- DJI paid me to test out their wireless video transmitter, and it's stupid good. 20,000FT range is a just ridiculous, today we test how good it is, and what some other applications it can be used for. "DJI Transmission is a ground breaking video transmission system for film and television shooting."

Does anyone know how to trigger record on a Sony A7R4 via transmission, looks like you can access the menus no problem, but no way to hit record or take a photo. Any one got any tips??
So you need to buy the R4D grips in order to trigger recording easily. But I got a work around if you don't want to buy those. Go into Sony menu, "custom key setting" on your movie settings, then go down to "rear 2" so you can assign a custom button to the d-pad, on the camera. Then select one of the directions and assign it "movie shooting". I would recommend the center button but you could assign l,r,u,or d. Then make sure the virtual widget is turned on in the transmitter / monitor (general setting, screen setting). And boom!
I just tested this and got it to work without the hand grips.
@@MAKEARTNOWCHANNEL Thanks buddy, I’ll give that a go. I have the grips, and just assumed the trigger will not communicate with the Sony A7R4 as it’s using Bravia Sync via HDMI (widget) not lanc. But nonetheless I am grateful there is a workaround!
So, I can confirm if the camera is also Bluetooth connected to the RS3 pro and you're using the gimbal not standalone transmitter , then you are able to use the grips to trigger recording as that is being sent thru the transmission system to the rs3 pro and then to the camera and not Bravia sync.
But you must connect the RS3 pro to your camera via blue tooth controls first. (This allows you to also use the record button function on the back of the rs3 pro handle to trigger record.)
Only 16,000 feet? Not good enough. How am I supposed to shoot Titanic 4: Iceberg's Revenge? 😜
in case anyone was wondering......geni.us/tRBJ8A
Probably very helpful in the open fields of eastern Ukraine.
Where are you nowadays Gerald, no videos on your channel for too long
DJI FPV lol :)
LTT just released a video now showing more than 6.9km range with line of sight, thats upwards of 22,500feet :-P 😛
Hey guys, it's been a WHILE since my last video. All I can say is I have moved across country and have been working feverishly to build the next studio. It's been quite a bit of work to say the least, but tis work that I enjoy doing......and yes I have been documenting it for the next studio build. I have 3 more videos all coming out in the next few days, so giddy up! Thanks for hanging in there with me.
Its so weird seeing a whole completely environment for your videos. How do you like it so far?
what gimbal are you using with the 600 cause my ronin mx is very questionable
@@harrymultimedia if you have the ronin MX and its vibrating like hell....buy or make an additional vibration plate. I used the one from RigWeels cloud mount, but it can be easily made with aluminum and wire. The MX works if the camera payload is extremely heavy, or if you-have this extra plate. In this EP I used the DJI expansion base kit to attach the RS3 to the bottom of the Rig Wheels plate and then attached that to the standard m600 Drone vibration plate...
@@MAKEARTNOWCHANNEL thanks im now seing this message
You need to bring it to Australia... We have the "90 Mile Straight" road in an area called the Nullarbor, which literally means "no trees". There is not much out there, so no signals to interfere with it.

Damnit missed you again lol. But I can’t wait for that video. If it can survive in NYC, I’ll be even more impressed…
Great video as usual sir! Not something I’ll ever get to use, but I love learning about the tech that’s available.
Glad you are still doing your thing always look forward to your videos they are extraordinary
Love how detailed and fun you get with your videos!!!!
Thanks, this has been the most complete and comprehensible review I have watched so far. Answered my questions about setting up the system to control the camera settings remotely.
👌 👏 😍
Epic journeys ahead.
Broadcast mode sounds insane 😳.
DJI and Sony work so well together
"They will NOW" outstanding..
the future is intoxicating
just got my RS3 by itself and am impressed. Huge upgrade from my original Ronin S. Such an in-depth video, thanks for all of this hard work!
another masterpiece! love it man🔥
This is great. I'm looking forward to seeing the RS3 review and how you found holding onto the camera/gimbal atlas. I have the A set and been watching how the lidar is progressing. good luck with the move!
Thank you for sharing it. Amazing stuff and video. ✌️
Great to have you back and great video… Just back myself from Mexico where 4 miles of emptiness are easy to find - now in Switzerland where you can’t move 1 mile without hitting trees or mountains that DJI transmitter will do just great 👍
Great video and really enjoyed.... LOVED IT...
Pretty impressive! Most of this went over my head but still impressive.
