking it was just a really good song but i think I've finally come to realize what music can really do for everyone. Reading these comments really show why they put there entire heart into singing every song they sing.
You don't have to make me love you, Voiceplay. All you have to do is start singing and everything is right in this world for a few minutes. 💗💗💗💗 No sorrows, no pains, nothing bad exists, while those voices fill my heart. A moment of peace in the world. ❤❤
100 percent THIS. Whether it's a sad and touching song like this one, or a fun one like their Halloween covers, VoicePlay's music always transports me, feeds my soul, helps me to stop, breathe, see and hear and feel the depth and the joy of living. Making music like this is such a gift, both to the listeners and, I'm sure, to the singers themselves. Thank you VoicePlay and EJ, for yet another demonstration of the range, not only of your voices, but of your hearts.
We absolutely need more of harmony for their newer songs from Voiceplay, what songs do you like or love for Voiceplay to do? My suggestion: Life love a Tragedy by Poison, collaborate with: Adam Rupp from Home Free just his vocal to take full lead.
As I draw close to finishing out my divorce after 15 years of what I thought was unbreakable, this rendition of such a beautiful song hit me very hard. Thank you Voiceplay for this amazing and emotional song choice. I needed this.
It puts me in mind of my divorce as well. Tom and I were married over 21 years before we divorced. It's been some years since, and we are both happily remarried now, but there is still a wistful sorrow that his love for me died...and with it what I too had thought unbreakable. Yes, I've moved on, but a little love is still there, sweet and sad. May you also move on, even if you cherish bittersweet memories too. 💜
I am listening for the first time in my life this song and I am going through a divorce too, and man, it is hard. I don't know what more to say, you get me and I feel you. Hope everything turned out good for you.
This has been a favorite since Bonnie Raitt released it. Geoff's arrangement is lush and gorgeous. Cesar was not only note-perfect, but also emotionally perfect every second. Layne was right there too. There wasn't a single second that Layne and his micro-expressions weren't EXACTLY perfect. That's hard. Singing harmony it's easy to get into the gorgeousness of the music instead of holding the emotional still-point. But Layne was as credible every second as if he were the one singing every line. His acting skills are beyond. Saw the same in True Colors. Usually we see Layne's comedic timing, but he just NAILED this as a dramatic performance. I've watched this 2-3 dozen times now. The entire performance is extraordinary.
Layne's voice also came through on the harmonies right before Geoff took the melody, and as always, it was like an extra warm hug. I love getting to hear Layne sing.
What songs do you want for Voiceplay to do with Lyane Stein? My suggestion is: I see Fire by Ed Sheeran especially Lyane Stein absolutely will take full lead.
@@deanmarion5477 Great question, I honestly never thought about it, and don't have a quick answer. I did go listen to Fire, though, and I think that is a great choice, I think Layne would shine in it!
How does this video have so few views?!? The complexity of the arrangement is one of Geoff's best, and the song is beautiful and heartbreaking to start with. The vocals are on par with the best that VoicePlay has ever done - and that's saying something!
I ask myself that every time I watch or listen to this (i.e., five or more times a day). I adore this arrangement. I do wish more of it had stayed vulnerable and openly heartbreaking like Cesar's part, but I love it all nonetheless and wish more people were listening to and watching it.
I have a confession to make... I´m clearly addicted, sigh. The first thing I do, connected to the internet in the morning - I listen to this song. There must be something very wrong with me!? Then I go to hear and view some other songs (VP and Geoff, blush) and I find myself back at this again. Is there any cure?☺ These harmonies! These Voices! These emotions... I could cry ❤🩹
Thanks to UA-cam, I have discovered singers I might never have stumbled upon. It's delightfully addicting. I would love to have the house anywhere I would like to be. Maine? Michigan? Vermont?
Cesar's breathy voice at the beginning sounds like he had been crying so long/hard he could barely sing... so emotional! Love this arrangement! And EJ is the PERFECT collaborator for this song!
What about this: wishful drinking by ingrid andress with Sam Hunt, collaborate with Kirsten from Penatatonix as ingrid andress, collaborate with Adam Chance from Home Free as Sam Hunt, Geoff will do the Bassline will use subharmonic, Eil Jacobson and Cesar de la Rosa for the high harmony. I want Lyane Stein to do half and half of ingressive phonation and regular beatboxing.
This has to be one of my favorites of Voiceplay's slower paced songs. The harmonies, the lead vocals, EJ, Cesar, Eli, LAYNEEEE, and Geoff's bassiness. What an amazing and intricate masterpiece guys, you knocked this one out of the park and have brought tears to my eyes.
