I played ALOT of NMs, and I'm sure beginners did too. Here's a guide on the some of the most commonly spammed moves and what you can do to stop them. Hope this helps - Ігри

They rely on it because nightmare relies on it. He has poor punishment and slower moves than everybody else. The armor is how he establisbes offense but it has counters. Nightmare player has to take risks every time they attack.
@@Kenlac92 Yes but he also has more than 4 moves, and they're all useful for certain forms of offense or defense. A lot of these G-F rank players I fight don't seem to understand that. I literally asked one online why he never uses Nightmare's stances. And that's how he learned Nightmare has stances
I hate nightmare players but I believe all is fair in ranked as long as it isn't an exploit, hack, or anything outside the bounds of the gameplay mechanics. It pisses me off when people rely on ringing me out, this nightmare spam, and that one 2b combo but again, as long as it's within the game's mechanics, I can't fault them for it. In ranked, all sweating is fair game.

Thank you for this. Fought my first spammy NM just yesterday and couldn't believe what he was getting away with. It sucked cause i didn't know any of this and then he still only managed to win by 1 hit when we were both 1 hit away from death on the final round. The salt i felt....

Nightmare is my main character and I always noticed his weakness in very close ranges. BTW this guide is ok vs a normal nightmare, high rank nightmares usually choose armor instead of blocks or RE. A little advise for those who want to follow this guide: using lows to stop nightmare is OK but beware, if nightmare block a low attack, his rising moves are strong punishes. Another way to prevent armor is charged attacks. The best way to interrupt nightmare moves is to catch him while he changes stances, there are a lot of windows where he is very vulnerable.
As a Nightmare Main, i am sorry for the people spaming those moves and making life harder for others.

@@raymondcampusano2991 Is isn't exactly learning how to play in general. It is learning how to play AGAINST NIGHTMARE. It isn't cut and dry on how to deal with it. Otherwise there wouldn't really be a need for this video. And the tutorials don't tell you how to deal with specific nightmare moves. So how's about we get off our high horse and try to understand why a noob is considered a noob? If fighting games were that simple then everyone would play them. Hence a reason the FGC is shrinking. These games have a level of complexity and talking down to folks doesn't help.
@@cp24eva there is something called training mode where you can make a character repeat a move a thousand times so you can find out what to do against that move, I think you dont have to be a fighter genius to know that.

Yo this guide really fixed up my game, nightmare was always my worst match up (now there's 2b which is a whole other issue but still) and this has helped me deal with most of them who just use the same 4 moves for infinity. Thank you so much
I'm glad it helped! Just know this guide is ment for vs beginner nightmares; at D ranks and above, they will slowly start to do more advance things, so adapting beyond this guide will be needed!

Oh my God, THANK YOU FOR THIS! I just fought a Nightmare spamming these moves. And, I kept getting hit with the super armor.... Now I know to use lows against it. (I honestly thought it countered all attacks. But seriously, it felt shitty getting cheated out of a win because they kept using these moves over and over.)
Yeah, gotta do lows!!! Also, if they insist one like 6B or 6K after things, having small pauses or step/duck is a good option too! I like if that try to spam the punch vs my sophie cuz I get a 90 damage lethal hit punish :)

I'm a Taki and Raphael main. What I like about SC6 is that there are so many ways to use defense. I couldn't stand the system used in SC5. Players would always spam repeatedly with Nightmare or just use Ivy.
As a nightmare and taki player, you have no idea how good you have it.
Thank you I needed these tip for my Xianghua. I feels so hard to close the gap on NM sometimes cuz he has fast long range moves. Also how do you deal with Nightmares soul charge move where he swings is sword horizontally multiple that causes guard break?
The whole string jails once blocked so there really isn't much you can do. Most character's good soul charge moves do something similar, so it's sorta evens out. The only thing you can really do is to keep an eye on his stance. He only is able to do the horizontal slashes when he has the sword behind his back, so if you see that stance, it maybe a good time for you to poke him out, or if you have meter, activate your own soul charge to knock him out of it (or use your CE if he goes into any stance, he can't block lol)

Taki main. I don't have an issue with most of this, the only thing I feel is super cheap is that 4kk while I'm on the ground. It seems like no matter what I do I get lifted off the ground into an infinite loop until ko or ro. I currently have over 13,000 RP so I'm not terrible. Just having a terrible time with that one move. Any advice
Hold guard? That move should not combo into it self. Also duck second hit on block.
Huh, well I just started this game on xbox, and chose nightmare for my first custom, as it seemed to be the only one to click well with me. So~! knowing the weaknesses of spamming my moves 'oughta keep me from spiraling into the life of a spammer. So, thanks for this!
This is a god-send. A friend of mine likes to be gay and spammy with Nightmare and I'm determined to push his shit in until he realizes the same bullshit tricks won't work on me any longer and he'll actually have to git gud or stop picking bullshit. I actually respect his Ivy, but he just trolls with Nightmare and I'm tired of that shit lol. Thanks fam.
Can you use Special-Lows to beat his Revenge attacks or does it have to be a true low?
Not sure, but all signs point to yes. I'll test when I have access to the game (Currently on a short trip)
NM is also susceptible to reversal edge on a lot of his moves