What a fabulous video. Really enjoyed the info but it was so engaging and funny as well. Glad I got recommended this channel! Subbed!
Oh, man! I watched this whole video waiting for the FPV video part, can't wait!
Happy days your back... DUDE. WOW...
Great video Josh, I have been following you for a while and you are one of my favorite creators on UA-cam, Keep it up!
Great video!!! Informative and entertaining!
I'm excited for a future where DJI make standalone video transmitters and receivers. I'd love to be able to run a full wireless multicam setup; as it not only saves setup time, but some situations are just unfeasible for running cables. The choices to do wireless multicam at the moment are a massive compromise; to get a kit affordably (both in terms of initial purchase cost and price charged to the client) means sacrificing signal reliability and image quality, to get a kit that is reliable and good image quality means making a huge investment that clients may not be prepared to pay for.
DJI's transmission technology is absolutely amazing. I'm keeping my hopes up that we see a TX + RX kit from them soon!
Another one of your absolute masterpieces, dude. I'm so happy that I'm getting into filmmaking at a time when I've got to see you and 'Gerald Undone,' Gene (Potato Jet), and 'Best Boy Adam.' You guys are leading the way in showing us the way. By us, I mean people interested in making content and not having to spend $1 million in a studio; you're giving us the tricks of the trade as they become available and showing us the true capabilities while also being a true leader in content creation. Sometimes I hate the term 'content-creator' and 'content' because it diminishes the authentic creative brilliance that it is. For heaven's sake, please, no one call anyone a content creator for just a week. Anyways, it simply boils down to creativity, and I'm so inspired by you guys, and really, right now, Josh, I'm just talking about you. Thank you so much. I tear up a little bit when I get the opportunity to post a comment and say thank you because I am authentically moved by the effort that you put into every episode. I hope you see this because I watched this video twice; in the first go-round, I rewatched several clips just for ideas and to catch specifics. Wildy entertaining how funny you put everything together with dope music clips and stunning visuals, and the editing/timing flow is MasterClass worthy. I don't know if anyone is even close to you regarding this genre, your vision, and your editing skills. Anyways, I spend a lot of time in words on these comments to blow your skirt up, and I hope it's blown up enough. Again, thank you so much for passing the torch to the rest of us, and I know that means something to you, so I promise I will make art. And I will Make. Art. Now. Have a beautiful fucking day, man. (oh, and the wife and kiddo too.)
Oh! My Goodness how cool is that.
I love the Gerald Undone shoutout!
This is educational, funny and transported in such stylish way - i envy all of you beeing able to make these kind of suuuuper long yet short-whiled videos. Great Job guys.
One question though: Isn´t the dual RX mode for FPV (Goggles and Transmission System at the same time) hindering its general range capabilites?
"What do you need 16,000 feet for? RIDICULOUS!!" Love this ahaha
Very good
Thank you!

DJI video transmitter range, an epic story by M.A.N. haha, great video!
Dude, trust me, I love your videos! And selfishly I want you to keep making them. But i can only imagine the explosion in popularity you’d experience if you took this high quality production to something with a bigger audience than film equipment. Love the vids
Holy Moly!!!
if they release a receiver only add on to connect with other monitors in broadcast mode for clients , directors and video village, that would be awesom
Wont happen i am afraid they want you to use overpriced dji parts
@@generationrogue5329 then this will only be used in very small productions. professionnal productions need multiple screens, and the possibility to choose it.
Good Video, I have been searching UA-cam review for Latency Test you saved me the Search, Fantastic Distance coverage but for Focus pulling? nah!! Need better Latency.
Thanks for the Informative video and the Stress test, now I know all I need to know.
Never even considered this as a factor but I guess you're right. Are you pulling by eye most of the time or with marks? I'm guessing by eye. One thing to consider is the latency to the monitor is included. So when comparing to other systems that are latency free (without monitor ) consider it takes about 25-35millisecodns for that to be decoded on your run of the mill atomos monitor. I was going to put thud in my review but it felt bloated as is. Def need to do a side by side with bigger systems to see how it compares. A lot of "latency free " systems being advertised but even the latency on the back of the camera screen is 25 milliseconds--- so how does that compute?
Bahaha love the concrete block seat mount! 😂
Bro i literally dont know how you dont have several million subs.... you put so much work into your videos
Hi there, love your test/review on the DJI Transmission. Can you tell me how I can adapt this to my DJI Inspire 2. Is there an adaptor plate I could purchase to add to the bottom of the copter?