Who hurt you, Cesar? That intro was chilling. I love E. J., it's simply magic when he is on a track. Once again Layne singing is breathtaking. Eli kills me every time, and Geoff is like a warm comforting blanket of sound.
This is so incredible. I've always believed that Cesar's voice is beautiful, and just perfect for songs like these, and that's been reinforced 110% with this song. EJ's vocals just fit so perfectly too. Then there's Geoff being Geoff, always great stuff, Eli's high notes add so much flavour to the piece, and Layne singing is an absolute delight. Not to mention the facial expressions - it's clear that this song was FELT. By me too lol. Just phenomenal.
I’ve listened to everything Voiceplay has ever put on UA-cam and I have to say, this is my favorite song they’ve done so far. This is audible perfection

Also, can we take a second to talk about how this video is put together? I love the isolation of each member in different rooms in the empty house. It really feels like the aftermath of a huge fight/breakup and Cesar's obvious devastation just crushes my heart
Yes, this, and I'm looking at what room they are each in and thinking of meanings it might add, even if inadvertent on their part. But they are masters of subtle details, so it wouldn't surprise me if there were significance to those choices...
This should have millions of views. Absolutely beautiful arrangement and Cesar really blew me away on this song. Lots of magical sounding chords throughout and everyone sang their hearts out.
Every time I hear one of their songs I can listen to them 20+ times and find something new in the vocals or acting each time. There is so much to see that there is no way you can see it/hear it with only one view
I love just about everything VoicePlay does. But some of the harmonies in this piece, combined with the melancholy, make this one of my new favorites. That last chord is simply unique in the universe. Riveting.
OUTSTANDING, Gentlemen. E.J. Cardona, you are awesome. This performance brings tears to my eyes. 100 stars out 100! BRAVISSIMO! Thank you for including the lyrics. Wonderful close harmony!
I grew with Bonnie raitte's version.... thank you. Thank you for bringing this back to life. Thank you for putting so much of yourselves and your emotions into it. And thank you for honoring without binding yourselves too the original.♥️♥️
I can’t understand why this doesn’t have a million views already. The amazingly interesting jazzy arrangement and the heartbreakingly beautiful vocals are really astounding. Thank you for producing such a masterpiece.
There are things that cannot be talked about or sung about them without experience. I play this song over and over again and I'm amazed at how deep and soulful you sing it. If i had known this song 23 years ago and given the chance i would have had it played at my father's last farewell. Unfortunately, I was "only" 10 years old and no one bothered to explain to me what actually happened. I didn't say goodbye to my dad until later, when I found out everything and could say goodbye. Thank you for this song, VoicePlay.
Cesar! Your emotions in the first verse break my heart every time. Absolutely beautiful.

This was absolutely beautiful. The harmonies were so beautiful and got my heart melting all over the place. Geoffs bassline got me fainting with each note he sang lol 🥲🥲
What songs do you like or love for Voiceplay to do? Make sure it complex for Geoff for the Bassline: my suggestion for their next song: From here to Eternity by Def Leppard, collaborate with Scott Hyoing from Penatatonix.
Ngl I thought for longer than I would like to admit that you said that his bassline got you farting and all I could think about was how that works and whether perhaps brown noise is actually real
I don't say this lightly, because I have been a passionate fan of theirs since their very first performances, but this particular rendition and arrangement is the equal of Take 6, and I can think of no higher praise that I can bestow upon an acapella group than that. Well done gentleman, well done indeed.
Wow! I didn't realize what a sad song this is. The yearning, the longing of unrequited love, beautifully presented by this wonderful and talented group. I'm about to tear up here.
I may never forgive you guys for doing such a perfect job with this song. You had me ugly crying. This is the song that showed me, years ago when it first came out, what an incredible alchemical power art has: it can create something beautiful out of something tragic and painful. It has remained a touchstone for me all of my life. I never thought I would hear a version that topped the original. To sing a song like this properly you have to express those painful emotions, and so you have to be willing to feel them. You gentlemen did not shy away. I deeply respect you for that.
Dear God. That was absolutely gorgeous and heartbreaking in the same breath. I have no other words to describe this except to say gentlemen......you never cease to amaze me and touch my heart.
Showed my 8 year old son the We Don’t Talk About Bruno video. He’s in the living room now watching back to back VoicePlay videos. And wants me to teach him subharmonics to sing like Geoff. I’ll… uh… get right on that
I love seeing Layne sing. Don't get me wrong he's an amazing vocal percussionist but I also think he's a beautiful singing voice. My two favorite beat boxers are Layne and Adam from Home Free and both of them have amazing tones when they're actually singing.