If you are upclose, throws or quick lows, a little bit away 2K, or small sidesteps. Also I think if you have frame advantage, single hits that does 21+ damage also beats out the bubble armor, so finding your fastest attacks that does atlease that much is a good idea.

great tip my dude. but you need to remember that there some character explain like talim that doesn't have reach to counter him. but nightmare is very easy to beat. you cant also use guard break as well. it does more dmg and well lethal too

i main cassandra and i lost 20 matches straight to a nightmare online and in the last match i won because during the match i started to do lows to stop the explotion move and won and the he disconnect 😂
by the way break attacks dont work agains the explotion??
It does, but many break attacks maybe too slow if they do the manual explosion, or the armor move itself hits you first.

Don't know why people freak out so much about nightmare. He's easily side stepped and most situations. Also blocking is a nice mechanic.
Because in every fighting game people bitch about the noob stompers. Nightmare in this case. And they completely ignore the actual end game broken characters. Why? Because people are fucking idiots.

I am playing nightmare at 14000 RP and I am getting my ass handed to me. I literally have no chance against Siegfrieds, Sophitias, Ivys and Grohs. Nightmare dominates the low ranks sure. But it's really fucking hard at 10k+ here for us nightmare mains.

I've been playing as Sophitia, and while I feel I know her moves really well, I just get stuck by mixups that I can't seem to defend against.
I feel like I need a complete anti cheese guide. This stuff about nightmare is perfect. At my local it was Geralt's guard impact that eliminated me, and of course there's Ivy...

Yeah, once you understand how those moves work and the proper punish each time with your character, and visually seeing the RE startup and stepping, alot of those BS tactics will eventually lose to your learning, and at C+ ranks you'll hardly see people do those at all. Good luck!
What pissing me off most about Knightmare is he probably do all moves on the fly but you ha to do monkey backflips and everything else just land some damage while he juggling you around with ease.

As a c5 ranked NM main, I can safely say life gets much harder for him once you actually understand the game. Still get griefed by fast mid-close ranged characters....and Ivy.

Nightmare counters spammers hard, but is hard countered by people who can pressure effectively.
As a Nightmare main, i admit i'm a bit disappointed with the two punches attacks who now triggers the grab immediately. I mean sure it is cool and it does damage but it's also really easy to spam. In previous soulcalibur, the two punches were good when you had a faster opponent getting too close from you. Though i didn't knew peoples would be dumb enough to spam the energy attack, i mean, it leaves Nightmare way too open for damages.
You can always just do K. That's the old forward k in the old games, still fast. Even back then the two punches were duckable on reaction with the same punish, and didn't have the mid option to stop people from ducking.
Also the energy attacks are still good because if you use them properly, it gives nightmare access to soul charged attacks without meter, which are damaging and opens up more combo damage and most of them are safe and have guard break abilities which goes through reversal edge and guard impact in this game.
With proper activation, like after an aGa knock back, he can get great chip damage after and poke with safer moves for really good ranged pressure, which is the proper way to play him. Most sub 10,000 ranked points nightmares right now do unsafe stuff in this boxes video, so hopefully newbies will start punishing all this stuff properly and the bad nm players and the newbies both will start raising the level of their strategy at point.

Annoying to deal with at low level but I personnally find other characters with fast startup moves much more annoying.

It's not too bad once you get the hang of what the attacks look like, the rest is repeated, proper practice on what to do.
With Ivy one of her best moves for situations like that is 214B, its fast and she side steps.
Just have to practice and use what you learned.
6K is high. I wish it was mid but it is a high move.
I still think that aura spam is overpowered as fuck. There were so many situations in which I am in middle of combo, he didn't guard properly. I hit him 2 out of 3 cause as I am about to do the third one which will knock him on the ground for some additional harassment his aura blast me out of nowhere. My combo isn't finished, despite him not blocking any of my hits. I am on the ground and then comes the "no get up" treatment bullshit for which is nightmare famous. It is like a safe heaven for any situation. Oh I am on a ground, being harassed. No problem...Aura....oh some player is doing some complicated combo that I don't know how to guard, no problem....aura....Oh he didn't do low kick, aura. What's that? That looks like your mom? Aura! Aura! Aura!It is beyond retarded with his aura. At least Siegfried can't spam it cause he has to actually charge the bloody thing. I don't mind the aura itself. I mind the broken "stop me in middle of hitting you" mechanics that follows it.

Complaining about the nightmare spammers but let’s get on the ivy ass holes who keep picking you upside down and flinging you off the map? Or the asteroth grab spammers . Or the zesalemel spammers who just try to flip you back in forth ? the only reason why nightmare is an issue is because of his reach and he takes damage . point is about 90% of the people who play soul calibur use 1 to 3 moves and constantly try to trap opponents so if anyone is going to make a video on spamming make sure it’s with every character you can spam with not just nightmare it’s not very hard to defeat a nightmare.

