    I found what I'm pretty sure is a Californian quail egg. I tried candling it, and found that it was clear/yellowish looking. I figure that's a bad thing, but I thought I'd check because I don't know a whole lot about eggs. thanks

    I know this is super old but was very helpful.. I’m wondering if the ones with a dark spot turned into anything.. I’m on day 6 and have several with lots of clear development and 3 that have a dark spot but no veins that I can see..

      Just keep checking. My dark spots with no veins usually are duds.

    I'll leave them for now until I'm sure but I didn't want her to sit for too long if they weren't going to hatch, she's getting on and it isn't great for her. She's a Light Sussex and the eggs are Buff Orpington.

    Thanks for your video. I'm assuming this also applies for dove eggs? The egg is about half inch I candled the dove egg it looks like top end air the bottom of the egg looks dark. I can not see any veins. The age of the egg would be about 10 - 12 days...I'm thinking it died? Thoughts?

    • @mommymilestones
      @mommymilestones  6 років тому +2

      I have never candled Dove eggs. You should see veins by 10-12 days but sometimes I wait 14-15 days to be sure. Dark shelled eggs can be hard to see anything.

    What do you mean, "they sat too long"? I think you're referring to no viable eggs, but sat too long where?

    I found a tiny light blue egg outside 2 weeks ago, how can I tell if it is dead or alive or what? I’ve kept it warm st 50celcius ?

    • @mommymilestones
      @mommymilestones  6 років тому

      That sounds like a robins egg. If you keep it warm you should see the red veins after 7 days if it is fertile. Otherwise it is a dud. If it did hatch how would you feed it?

    Hey there. My hen had 8 babies she hatched but theres 3 eggs left. I candled them and they are all watery inside. Like i can watch the darker spot move like water. Are these bad?

    • @mommymilestones
      @mommymilestones  2 роки тому

      Likely yes, all eggs should hatch within a day or two of the others.

      It takes 21 days. You hands are not going to work out for that lon. You can check again in a week and 2 weeks for signs of life.

    Can you eat the infertile eggs after being in the incubator for a week?

    • @mommymilestones
      @mommymilestones  10 років тому +9

      Salmonella. Your incubator is set for 99-102 degrees Ferheinheit. It's a breeding ground for bacteria. Toss them out and wash your hands afterwards.

    Hey, not sure if you will reply since this post is pretty old but I just found two eggs, one I’m pretty sure is dead the other I think may be alive. The one that is alive I believe is a morning doves egg and it has a small white circle inside with a yellow circle inside the white one with a air sac at the bottom, the other one which I believe is dead I think is a goldfinch, it has a large yellow area with a larger air sac and I have them on a heating pad, are they definitely dead or alive cause I’m not sure.

    If the egg has the yolk and a small space like the air sac at the bottom can it be incubated (I've never put it in the incubator)

    • @mommymilestones
      @mommymilestones  7 років тому

      Jahseh Onfroy Yes. The older the egg the bigger the air sac. Fresh eggs best, up to 7 days at room temperature.

      mommymilestones my chicken just laid the egg today and I was thinking about adding it but I wasn't sure if it would work cause you could see the yolk

    My sister found a sparrow egg and the mum has died. Half the egg has spidery veins and looks like it should in the videos. But the other half looks empty. My sister felt a heart beat coming from the egg though - what should I do? Please help us

    • @mommymilestones
      @mommymilestones  6 років тому

      If it hatches how will you feed it? Do you have another bird to foster it? A light bulb will give it enough heat in the mean time but you also need moisture. A wet sponge helps. Put it all together in a shoe box and see what happens. Maybe baby chick food would be ok.

      How will.you no it's celcious I have put my in incubator for 30 days now still no hatching . when you break the egg its still the yoke and sack

    • @mommymilestones

      You can go by Fahrenheit or Celsius 99.5F/37.5C for a forced air incubator 102F/39C for a still air incubator (no fan) Lethal temperature are 103F/39F in forced air, 107F/41C in a still air incubator. Humidity matters as well. I suggest a hygrometer 60-62% humidity `still air can raise a hatch rate to 70%. CAREFUL BREAKING EGGS OPEN! The incubator is a breeding ground for bacteria. I only check them outside of my home with gloves on if i'm curious about development or lack of. 30 days is too long. Toss them out. 21 days is the target gestation.

      @@mommymilestones hey so you're saying that 107f is the lethal point to still egg incubators? I always thought they'd be dead at that point no matter the incubator type. At least if they were left there for an extended period of time.
      I'm on my first incubation and I've accidentally had it spike to 103 a few times(still air). So what you said was pretty reassuring, where did you find that out? I always read of 103-104 as being the lethal point.
