One date to keep in mind is that the Olympics start on July 26th and Samsung is a major sponsor. I would also imagine that Google has some sponsorship, so announcing your flagship phone leading up to the Olympics when you can do a lot of advertising, seems to make sense to me.
I really hate this design. It starts following a more generic iphone-esque design language and moving away from the visor design that makes pixel devices look good in the first place
I'm cautiously optimistic about the Pixel Fold 2, however I'm looking forward to the Z-Fold 6 even more. If those redesign rumors are true, it's likely going to be the one to beat for sure.
It's probably just as likely that PF2 is released alongside another competitor to steal their thunder (July, August, September) as it is that it is released alongside P9 series in October.
Slightly off topic here Shane but can you do a poll or ask the question as to who's has the android 14 update for the OnePlus open ? As here in the UK we've still not had it and I'm wondering if I might have to do a factory reset like you had to previously. Thanks
All i want is for the outside display and inside displays to not mirror each other. They're google. Why they can't just copy Samsung's software feature to have them be separate layouts is beyond understand. Personally, I'm cool with the dimensions... Not so much the camera bump as I loved the visor. I got a cousin who works for google, wonder if she'll be willing to give any secrets if she has access to any, that is.
@@scaryifliteral Honestly thinking about it, getting rid of the visor just feels like a step backwards to the older pixel phones. But hey I guess silver lining is we won't have to worry about the visor getting all scratched up with this version lol
I think it's more likely that either the Fold 2 will launch along side the 9 series or a bit earlier. Either way, it should have the G4. If it launches with the G3, it's DOA in my opinion. I really hope Google doesn't drop the ball here.
They might launch it before the 9, but have the G4 included, that is entirely a possibility. I just hope they do like samsung does and update their software so that the outside and inside display's don't mirror each other and we can two separate layouts. Honestly, that option alone is why I've dealt with Samsung's annoyingly narrow outside display.
@@hobbitpsi yeah... I thought that would bother me but it doesn't. I use the OnePlus Open. It's the absolute best foldable imo. I had the Z Fold 2 and 4 and think the aspect ration Samsung uses is the absolute worst and makes it borderline unusable. I also have a Pixel 8 Pro and had the 6 Pro previously. The Tensor chips are so inferior to Qualcomm chips. The speed, heat management, battery life, modem / cell service are all so much worse on Tensor that it's infuriating. Even MediaTek chips wipe the floor with Tensor. I don't recommend Pixel devices to anyone I know honestly. They're really good phones... The software and cameras are fantastic. But the chips severely hamstring them and Google charges top dollar for us to beta test their products. Just doesn't sit well with me.
I am getting surface duo 2 vibes from the fold 2. Thats a pretty big design change IF true. Not going to buy a phone AGAIN when even the creators cant stick to a direction
They're all going the same direction. Think it's mainly because they all realized that having all Foldable device to have the same dimensions makes it much easier for app developers to optimize their apps for a single dimension of screen as opposed to what we have atm where they try to optimize but it looks weird or off-set on other devices. Honestly, it's a good move and basically what happens for every phone. Remember when smart phones first hit? They all ahd different sized screens, dimensions, and form factors. Then after a bit every single one became uniformed to the same dimensions. It was inevitable and thankfully so, because the Z Fold's narrow display was horrible.
@@hobbitpsi It didnt become uniform out of choice . First off developing apps for different screen size isnt hard. I have done it with react native for both current platforms. The reason why it became uniform is people started copying the best selling device and it was Apple who started many of these trends and other manufacturers were copying them in hope of getting some of that consumer base. Many just stopped developing phones like LG cause android has so many manufacturers but its all the same. Google copying samsung isnt some sort of high IQ move. It is desperation, like the surface duo 3
@@ashurafreedan Have you actually owned any of the different foldables? No, you're wrong. Hell if you haven't you can watch reviews try the same apps on each platform device. Where it works for one, it doesn't work for the others. And sure they could optimize the app for each dimension, but why would they? That's more work and more work hours which means more money to put into the development of optimization of several different versions. Also...Google copying Samsung? First off, Samsung is using google's OS with their own skin on top. Secondly, if you've ever owned a Pixel you'd know, in no way is google copying Samsung. Your entire comment is one of naivete, inexperience, and ignorance...basically it's an opinion and sure everyone has one, but try to back your responses by actual fact and not what you "think" otherwise it isn't a valid debate.
@@hobbitpsi Your entire argument is no you are wrong. Do you even work in this field? I have access to every device for testing purposes. Every app dev does. You don't even know what you are saying. What is this more hours BS you are talking about? What a clown. He says it's more man hours as if adaptive layouts don't exist. Here is a pro tip: app support for devices is based on the amount of users it has, not man hours. It's why we all still support older phones and old android versions. It has nothing to do with your BS muh industry arguments. We got iPhone x users still, so we support them. People pay, we support. And yes Google is copying the Samsung by changing the design. Who said anything about software? Making things up are we? Such a cute kid making things up. Making flexible layouts sure is hard, how is it possible we support old phones on ios and androids, gotta be magic🤣
Too many people read fantasy into almost any report. They tend to forget operational timelines. It requires 3-4 months of manufacturing to populate a channel globally. If you limit the global launch targets, you can fudge the launch date a bit. But no matter what, all the parts need to be ready. Displays, chipsets, etc. thinking about a June launch, chances are the chipset is t3. Want to beat fold6 to launch, chances are the chip is t3. Does Google want to interfere or impact the pixel 9 selling, the fold ships with t3. The pixel 9 is the higher priority. Or the fold 2 ships in the following spring with t4. The only way i see pfold2 shipping with at4 chipset before the end of the year is if they push the pfold to flagship and downgrade the priority of the actual pixel. I don’t think they’ll do that. 🤷🏼.. that’s what I’m thinking
I love the new design I can't wait

Can't wait to get the details on the launch of fold 2 and 9 pro. Currently on the pixel 8p and eagerly awaiting for the launch

Samsung just needs to work on the smoothness of one ui

I know that one of the carriers has put the pixel fold end of life already. From my experience that means the next model is coming soon
I'm straight . Had the pixel fold since October ? Recently just got the pixel 8 pro the battery alone has me beyond over satisfied

I *just* started seeing some light reports of it rolling out there like yesterday, so I'd give it some more time.

Any guesses on pixel fold trade-in value? Would Google give good promotional offers to first adopters for pixel fold 2
Less than a grand and we should be mad lol