I don’t care if they nerf him, it just pisses me off that people who play like that have MASSIVE egos and act like they’re pros. I love the arrogance and the overly inflated egos on ranked with abusable characters. It’s humorous but also frustrating at the same time.

I’ve been a Raph main and I’ve had people stomp me and then act all superior. In 4 and 5 he was a pretty awful character, so I got shit on a lot. I’ve dealt with a lot of ass clowns who don’t know how to play outside the realm of “cheap and easy”. Now that Raphael is a bit better I get to deal with it less on ranked.

This move is fucking awful. I firmly believe no character should have majority of their attacks get a free counter just because a non-stun attack or low. Its absolutely irritating for the same moves to be overcharged and still get the counter. I sincerely hate Nightmare which this fucking bubble ruins all my fun or plans just because one attack wasn't able to break through.
Wow seeing a breakdown of how little effort a Nightmare main goes through to do the insane amounts of damage he does is eye opening, not all that surprising though considering half his moves should literally just have a unique tag called "AUTO", your opponent had the audacity to get in range of you and exploit your weakness and you let them? "AUTO" Bubble fixes that. Your attacks are too slow and interruptible because you're literally swinging a greatsword and they should be? "AUTO" armour frames on basic move strings fixes that, Most chosen online and in tournaments too for very obvious reasons, igaf they ever fix his cheap moveset issues, after all he's the edge poster boy might aswell give him some crutch to stand on but for the love of god if they don't nerf his damage and the damage of some other characters this game is gonna SUCK to watch or play might aswell have paid 60 quid for a Nightmare solo game, Starring Nightmare, Directed by Nightmare with special guest credit going to you guessed it Nightmare.
I had 10 matches the other week and 8/10 of them were Nightmare or his half-clone Siegfried, safe to say until they look into some stuff the games already K.O'd itself in my opinion, from the get go you can feel a lack of focus on balance and a strong philosophy of "If everybody's powerful nobody's weak" but a severely poor execution of that philosophy.
The issue is that Nightmare is among the easiest the punish and hard counter in the game if you pressure him, or if the Nightmare isn't perfect 100% of the time.
Nightmare is taking risks literally all the time, he has VERY few safe moves, and they lead to nothing. Nightmare has to rely on very honest mixups and the opponent being bad.
This is why he is good at low ranks, but among the hardest to play at high ranks.
@@somethingsomething9006 after playing as him and literally never losing to people who clearly labbed characters while doing his most outrageous things and not even looking at his moveset I can safely say a lack of safe moves as a tradeoff to kill most opponents in about 4 hits is probably the lightest definition of tradeoff I've ever experienced, I remember when Nightmares tradeoff to having shit safe moves was his ability to keep his opponent out of punish range using a giant zweihander of a weapon, now his tradeoff is unsafe but wins with minimal input to damage ratio, turns out its equally unfun playing him as it is playing against him you could go eat dinner and still win with the guy

You've made it clear that you never fought someone who "clearly" labbed Nightmare
After 10000 RP, you fight people who actually know what they're doing. They react to Nightmare's absurdly slow lows, they side step accordingly, and force Nightmare to play horizontally, which is his biggest weakness. They also know how to apply pressure in a safe and consistent way, making mashing of armor moves almost impossible.
Nightmare may he the easiest character by far in low ranks or against noobs, but he is by far among the hardest at the higher ranks.
His stance dance isn't as mix up intensive as Siegfried's, meaning he is very limited in that regard, which is his best strategy at high levels.
His good lows are all slow and are only accessible in stances, which is a risk in itself.
Nightmare, by design, is a mid range whiff punishing character. He sucks horribly at close range, and is pretty garbage against good players.
Every Soul Calibur game has this phenomenon where everyone thinks Nightmare is OP, but always is in honest B tier.
@@somethingsomething9006 He's been classed at S tier in multiple SC games but so far I've yet to meet anyone who's actually willing to admit that as fact despite tier lists showing it to be true, regardless whether everything you say is true or not Nightmare and a considerable amount of the cast of SC6 aren't all that fun to fight as or against, what's the point of a game if it isn't fun? I genuinely see this becoming nothing but a cosplay fighter where you can face spongebob off against galactus that's really all the appeal that's left for me anyways and I do play fighting games seriously so imagine what a casual player feels like

Nightmare was S tier in SC2, I will give you that, but other games?
Please don't tell me you get that off of something like EventHubs, because that is by far the worst place you could ever look for a good tier list since it's made by communities and not pros who understand the game better.
Nightmare, outside of 2, has always started off S tier, then down the line, degraded to B, maybe low A.
I disagree with the 'not fun to fight against' part as I've gotten far enough in rank to get away from spammers for the most part, and find people who know how to play their characters properly, making matches far more entertaining since there's more skill involved.
The only character that, at times, is still unfun to fight against is probably a good Ivy, but that's because she is so good when someone has the insane skill to utilize her to the fullest. It's not unfair, it's just near impossible to fight against it lol
I have been a nightmare since soul Calibur 2 I beat legendary souls on the fifth game which took me a long time. This guy is trash and is making the game not fun to play. If you are so desperate to win by spamming then you need to play something else
