Tie-dye pattern : Reverse Dye Scrunch with Incline Fan (Bleach & Ice Dye Method)

Tie-dye pattern : Reverse Dye Scrunch with Incline Fan (Bleach & Ice Dye Method) project instructions.
1. Shirt is 100% cotton and is damp to begin.
2. Scrunch the shirt up starting from the center as shown in the video and secure with rubber bands.
3. Mix together a 50/50 Bleach & Water solution and dye both sides of the shirt as shown in the video making sure not to over-saturate.
4. Let the bleach sit for no more than 20 minutes. Remove rubber bands and immediately throw the shirt in a bath of 9 cups water to 1 cup hydrogen peroxide for 20 minutes to neutralize the bleach. This stops the bleach from working so that you do not end up with holes in your shirt.
5. Wash like normal and then soak the shirt in soda ash (1 cup soda ash per 1 gallon of warm water) for 20 minutes then spin out in the washer so the material is damp but not dripping wet.
6. Using a washable marker tied to a piece of string draw your fan fold outline and pleat fold the lines following the video instructions. Secure with rubber bands.
7. Create a border for your ice dye project. I use aluminum foil that I shape to the size of the project and hold together with masking tape and rubber bands. The border is mainly to hold the ice in place.
8. Choose your preferred dye colors and apply the dye powders directly on top of your shirt following the video instructions (I use a plastic spoon for dye application). For this project I chose Bright Green, Turquoise, Concord Grape, and Hot Hibiscus. After that I sprinkle a thin layer of soda ash over the dye colors to help with maintaining color vibrancy.
9. Apply ice directly on top of the soda ash making sure to cover the shirt completely. Create an Incline. For my shirt i just angled my rack in a tote on one side.
10. Allow your project to sit undisturbed for 24 hours then rinse starting with cold water to remove the soda ash. Increase water temperature to warm/hot while squeezing the material to remove the excess dye.
11. Open your new tie-dye Reverse Dye Scrunch with Incline Fan (Bleach & Ice Dye Method) pattern project.
12. Wash shirt by itself with hot water (I use Synthrapol Textile Detergent) without fabric softener and hang dry for the first time. After that wash and dry like normal.
