Hi Olivia, you post a very informative and usefull for us. I’m planning to go Murren and explore Lauterbrunnen, schilthorn, manlichen, gruschalp.. should i get a bernes oberland pass or just get a half fare card? Thank you..
You should get BOTH. Because the half fare card will entitle u to a 50% off on your purchase of the Bernese Oberland pass. You use the BO pass during ur time in the region, and for your remaining days in other places etc Zurich Lucerne Geneva etc u use the half fare card to pay for your transport. Hi Olivia, great informative video! Wanted to know if there is room for a rolling bag (22" carryon size) on the buses? We need to take a bus ride to get to our accomodation in Bernese Oberland area. Thank you!

I will be there for 7 days in Switzerland planning to travel from Zurich to Bern, then Bern to Lauterburren, then from Bern to Zermatt ,Zermatt to Lucern,Lucern to Zurich. base on Google information about the train tickets for all this destinations it seems the half swiss pass is a better option, we are 2 people, what will be your opinion? swiis half pass or shoul I get swiis travel ? While traveling by train or bus in Switzerland, are any of the signs found in English? If not, how does one visiting Switzerland understand where they are going?
Hi Olivia, really enjoyed watching your videos. Informative and useful. I plan to travel to Switzerland for 12 days. Full travel pass or half-fare card is recommended?
The swiss travel pass is better for 12 days! Since you are alr spending quite a significant sum for it I would even opt to upgrade to first class for full comfort and luxury, esp since your trip is gonna be a long one in Switzerland. You can purchase it via my link: m.kkday.com/en/product/2524-swiss-travel-pass?cid=13776
hi Olivia, first of all I have to say how incredible is your channel , It is helping me a lot to understand how transportation works in Switzerland. I will be in Zurich and I will go to Montreux so I could understand with your videos that I can buy supersaver instead point-to point to save money but I can't make a mistake ... I have to get the right train and there are just few minutes between connexions. What is your recommendation to localize where to get my train in the station please? Also how do I know where to stop in Montreux or there is just one place to stop? ) I will be going to the Christmas market in Montreux) thank u in advance!
The train platform number, the time of departure and arrival are all clearly indicated when you make the ticket purchase on SBB app. that should give you sufficient information to make your transfer. There is also only just one stop "Montreux", you wont go wrong.
Hi Olivia! Thanks very much for your vids and blog articles re Switzerland especially getting around, cultural norms - they’re really informative and insightful! My wife and I will be in Switzerland from 31 May for 2 weeks - she’s got work meetings for a week in the middle, leaving us 3 days at the start and end of the 2 weeks. (We only have a very sketchy itinerary so no long train rides planned as yet). From your YT vid and the related blog I’m guessing the Half Fare Card may be a better choice? (let me know if you think otherwise). I do have some questions regarding the SBB app, 3rd-party travel pass resellers, connecting multi-currency debit cards to the SBB app vs regular credit cards, travel passes to Germany and hope you can advice. Here goes: 1. What differences (if any) for buying the travel pass from SBB vs 3rd-party resellers (e.g., Klook, KKday, etc) . 2. Where on the SBB app would your travel pass be found? (e.g., main page) Would a ticket for a specific trip appear on the same page as the base/main pass? (e.g., Half Fare Card and a ticket for Geneva to Lausanne) - so it’s quick to locate if a ticket inspector wants to check . 3. Are there any discounted entries (e.g., to museums, parks, etc) with the Half Fare Card? 4. Can a multi-currency debit card like Revolut, YouTrip, Wise be linked to the SBB app for payment of tickets? 5. Do you have recommendations for train travel from either Lucerne or Zurich to Munich (either direct or 1 stop)? Many thanks! Vincent
Hi, please book a mini consultation with me because I won’t be able to answer everything with just a comment reply. Thank you! buymeacoffee.com/olliechinny
Hi Olivia thanks for your videos. We will stop by Zurich for 4 days from Paris then go to Venice. Do you recommend us having Swiss pass? We’re not planning to go all over the place we just wanna taste the life of Swiss for a bit. And don’t wanna spend so much money either because we don’t have unlimited time and money. Then we have 2 middle age kids with us. Pls. advice thank you.
Hi Olivia. Thanks a lot for the useful video. I will be moving to CH in a month. Could you please tell me if it is possible to have a card which has travel credit? (In order to skip buying ticket every time, just check in and check out)
@@Olliechinny Thanks a lot for your prompt response. Tickets bought online via SBB app do not need validation at those orange stands as you showed, right?
We are each bringing a carry-on suitcase on the train. I’m concerned about leaving it unattended. Are we allowed to put it in front of us or on our lap?
Thank you very much for these useful informations. I understand that the Saver Day pass can be used around CH within 24 hrs? am coming just for 3 days in CH and will have a city pass from my hotel. Can i use my city pass of Geneva to take the train to go to Bern or a Saver Day pass? Can i use Saver Day pass in Grindelwald, interlaken, Zermatt? I do not intend to go on Top of Europe.Should i buy my Gondola tickets earlier ou on the spot? Thanks a lot!
Your city pass is only valid for within Geneva. To go to Bern, either get a point to point ticket or the saver day pass. And yes You can use the saver day pass for your train and buses to Grindelwald, Interlaken and Zermatt but NOT for the special cable cars eg to First or Gornergrat. You can buy them on the spot after checking the weather.
Hey Olivia! Im planning to go to Switzerland in September (abt a week time). My plan is Zurich-> Interlaken-> Geneva SDo you think it worths getting the Swiss Travel Pass (1st class/ flex/ 6 days) for USD700/ person? It sounds a lot tho. Thx for your advice 🙏
A physical ticket like the one you showed how to purchase from the ticket machine does NOT need to be validated! The orange boxes are only for multiple trip tickets where you purchase six trips in advance and then have to validate before boarding. Most tourists will likely not purchase this type of ticket.
Hi Olivia, is the SBB app all i need to buy tickets for ANY train during my multi-city travel in switzerland? Or if not, any alternative app that can serve all or most train operators? TIA
Hi Olivia, hope this message finds you well. Im Indonesian and nearly im going to holiday to Amsterdam-Paris-Switzerland for the first time. Okay, so i wanna ask a question about "How to refund my items' tax at Paris, if im leaving to Switzerland by train?" :( im so desperate about it, really. I hope you can help, thanks
Good day Hi kindly help Me and my son from LA will Be in Switzerland on Oct 19 or 20 from pAris Iwant to experience a train ride Bermina Where can we start , which city comin from paris . You think zermattnor Interlaken ? We can buy ticket? And do we need a swiss pass to cut fare cost , Planning to exit at geneva on 25th
3:30 It is not exactly correct that if you have a physical ticket, you must validate it with the orange machine. It only applies to physical tickets with no date on it, like multiple-journey tickets. If you buy a simple ticket at the machine, it will already have a date printed on it, typically today's date and the ticket will be valid until 5 AM the next day.

