1 year ago made a commitment to myself when i earn my 1st salary am going to send some thing as contribution to this amazing channel, and finally did it. Feeling complete and going to contribute more later.
I dont know what your process of recording is but it seems organic and structured at the same time. Which is amazing. You guys are doing a great job at these discussions! Giving a lot of book recs too! Keep doing what you are doing!
54:11 it is based on insecurity. Someone in science will not have depth knowledge of the culture around them. Hence they're drawn to hindutva. Someone in the arts has no depth knowledge of sciences. Hence they're drawn to atheism/secularism. These narratives are built on insecurity. Instead of just learning from everyone and being left with only love.
@@cokedupnormies2651 unfortunately, a superficial analysis. traditionally, hindus have neither seen nor approached "science" as a totalizing force that needs to be implemented onto the world come hell or highwater. thus they can easily traverse the scientific world" without becoming rootless. this is in contrast to the west and westernized thinkers who approach "science" as a totalizing religion and that is indeed because during the enlightenment, religion tried to colonize the material world, technology etc. what emerged was "science". science is a legalistic framework of cultural appropriation by religion. you need look no further than "allopathic" or scientific appropriation of all traditional medicines using minimal plausibility constructs. watched till the end, quite an intriguing conversation as always! really appreciate content of this quality. Would like to see this reach more people. I don't know if its a conscious choice from your end to not sensationalize the content (I appreciate the civility), but bear with my unsolicited advice and use the tools of technology- ex- reels with active subtitles type editing which most podcasts do and spread this "propaganda" , sell yourself the myth of subscriber multiplication while you are at it:-))) because upword's animation potential is top notch. (long time watcher since 2020 here) this channel deserves so much more.
I will emphasize the point made around 1:14:00 that propaganda can only operate (at least as a totalizing, “inescapable” system of thought) in societies where normal relationships (“family, village, parish, brotherhood”) have significantly broken down. That seems to be THE essential requirement for propaganda to take hold. In healthy societies (those not dominated by their economies and still allowed to operate according to their traditional, deeply relational cultural-religious systems), relating (with people, with nature, with God) is the normal source of meaning and fulfillment for people. Only when people can no longer find meaning and fulfillment in that healthy way do they become susceptible to the unhealthy substitute fulfillments promised by propagandists (as discussed at 1:30:00). Without it, propaganda would have nothing to offer and would be of no interest to people-so they could not be drawn into its totalizing system of thought. Unfortunately, our lives are being dominated more and more by the global market, relatedness is being undermined more and more, and totalizing propaganda has more and more fertile ground in which to flourish.
Thanks for this fascinating discussion. Question: Do ruling parties in democracies necessarily need to resort to (predominantly) integrative propaganda, or are there conditions under which they can resort to agitational propaganda?
Great question. It is in the interest of ruling party to keep their propaganda predominantly integrative if their politics align with the beliefs of the masses, which brought them to power in the first place. But if they are compelled by circumstances (powerful institutions and global pressures) to go against the aspirations of the electorate, then they need to go for agitational propaganda.
Make another channel with all of the tactics in mind that gets the attention of genz and such viewers and share clips that way. Otherwise such brilliant podcasts seem like efforts wasted.
