  • In this episode... the VR6 swapped MK1 Rabbit gets an Autotech front sway bar, as well as Autobahn Autoworx ball joint extenders, and some eBay special bushings for a tie rod flip to fix the front suspension geometry after lowering. The front sway bar will add some stiffness and reduce body roll, especially with the heavy VR6 upfront and the lack of sway bar on the non-GTI Rabbit. I also did a quick eyeball alignment before taking it for a test drive!
The struggle bus was real in this one. It felt like nothing was going right, and things taking way longer than they should have. I also think the car has a misfire at low RPMs, so yeah there's that I need to look into as well.

Be careful with that track rod end flip. I think you’re supposed to change the track rods for longer ones if doing the flip (hence the different nut supplied. The nut you put on didn’t look like the thread reached the pinch part of the nut so could easily come loose while driving.

It definitely reached, they’re on there tight. And the tie rod still had plenty of adjustment. The whole steering rack needs replaced which I’ll do when it gets torn apart for paint

Also, for the bigger nut to work it would mean a bigger bolt size on the tie rod, which would mean a bigger bushing, bigger hole to drill, weaker spindle, etc. The nut is for like an M14 vs an M12. No way anything that fits through the bushing takes a nut that big. I guess that’s what you get with eBay parts!

Fuel and brake lines run different sides on the gti, maybe why it was tight. Would take your weather than what we get back here in the uk 😃
Enjoying the vid's keep it up👍... Envious of that rs3 noise on track

Thanks for watching! The RS3 with just midpipes sounds perfect for a daily.
I think on the MK1 GTIs the fuel lines run more down the middle of the vehicle in their own recessed channel. I’ll relocate all the lines when I paint the shell.
and yeah, the weather sure beats the UK most of the time!

@@wobjobs have been quietly enjoying the vids for a while, criminal your views aren't more. But that'll come I'm sure
I do love a good mk1 build. Mines a euro gti, so they probably do differ to usdm ones. That said yours is earlier too, I know they changed a few things over the years
      Keep it up man 👍

@@adamk3390 yeah mines an early German built import and was sold on California, which definitely adds some quirkiness!

26:21 I can’t tell if it’s misfiring but on my vr6 when it misfired the whole car shaked and felt and sounded bad . For me it was the coil pack it cracks sometimes over use and the moisture messes stuff up, but usually that happens randomly

I do get a lot of NVH coming through the cabin, but I was putting that down to the stiff engine mounts. It resonates right around 2500rpm. But then my neighbour asked if it was misfiring, and then I heard the audio, and it got me curious.

@@wobjobsmaybe it’s the exhaust but for me when the car misfired it was almost unmistakable. But hearing it again I think it is, usually the cause is the coil pack

@@Crazy_Alex_7667 I’ll start there. It’s OBD1 but I think my VAGCOM will connect to it so maybe I can pull any codes.
