      Loving it so far! I didn't realize it had mystery/thriller elements.

    Wow thanks so much for talking about Countdown! I ❤ anything 60s-70s related so I'll definitely be picking these up... maybe in March for middle grade March.
    I loved Lonesome Dove SO MUCH too! I read it a couple years ago and now you're making me want to reread it. Lol. I really enjoyed Streets of Laredo too but not the other two books.

      I'm considering Streets of Laredo now that I've finished Lonesome Dove - sooo good!

    I felt much the same way about Lonesome Dove. I think its a snapshot of America at that time. I nearly made myself sick crying like a baby at the end.

    Can’t wait to read Lonesome Dove now after your review! ❤ The Deborah Wiles series also sounds amazing!! Adding that to my POPs. 😊

      Lonesome Dove was amazing - really exceeded my expectations! And I love Wiles' historical novels - besides the Sixties Trilogy, Kent State was stunning, especially on audio.

    Sue, I am slowly reading Lonesome Dove along with several other books. Planning to start Brooklyn this evening in preparation for a buddy read of Long Island later in the month. I checked the ebook of Countdown off of my Libby. Thanks for the recommendation! I am so looking forward to it. I was born in 1968 but remember many of the things you mentioned from my childhood.

    I just finished The Mysteries of Paris by Eugene Sue at 1300 pages (in small fonts). It. Was published in installments in France in 1843:

    Oh dear maybe I shouldn’t have given up on Lonesome Dove! However I loved Drums of Autumn and am waiting for the next book to publish. Countdown sounds fascinating. I would have been a year older than Frannie at that time. In NZ we didn’t worry about a bomb. It was the communists could come! We did drop cover and hold because of earthquakes. But newspapers and TV (which my family had only just got) covered events inUSA. Specially remember shock of JFK being shot a bit later on. Sometime I must read Countdown to compare. Happy you are enjoying Warrior Girl.

      Yes, Lonesome Dove really surprised me - so much emotional depth, so many unexpected plot twists, and such wonderful characters. That's interesting to hear the differences in NZ at that time - her Sixties Trilogy is excellent - highly recommended. I'm Loving the Firekeeper's Daughter now that I'm further in - I hadn't realized it has mystery/thriller elements.

    Read Lonesome Dove and The FireKeepers Daughter last summer and loved them both. Then went straight into Warrior Girl Unearthed which I loved but wasn’t quite as good as the first. I also just found LD’s sequel Streets of Laredo at a used book store although for some reason I’m hesitant on whether I want to continue with the series. So glad you appreciated LD as much as I did.

      I would definitely like to read more - as much as I loved Lonesome Dove, I fund the ending disappointing - it just suddenly ended, with no resolution for any of the characters. I was left with so many questions!

    Nice! I read a couple of similar history through a Jewish teenage girl's eyes books, but they went through more spaced-apart eras, one of which was during women's suffrage protesting...blue ribbon? yellow ribbon? there was a string or ribbon that helped the supernatural guide navigate, but i can't think of the series name!

    The first big event I really remember is the assassination of JFK. I was in 8th grade music class. The days that followed the funeral procession on television the riderless horse. Scary times for a 13 year old.

    Sue, do you think you will eventually read the other 3 books in the series?

    • @SueJacksonDE
      @SueJacksonDE  5 днів тому

      I might read Streets of Laredo, the sequel. The other two are prequels, but I guess they're all written by the same author in the same way, so I'd probably enjoy them all!
