Band-Maid have 120+ songs that demonstrate they are the best progressive hard rock band on the planet. If you like any type of rock, then you've found the holy grail. Band-Maid are their own genre of rock.

Band Maid is a musician’s band. Yes, you are quite perceptive to catch Akane (dr) and her use of half-time. It is absolutely one of her go-to techniques. As well as creative and varied fills. And she loves the double kick. Even when no other drummer would’ve done it. And you got your first glimpse of how MISA (bass) plays lead lines, pick, and slap throughout. I’m torn with which song to recommend! I’ll give you options with a few hints and let you decide 🤷🏻 “the non-fiction days,” same era, alt rock banger, perfectly executed rock song with dynamic shifts. Both familiar and unique. “Onset,” LIVE. One of their 5 instrumental tracks. Prog/classic rock. Melodic solo features and familiar song structure…without words. “Moratorium,” LIVE. this mv was my introduction to BAND MAID and japanese girl groups in the summer of '16. youtube suggested this one and looking at the thumbnail i almost did not check it out. i thought - " yeah right ' a japanese idol group dressed as maids. it's gotta suck , right ? ! yeah right - i'm so glad my curiosity got the better of me and i watched it. blew me away on first listen. have not looked back since. here i am - a hundred girl groups later completely immersed in it.
Band-Maid is a genre of their own. They can do fast paced songs like this or slow it down for songs like About Us, Daydreaming, and Endless Story. They chose Endless Story as the last song of their 10th Anniversary Tour at Yokohama Arena, and the tears were flowing at the end. There is video of it on their UA-cam channel.

If you want to do some more early songs and don't mind them not having MVs, I can recommend "Freezer," "Arcadia Girl," and "Shake That," all from their second album, New Beginning (which also has Thrill and Real Existence). If you prefer an MV, definitely go for "non-fiction days." These songs are all written by others, but the Maids chose them to play and put their own touches on them, I'm sure. I enjoy listening to your insights and have subbed.
Those folks telling you to watch the official live of this? They're not wrong. They've also gotten better and better over the years but taking it chronologically is a great idea.
This is a much better example of their "core" sound than Thrill, IMO. Hard rock with a hint of metal, punk speed and energy, clean vocals and catchy choruses, and more technical than you'd expect.

The live version of this song (also available on their official channel) is much better, this song like "Thrill" belongs to a time when the Maids were not allowed to record their own compositions. If you are going to follow the chronological order of their releases keep in mind that from the song "Alone" onwards the Maids started to include their own songs... and this is especially noticeable in the guitar and bass riffs and the use of bass drum double kick.🤔 By the way, the pop punk rock is the base of their music, not metal.😉

Fast Pace and In You Face.......that's Band-Maid, they can melt your face, then melt your heart. Check out "Daydreaming" I love that you're starting Band-Maid from the beginning, it's the best way. Akane in the Queen of tempo change.
"Fast paced." As you noted, there's a lot of dynamics, so often they're actually going slow. Yet it still feels fast. What's going on is that the band has unbelievably sharp attack, always together on the spot, and always at the right time, including little pushes and drags even. When they say they are "An impossibly hard rocking maid band" this is always what comes to my mind. It's not the tempos, necessarily (though these tend to be faster than other bands on average), but the attack driving the sound ferociously, that simultaneous multiple instruments all coming together to deliver punch after punch after punch. Even really technical metal bands don't often manage to do this as well as the Maids do. Compare, say, Meshuggah, a band that is almost nothing but attack to the point of complete atonality at times, and Band-Maid compares pretty favorably, I'd say... all while being crazy melodic at the same time (human, as you say). This is why a lot of people describe the band as being high energy. It takes a lot of effort to be right on time for the composition ALL of the time. Even to the point where they intentionally have a few songs that are NOT sharp attack songs, being "sloppy" on purpose. The Maids clearly believe that "less is more" only when it's actually more, and do not fear going overboard with what works for them. Hence things like the constant guitar and bass slides, that other bands use only occasionally, as though it's more "tasteful" to leave that for certain moments. The Maids know this is rock, and it should be all out, all the time.

Compare, say, Meshuggah, a band that is almost nothing but attack to the point of complete atonality at times, and Band-Maid compares pretty favorably, I'd say... all while being crazy melodic at the same time (human, as you say).
This is why a lot of people describe the band as being high energy. It takes a lot of effort to be right on time for the composition ALL of the time. Even to the point where they intentionally have a few songs that are NOT sharp attack songs, being "sloppy" on purpose. The Maids clearly believe that "less is more" only when it's actually more, and do not fear going overboard with what works for them. Hence things like the constant guitar and bass slides, that other bands use only occasionally, as though it's more "tasteful" to leave that for certain moments. The Maids know this is rock, and it should be all out, all the time.

Cool, u found one of my favorite bands. The maidiacs will show u the way. What prompted me to comment was your take on social media and technology. By coincidence, that brings me to my other favorite band who have alot to say about those topics. And weirdly enough, they are friends of band maid and recently did a collab with them. I think you will find this interesting. Normally wouldnt start with a couple of videos because like band maid, they are best live but they do good videos.