Hi Olivia, Hope you are well :) We are a tourist family coming to Switzerland for a week. We are planning to explore one tourist destination daily as it will be hard to visit multiple places daily having a child with us. Which travel option do you recommend for us ? Will the swiss pass benefit us ?
.Since you are only doing one place a day and likely not doing a lot of intercity travel, my sense is that the Half fare card would be the most value-for-money option. In general the STP is more worth it if u are travelling for at least 14 days and doing a lot of travels.
@@Olliechinny Olivia, I will be going to Switzerland in May for 7 days (interlaken/Zermatt) I have 2 questions, so even though you purchase the 1/2 fare card you still must purchase the train ticket correct? Like a saver day pass or a regional pass like a Junfrau region? My second question, is there a regional pass that covers both the junfrau/Zermatt region without buying a Swiss Travel pass as I feel those are very costly that cover more things that I may not do so the Swiss Travel pass for 6 is an exorborant cost that I'm trying to avoid but I will also be leaving Zermatt on the 7th day going to Milan and I'm wondering will a day pass cover us for the trip into the Milan Station? I think I will need a day pass for 6 in and out of the region so that will leave 5 days of a regional pass i guess 😢
Hello ! I’m coming to Switzerland for a 3 months internship in Fribourg (knowing my arrival and departure will be from Geneva) What is the best thing to do concerning travel tickets/cards ? And is there a card with a monthly subscription that fits my case ? Thank you !
I’m planning a 2weeks’ trip to Swiss in early Oct and have downloaded the SBB app to get myself familiarised with it. I see a lot of routes with a “%“ next to it. What’s it about ?
Hi, Olivia. Thank you for this. It was very helpful! Can the Swiss Travel Pass be used in Liechtenstein? If not, could one purchase a ticket at Zurich HB that includes a bus ticket from Sargans to Vaduz?
Yes you can, it’s under the area if validity for Swiss travel pass and u do not need a separate ticket. By the way, u might want to check out my travel guide to Lichtenstein! olliechinny.com/winter-holiday-in-liechtenstein/
Hi Olivia, is buying both interail ticket and Swiss half fare card duplicating? I am planning to get to Interlaken West directly from Vienna. It's a 10 hours train journey with 3 transfers 😢
it is duplicating in a sense that U do not need a half fare card if u alr have the inter rail ticket for train rides. However, the half fare card will entitle u to discounts on bus, trams, cablecar, cruises etc (anything that’s not TRAIN). So still worth getting if u are planning any of such trips in Switzerland. hi! so i already bought my swiss travel pass for christmas holiday on the sbb website but i have a trouble to link it to my account, i only have the qr pdf but not the card, and it requires a customer number which i couldn’t find, so can you help how can i link it so i can book a train ticket for free
There is no need to link the swiss travel pass to your account. U show the qr code to the conductor. And you don’t need to buy tickets for regular trains/buses if you have the pass.
Will be in Switzerland in August and going to Zermat straight from Zurich airport. The train to Zermat will make a stop at Visp and transfer to another train that will take us to Zermatt. Do I need to purchase another ticket from Visp to Zermatt? Please help
Hi Olivia, thanks for sharing. I am traveling with a child and I have bought the half fare card from Klook. I have also downloaded the SBB apps but there is no options for me to enter my child family card options. Do you know how do we use the apps with a child family card?
There is no need to enter the family card inside the app for ur child. U don’t have to buy his/her ticket. If the conductor comes just show ur own half fare card. You should however create an account in the app and enter ur details to be able to buy tickets for yourself. Ur HFC details not linked to the app so again, just bring the code or physical copy of the HFC for verification.
@@Olliechinny Many thanks for you advise. It is very helpful. Just to check, are all transport for children under family card free? Will there be indication when a family card would not be eligible especially travelling in the jungfrau region?