DAMMMM THE VIDEO IS CLEAN :)
DJI NEEDS TO PAY THIS GUY MORE!! Awesome video Josh as usual :D
I'm only doing 3 move videos for DJI. Then I'm asking them for $1M to fund a feature.
@@MAKEARTNOWCHANNEL Seems perfectly appropriate.
Incredible video! Can't wait to see and try this system in person. Noticed a little hiccup at 2:51 though, where the resolution seems to have dropped, or something happened in the encode, or is that just me?
I think that's where it switches to 2.4ghz. 5.8 is much stronger and better quality but for shorter distances. And this System switches automatically.
The weather can also affect the distance the signal will travel. If it's hot, humid or overcast, it can travel a bit farther. Another great video !!
Interesting! I got conflicting data, specifically if it's hot and humid it can travel shorter distances as the signals bounce off of the water molecules in the air. I would imagine if it's anything like the transmission of light, it would be similar to viewing stars--- meaning, on a crisp cold clear night the transmission would be the absolute best.
But the source I read also, mentioned about the conflicting information part as well-- both statements can be true with evidence to support. And I also read the the signals can bounce off of the cloud layer and go even further distances--- so who knows. 🤷♂️
@@MAKEARTNOWCHANNEL Yeah, it's a tough one for sure to get the max range out of anything. I really appreciate the awesome videos you make. I've learned so much from them.
Everything you said went over my head, but I still enjoyed the video.
Hey Josh, would be a great video to do an interview style Q&A about the differences of living in LA and where you are at now. What you miss and don't miss... etc. Good luck with your new house!
Wow 🤩
Dude your fkin dope! The end...
Finally broke down and ended up getting one. Mine came with NP-F plates for both transmitter and monitor (transmitter one was under some foam beneath the transmitter)
Hey mate great video! Do you know what Sony cameras can I have full control using the DJI RS3 Pro and the transmission combo? Cheers
I have no idea what you just said, but it was so well done I just have to leave comment to influence the algo positively. Brilliant production quality...
I wonder if I can pair this transmitter with the video feed from the M300 so we can see the drone's camera feed at further distances. this is neat!
Side note: Connor is a banger video editor. Excellent job.
You hung it in the battery-handle? 😅whyyy, i mean you had the kit
Not sure I follow. Yes i tested many mourning options. In the drone, it was in the bottom of the gimbal to help bolster the 7.5lb lens and give it bottom weight to balance. And in the car tests we did both versions. The best range we got was with the antennas outside of the car, so in that case not hooked up to the gimbal.
@@MAKEARTNOWCHANNEL the bottom of the battery grip where you attatched it has shown to break, ive seen several photos in user groups. The expansion kit includes a base with lemo connections to use instead of the battery grip
Can you do a test the new Lidar system and test will it work on the Rs2 also?
Great video. Disappointed it doesn't allow gimbal control on the RS2 though.
cant wait to have it arrived in Indonesia, especially for me as a wedding and pre-wedding dronegrapher in Bali.
Nice little Top Gun plug ;)
Does the receiver have HDMI out? If so, this would be amazing for livestreams and full quality live backups of footage.
Yes it does.
Take my money now!
That's crazy... :D
Can you make a video comparing the rolling reason Eye ?
Hi bro i havr a question hopefully you can answer it. I use the dji transmitter with dji rs3 pro + sony a7s3. Only thing i dident knew was: when i want to adjust the shutterspeed and aperture from the monitor, where can i find the option? I cant find it in the monitor menu?
To have th opportunity to use this! Man !
Sounds great! It’s too bad it’s not 4K with better latency otherwise it would be excellent for virtual production.
high bright monitor can be used with dji transmission on a Ronin2 to control pan and tilt like a dji force pro?
My experience with DJI’s transmission system specifically occusync 1 and 2 has proven to me that 2.4Ghz is rarely needed. I don’t have this equipment but I do have drones and my cheap drone I tested it’s a mavic mini 2 which I experiment with so I place the drone down on this shelf I made near the road and take the controller to differant locations and monitor along the way, found even through thick woodlands 5.8 was better than 2.4ghz. Consistently amazed at the Wireless performance, specially at these higher frequencies.
