    Dude I've been watching Kelsey for YEARS!! I've wanted to do UA-cam for going on 10 years (chasing my 5th grade pipe dream) and I never felt like it would be truly possible until I found her videos. 2024 is the year I'll be putting what I learned from her into action and I'm so glad I follow someone who's basically living proof that it is still possible to grow on youtube as an Artist in the 2020's

    • @sketchesofshay

      YES it is doable!! I thought the same way but here I am a year later with 50,000+ subs, making almost a full time living off of sponsorships, ad revenue, and other streams of income. Kelsey told me she’s workin on an update UA-cam artist Workbook for next year so make sure to keep an eye out for that!!

    Hey Shay! quick question (which may seem a bit silly). How do you keep your art stylised while still semi realistic? For example, drawing real people like Hannibal or Will!

    • @sketchesofshay
      @sketchesofshay  10 місяців тому +18

      I think this comes from really understanding anatomy fundamentals, structure, and proportion and being able to warp those things to suit a certain style! I know this is kind of vague but I would say really focus on understand the structure of what your drawing and then "break the rules" to get the semi-realistic style.

    I guess what I love about your videos is yes the art part but I really enjoy listening to your voice your like the present day Bob Ross. And your art is just a beautiful and expressive. It's just beautiful eye candy. The way you draw faces and use color is just so beautiful. I always get so excited when I see a new video of yours. I just love putting on your videos while I draw. Keep up your beautiful art Shay, your an amazing artist and I hope you never lose the passion for art. Hope you have a great rest of your day.❤

    such a good video ❤️ just started out myself because i consume a lot of art videos while drawing, and thought why not try to make some myself, maybe someone else would enjoy to watch that too. don’t get me started on the speaking part, i‘m doing it without for now. but after hearing you speak about this i could really relate to everything. my lack of verbal communication could really benefit of trying to speak in videos too 😅

    Totally agree with using what you have at your disposal first. Chances are the first few videos you make probably aren't going to be great whether you have expensive equipment or not. Anything learned usually requires some practice and getting a few videos out of the way before you can really start to see some improvement. Best to just upgrade as you grow as a content creator.

    I love what you do and what you make, and your style of filming and conversational approach to your videos really does feel like I’m on call with a friend! It’s actually really helped make the otherwise very daunting idea of making videos for myself much more approachable, and that’s something I’m aiming to do this year thanks to people like you and Kelsey! Thank you so much for being a resource and inspiration to other artists, it’s really awesome!💕

    Absolutely loved seeing your video. I’m an art UA-camr too and sometimes while filming I get lost into the art process which doesn’t really get me the best camera shots. How do you deal with trying to juggle making art authentically and filming well?

    • @sketchesofshay
      @sketchesofshay  8 місяців тому

      that's a great question! honestly it's still tough to balance, especially since this is an income source to me and I gotta get a video out every week to keep myself fed lol. Always put your art first and make it the most important step, but set timers and reminders to move your camera or keep a shot list in front of you while you work so that you don't forget. Developing a healthier art set up by standing up and stretching every 30 min can naturally break up your art sessions and encourage you to change camera places.

    I hate the word Gen I hate ageism I hate being grouped in with my Gen I’m studying art at 49 . I find your age group of artists very funny and very smart I have to say I ran around being mindless when it came to mindfulness I never even knew I was missing out on so much life. and learn so much from your age of artists especially the calmness you yourself exude. You seem careful on not stereotyping but I never realized how hurt one can feel when stereotypes for me on age arise. Thank you you did great 👍 n this video by not making me feel like a wannabe or like a bossy Karen Troll how so many view my sex and age group.

    My question is...do I edit that into the meat of my youtube video, or is there somewhere for me to upload it and it'll add itself to my video?

    How do you all feel about digital art videos? I noticed many digital artists show themselves drawing on the tablet instead of an actual screen recording. Do people feel more of a connection with seeing the artists draw?

    • @sketchesofshay
      @sketchesofshay  7 місяців тому +1

      I think so! It seems more real/cozier in my opinion. It's a little more cumbersome to film but I like how it looks! It's almost like you're drawing beside them, instead of just a screen recording. But it is sometimes much easier just to show a screen recording so I do both depending on my time hehe

    • @sketchesofshay
      @sketchesofshay  10 місяців тому +2

      I usually try to keep them 30 min or less! for storage and organization sake. if there is a really boring/uninteresting section of the piece I am working through, I usually don't end up filming it. and sometimes it is annoying to have a camera in the way. But yeah typically it's 10-30 min recordings of what I am painting or drawing.