Hi Olivia, great video. We'll be in Switzerland in Oct, need some recommendation with Swiss half pass. 1) Zermatt to St Moritz by Glacier Express. 2) St Moritz to Chur by Bernina Express. For both sectors, we do the whole ride? or we do partial? We are bringing our luggage along. Thks alot.
I’m not sure why you are doing st Moritz to Chur for Bernina Express because you will be covering the exact same route that was already covered by the Glacier Express. If you want something different, you should be heading towards Tirano, where you can then see the Brusio Viaduct. Otherwise, if it doesn’t fit your itinerary and destination. you should just skip the Bernina Express. Hello! I'll be visiting Switzerland late June with my partner & had a couple questions. We'll be coming from Paris & was wondering if the Swiss Travel Pass would be worth it. We'll be staying 3 days & going to Interlaken & Grindelwald as of now. I'm thinking of taking train from Paris to Basel & utilizing the Swiss Travel Pass to get free transportation to Interlaken & Grindelwald & their excursions there. What is your perspective on this idea? Thank you!
You can get the STP but please note that for the special excursions; they are not covered fully. The discount u get is the same as the half fare card ie 50%. I think the latter is better than the STP considering it is just a short 3 days.
Hi Ollie a follow up question with this . We also be in jungfrau/interlaken area for 2 days but would like to go to jungfraujoch .. what ticket can u suggest to get, coming from surich airport.
Hi, can i ask, i am travelling to interlaken and . Can i buy a single day ticket to use the buses at interlaken to travel to lake thun and also do i need to scan my ticket before entering the bus

Do you know if there are any tickets valids for days or do we have to take the Daily Ticket each day ? Thank you for answering my question and I hope you're well too !

Hi Olivia, great informative video! Wanted to know if there is room for a rolling bag (22" carryon size) on the buses? We need to take a bus ride to get to our accomodation in Bernese Oberland area. Thank you!
There will be plenty of room for a carry on luggage, not to worry :)
I will visiting Interlaken in Late April…. Should I buy train ticket online or on the travelling day… hope you can advise…Thanks
Buy in the same day is more ex but gives u more flexibility
Hi Olivia , your videos are very easy and informative.I like how you are showing each step. I will be traveling to switzerland hopefully next year. I will certaninly aprecciated your time .Thank you so much for all your super help full information. thanks