Looking at the thumbnail again, and they're all so sad! Except for Geoff, who sort of looks like he's gonna find whoever broke his buddies' hearts and give them a piece of his mind. How dare someone hurt his beloved Layne!? 🥰
I think it’s because this song has an element of closure to it, that it conveys some peace. It’s a final goodbye. The decision has been made, the painful worst has been faced. That’s why if you’re not crying by the time Cesar finishes you’re probably are balling like a babe by the time Eli sings the lines, “The morning will come and I’ll do what’s right, just give me till then to give up this fight…” The guys killed it with this song. Masterfully performed by all of them.
This is just so beautiful, Cesar is melting my heart with his vocals in this, EJ, OMG & Layne's high note & vocals too, he has such a beautiful voice as well, I can never hear enough of Layne lol, Geoff's Bass, swoon lol & of cause can't forget beautiful Eli. that range. you are all just amazing. If VP ever came to Australia, I'd be there in a heartbeat
What about this: wicked game by Chris isaak, collaborate with Chris isaak definitely will take full lead, collaborate with Adam Rupp from Home Free for low harmonic will used his 3rd and 4th octave ( not overpowering but blend with the other harmony by Eil Jacobson, Cesar de la Rosa) Geoff will used his subharmonic with different depth for the Bassline.
"I can't make you love me if you don't" well I already loved Voiceplay before I heard this song, and this only makes me love Voiceplay even more, because 1) they have made this into something that to me feels like a big hug, and 2) this cover hits while I'm sick with Covid-19 and therefore have to hold up social distancing, but really being in need of a hug. Thank you Voiceplay for this beautiful song ❤️
@@Thevoiceplay to the moon & back a thousand times ❤️ I would love to hear Layne take the lead in a soft ballad. While I absolutely love Layne's beat boxing his voice melts my heart. Cesar, you're a little fire cracker & an amazing addition to the group. Please stay forever with Voice Play. Well done as always guys ❤️
VoicePlay's version of this song is incredible! The solos, the harmonies, the entire atmosphere will take your breath away. It takes a lot to get to me, but this one did it. Congrats guys on a stunning cover!
@@Thevoiceplay : what about this: original key in D major: Going to California by Led Zeppelin, absolutely Eil Jacobson will full lead, collaborate with Adam Chance from Home Free for his low baritone low notes in the background as Bassline with Geoff for undertone with melody with the top Bassline will use only subharmonic with different depth.
They did it again! Beautiful tenor showcase, and EJ's voice is so smooth. Layne gets to sing the whole time! Beautiful blend and tone from Geoff, and Eli's range on full display. I also love Cesar getting a lot of solo time, because his voice is absolutely beautiful
What about this: I Just Want to Make Love to You by Foghat, collaborate with Scott Hyoing from Penatatonix will take full lead, collaborate with Tim Foust will do the Bassline in the background with undertone melody with Geoff will used only subharmonic with different depth, Eil Jacobson, Cesar de la Rosa will do the high harmony.
This is such a lovely arrangement. Like BUTTER! So emotional. I love the opening which treats us to such rich jazz chords, and yet it doesn't have a jazz feel. It's just lush and full with the lightness of Cesar's grippingly emotional sweet tone. Then EJ's tone changes the intensity and he takes more liberties with the melodic line with little runs and flips, and Eli brings even more intensity as the whole thing builds and amplifies. The syncopations, the dissonances resolving so lusciously, the dynamics are just brilliant, the whole thing is aurally so much more satisfying than the original, and I LOVE Bonnie Raitt!
This is like...like standing in a cool rock waterfall on a hot, beautiful summer day! Cesar’s voice is the water, cool and refreshing, washing over you, and the harmonies are the embrace of the warm sunlight! The other solos are like beautiful stones, shining in the rocks around the waterfall! I know that probably sounds crazy, but that’s how it makes me feel.

Heartbreakingly beautiful - especially Cesar's part at the beginning. So much emotion.
Just heard this group for the first time today. They are great .
You saying that you want Voiceplay to do Jazz music? Definitely yes.
EVERYTHING VoicePlay is a masterpiece 😉
@@AcapellaAddict4Lyfe Couldn’t agree more!
Ceaser and EJ 👏 phenomenal! The whole group created some much needed magic with this one
9/9. LAYNE, YOU HAVE SUCH A BEAUTIFUL! WHAT A BEAUTIFUL SONG!
Song says - I can't make you love me...
Voice play says - hold my beer...
Oh wow, we rarely hear Layne sing. Easy to forget the man is just as good as the rest of the band at vocals.
Man I love the deep rich tone Geoff has during this song
So amazing
OMG... Look at these LOOOOW notes!! 😍😍😍😍😍😍🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤
Same. I’m bawling my eyes out. Snot bubbles and everything
Ugly crying each and every time I hear it. 😢❤
I still love to listen to it.
