When our local beeman taught our scouts he always taught them outside. Because he had an observation box and a large poster with each stage of a bees life. And while he talked he would have a few boys come up at a time and find the stages that were on the poster. He would give them like 5 minutes but they could only get to go up if they sat and listened quietly.😇
The scouts looked forward to it every year. We could almost guarantee every scout would be there.
BTW we love, love, love your videos

I've been told that our indigenous brothers & sisters would tie a piece of spider web to a native bee, set it free and that made it easier for them to follow back to the hive because our native (stringless) bees are about 20% the size of honey bees.
    Great talk Mark, well done.

Yes your correct. Also the native Australian bees only produce a small amount of honey, about 1kg or less per year.

Just finished watching and, Mark, you were absolutely fantastic! I would have loved to see someone like you in school at ANY age. I'm 46 and I thoroughly enjoyed your presentation and learned some things. I hope you can donate more of your time to teach kids AND adults the importance of the awesome honey bee.
You absolutely made my day with this video and it's one, if not my favorite one, of all of them. CHEERS and THANK YOU!

Hi Quenton from South Africa my 2cents worth is if there is a next time show them a short UA-cam clip of you tending to one of your hives . I'm sure the kids will enjoy seeing you in action .

After leaving the Navy and rejoining civilian life back in the early 80's I became a Scout Master just so I would have some one to camping with. We call it bee lining here in States. Building a box would be a good project for the scouts. You need to get a Bush Bee Man baseball cap to wear under your fencer's veil and it will keep your nose safe. Nice presentation but some Honey Crackle Delights would have been icing on the cake. Yum Yum.

I love when you're trying to explain what the males do while still maintaining their innocence.

I was waiting for the Scout Bee line BBM, what happened?? Swarms Scout Bees, jokes about the badge the Scout bee earns, LOL too much fun. Well done for sharing the3 fun with the scout group, it was great to watch. Although there was some slippery slopes and an Arsed description which made me roll around laughing. Thanks for a great video.

Great video bush bee man , i dont know f i was spun a story or not but i heard somewhere the reason they imported bees to australia was the price of sugar ,they needed something as a sweetener so they brought some bees to the colonies to provide honey as a sweetener ? thinking about it if you have to do something of a similar nature perhaps provide each person with a small container of honey that is of course if its the right time of year , anyway hope the scouts enjoyed your talk about bees and good you mentioned about looking after bees as i remember in the interview with your late father even he said that you were on the right track, take care .

I think I heard that smoke irritates their eyes and makes them blind too, is there any truth to that? I thought they always hid from the smoke.