Is it true that in Switzerland that there are special trains which can be hosed down for use by certain ethnic tourists
While traveling by train or bus in Switzerland, are any of the signs found in English? If not, how does one visiting Switzerland understand where they are going?
For trains, Announcements are made in multiple languages including English at major cities. Signs are in the local language.
If I have a swiss pass can I board the train directly and sit according to my class, or I need to reserve a seat
Do you have to validate the ticket inside the bus or tram?
@@Olliechinny I really appreciate your answer! thank you!
Hi Olivia, the link provided can be used to purchase the HFC?
Yes you can buy the HFC through my link on KKDAY here: m.kkday.com/en/product/128031-swiss-half-fare-card-e-ticket?cid=13776
Hi Olivia, Is it possible to put my suit case beside my seat or infront of my knee?
Here goes:
Vincent

Hi Olivia thanks for your videos. We will stop by Zurich for 4 days from Paris then go to Venice. Do you recommend us having Swiss pass? We’re not planning to go all over the place we just wanna taste the life of Swiss for a bit. And don’t wanna spend so much money either because we don’t have unlimited time and money. Then we have 2 middle age kids with us. Pls. advice thank you.
Hi Olivia. Thanks a lot for the useful video. I will be moving to CH in a month. Could you please tell me if it is possible to have a card which has travel credit? (In order to skip buying ticket every time, just check in and check out)
That will be the GA card but very expensive at 4800chf++ a year. a better option for locals is the half fare card, this is the one I use personally
@@Olliechinny Thanks a lot for your prompt response. Tickets bought online via SBB app do not need validation at those orange stands as you showed, right?

Hei. how much does a swiss pass person pay
We are each bringing a carry-on suitcase on the train. I’m concerned about leaving it unattended. Are we allowed to put it in front of us or on our lap?
If the train is relatively empty yes u can put it next to you but if it’s crowded probably not
Is it necessary to have a half fare travel pass to get discount on super saver ticket?
My plan is Zurich-> Interlaken-> Geneva
SDo you think it worths getting the Swiss Travel Pass (1st class/ flex/ 6 days) for USD700/ person? It sounds a lot tho. Thx for your advice 🙏
Do I have to validate the ticket before get on the bus?
Hi does TOP OF EUROPE PASS cover all ski lifts? Can I use it as the ski lift ticket? thanks
Hi, I bought my Half Fare Card directly from SBB website, can i link it into my SBB apps ?
Hello 😊 What is the route from ZRH to Zurich HB (via?) thank you!
I don’t understand what you mean. ZRH IS Zurich which is also Zurich HB (Zurich main station)
@@Olliechinny oh sorry the ZRH airport to Zurich HB station
A physical ticket like the one you showed how to purchase from the ticket machine does NOT need to be validated! The orange boxes are only for multiple trip tickets where you purchase six trips in advance and then have to validate before boarding. Most tourists will likely not purchase this type of ticket.
Hi, my wife brought two tickes this SBB mobile. Can I see and save it in my SBB mobile account or will be necessary print my ticket?!

Hi Olivia, what are the operating hours for the public transport? Thank you.
You can check the train timings on SBB app! It differs based on where you are.
Hi ! May I know if saver day pass covers bus as well?
Yes it does!
Hi Olivia. What would be the best itinerary for 4 days and 3 nights in Switzerland to you?

How many half fare card I have to buy? 2, 3 or 4?

Hello !
I’m coming to Switzerland for a 3 months internship in Fribourg
(knowing my arrival and departure will be from Geneva)
What is the best thing to do concerning travel tickets/cards ?
And is there a card with a monthly subscription that fits my case ?
Thank you !
Half fare card 185chf for a year.
I’m planning a 2weeks’ trip to Swiss in early Oct and have downloaded the SBB app to get myself familiarised with it. I see a lot of routes with a “%“ next to it. What’s it about ?
It means that there are supersaver tickets available for that route

Please help
No need. Ur ticket will cover u all the way including the transfer

Can you pls advise if STP is beneficial for traveling from Italy to Switzerland
No. STP does not cover your journey from Italy to Switzerland.

Hello for the ticket on app do we also need to do any validation?
U just let the conductor scan the QR code if he asks to check
If I take a Day Pass, should I validate that ticket as well?
There is no need to!
Hi olivia. I would be travelling around lucerne, interlaken and zermatt in 08 days. So what according to you would be the best pass for me? Plz reply.

Hi, can i ask, i am travelling to interlaken and . Can i buy a single day ticket to use the buses at interlaken to travel to lake thun and also do i need to scan my ticket before entering the bus
Yes u can get a single day ticket via the SBB app. u do not need to scan it.
Hi Olivia. Are trams covered by the Swiss Travel Pass?
Yes, they are covered!

Do you know if there are any tickets valids for days or do we have to take the Daily Ticket each day ? Thank you for answering my question and I hope you're well too !