That two curling deep voice is the absolute best. Bonnie would be proud fellas
What a beautiful performance. My mother was moved to tears when she watched this video.
I’ll… uh… get right on that
I love it so much when we get to hear Layne sing!! you all have such beautiful voices
I love seeing Layne sing. Don't get me wrong he's an amazing vocal percussionist but I also think he's a beautiful singing voice. My two favorite beat boxers are Layne and Adam from Home Free and both of them have amazing tones when they're actually singing.
I love this sad song so much. I lived it.
Such a beautiful, delicate, heartfelt cover. Absolutely lovely, fellas. And wonderful to see EJ with you again!!
Delicate is a perfect word for this arrangement 💗
EJ is just the bestest!
What about this: Goodbye For Good This Time by Def Leppard, collaborate with Adam Chance from Home Free to take full lead.
Cesar went to the well…and the rest of us cried. VoicePlay you guys are magnificent! You all did this piece serious justice!
4:04 Here in the dark, in these final hours I will lay down my heart and I'll feel the power, but you won't ... 🎶EJ!! This takes my breath away!
A simple arrangement + with 5 amazing voices = A masterpiece
I seriously don't understand the few views this video has. It's a masterpiece.
You guys are the greatest.
Brought me to tears! Kudos guys! But you made me love you! :)
Looking at the thumbnail again, and they're all so sad! Except for Geoff, who sort of looks like he's gonna find whoever broke his buddies' hearts and give them a piece of his mind.
How dare someone hurt his beloved Layne!? 🥰
I feel like my mind is free of all the killing thoughts by listening to this heavenly work of art...
I find this song strangely peaceful. Like, I know the lyrics are sad, but the way you guys sing it just calms something inside me.
It may also be the setting of the peaceful house with its spare beauty, order, and limited color palette...
1) This is beautiful. 2) Geoff was like, okay, Layne, extended 5 part harmonies in Running Up that Hill? I see what you did there.
Acapella should be up there with the big hits, its so soul evoking🥺🥺
"I can't make you love me if you don't" well I already loved Voiceplay before I heard this song, and this only makes me love Voiceplay even more, because 1) they have made this into something that to me feels like a big hug, and 2) this cover hits while I'm sick with Covid-19 and therefore have to hold up social distancing, but really being in need of a hug. Thank you Voiceplay for this beautiful song ❤️
Literally cries every time I listen to this.
Managed not to tear up until 1/2 way through 😢
A beautiful song - performed superbly❤❤❤❤
You guys don’t even have to make me love you. Cause I already do……..like a lot…😅❤️
Like a lot a lot or a little a lot?
An enormous amount!
@@Thevoiceplay an insane, possibly unhealthy amount of love...
so a lot a lot
@@Thevoiceplay Like to Infinity and Beyond! So a lot a lot😀
8/22 THIS IS SO BEAUTIFUL! I LOVE IT WHEN LAYNE SINGS! LISTENING TO YOUR BEAUTIFUL HARMONIES IS LIKE SEEING A BEAUTIFUL TAPESTRY!
All those beautiful harmonies and high, powerful notes! And yet, Geoff's low runs don't get lost. I heard them all! Gorgeous, all of them!
This made me cry. 😢
Cesar kills it in this. Then EJ comes in and makes me forget how to think straight. What beautiful harmonies and runs by all of these fantastic men
EXCELLENT! E,J. Cardona, you ROCK! Love the close harmony! This performance brings tears to my eyes. BRAVO! 5 stars out of 5!
VoicePlay's version of this song is incredible! The solos, the harmonies, the entire atmosphere will take your breath away. It takes a lot to get to me, but this one did it. Congrats guys on a stunning cover!
Thanks!
Amazing job as always. About out to Geoff for the arrangement and Payne for the beatboxing
@@deanmarion5477 totally agree !
@@77kiki77 : ❤️
This great song is from Bonnie Raitt. It's on her grammy award winning album Luck of the Draw from 1991. This is a wonderful version from Voiceplay.
What beautiful imagery. Very appropriate. I hope you write poetry, with your way with words.
@@joyfulyes Not as much as I used to. But thanks. I did write a Doctor Who fanfic not long ago. Well, a few years, so pretty long I guess.
It's hard to write a comment with your eyes full of tears. Powerful. Perfect. Exceptional. I'm out of words. Cheers! //Rick
Excellent , Gentlemen. E.J. you are awesome. This performance brings tears to my eyes. 100 stars out of 100. Love the close harmony. Thank you for including the lyrics.