I used to own a mavic air 1st hen with dual band Wi-Fi instead of occusync… This is where I think 2.4ghz band option makes sense for some rare situations. Even flying in an area with basically no Wi-Fi anywhere and the terrain is more difficult, 2.4ghz on that transmission tech did genuinely push noticeably further when terrain was limiting factor not congestion of bands with Wi-Fi based drones. With occusync 1 and 2 atleast I haven’t tested O3 yet but seems like DJI optimized it for using 5.8ghz becaue 2.4ghz even in low congestion areas where terrain limiting not congestion limited under preforms and the 5.8ghz signal tends to still push further. I guess it’s great to have another band as a failsafe to fall back into maybe transmitter bugs out or partially dies or got wrong antennas or whatever…. But like to use practically on occusync seems ya no.
Agree. Another problem i have with this setup is that i am forced to use dji only. I want to have the freedom to transmit to a bigger nin dji screen if i want to. 7 inch is not always good enough
@@generationrogue5329 surprised if they don’t come out with a larger form factor, they have larger crystal sky’s that are stand alone so hardware and research exists already for dji so maybe in the future we’ll see something like a 10 inch variant.
Also ya that’s DJI for ya they act like Apple when it comes to that sorta thing, forcing you to use their ecosystem as much as possible possible… not always a bad thing, specially if it all just works. just overly obnoxious when there’s no other options.
@@generationrogue5329 no mine have a sdi out after putting the breakout box on the back of it so before they release a seperate reciever you can just run a bnc from it
@@Getfuqqedfedboy no, im pretty sure the 7,85” is the largest crystal sky
@@critical your right the smaller one is 5.5 inch, I got them mixed up thinking the 7.85 was smaller.. damn
Hi, how does broadcast mode work on the DJI Transmitter? Can several people connect with their tablets while on set and watch what the camera is recording? Do I have to buy anything extra to make it work; like more DJI monitors?
Thanks,
Mathew
Do you know if you can balance the Tokina vista lenses on the rs3 pro? I can’t imagine they are heavier than the vazen.
So on your Sony does the “touch focus” work on the DJI MONITOR???
So any idea on a good camera that is compatible with the transmissions and the 4d grips that will be smaller like a RED camera? Dji said the RED wasn't compatible. I'm building a 10 inch x8 fpv rig with the ronin rs3 pro
As a focus puller how does this compare to the trusty SmallHD line for pulling focus? Their Focus Peaking is my favorite to use so I hope this has something comparable and not just the "edge color" focus assist.
Hi, thank you very much for your video. Do you know if I would be able to trigger my camera using just the DJI transmission, with no gimbal involved? (I am a Canon camera user). Thank you very much
Hello and thank you for your test video. Do you know how many transmitter we can use at the same time and place ? I work on big multicam shooting.
2 in control mode. Unlimited in broadcast mode.
@@MAKEARTNOWCHANNEL Are you sure ? I'm talking about transmitters, not receivers. I'm used to work with 9 cameras HF (max 12 sometimes, only HF, others with BNC, because max channel reached) . I can select manually channels for each cameras / Tx ?
Hey man, huge fan since you started. Tell your editor to change the background music during your monologues once and a while. It’s been a few videos that it’s the same, mainly drums, track in the background and it’s getting a little old IMO. Or maybe I just don’t like the track, lol
Anyways, food for thought. You are stills miles ahead of me, so really who am I to talk 😅
Mmmm this was good
Great vid! In Broadcast Mode , what happens to all the remote monitors should control monitor lose connectivity to transmitter?
You get two in control mode, and unlimited in broadcast.
That's a good question. I don't think it matters much but I have not tested this to be true. I would need at least 3 monitors to test and I don't have 3 :(
@@MAKEARTNOWCHANNEL When Transmitter is put into Broadcast Mode and selected channel, Could you use any of your remote monitors to receive video signal just to view not control?
@@livestreamhawaii if im not mistaken, im pretty sure transmitter doesn't have setting to change broadcast or control mode....only the receivers have that setting. Transmitter is just putting out the signal.
@@MAKEARTNOWCHANNEL Ummmm interesting... I just watched EN DJI Transmission First Use video on UA-cam showing them setting transmitter into broadcast mode with a channel?

Did you repost this video? Or am I crazy?
Lol anyway one of the best looks at this!
Great video Josh! You briefly said that the transmission combo would work with the Ronin 4D as long as you have the 4D Transmitter, have you actually tested that it works? Trying to find this information all over the internet but without success. Having the transmission combo plus 4D transmitter would be the best of both worlds, as you could use it with all of your cameras. And I won't have to buy the high bright monitor separately for the 4D. Appreciate it!
The monitor / reciever and grips are identical and interchangeable. They can even be paired together. The TX are not cross compatible, so you couldn't use this standalone TX on the R4D and get the same functions as the R4D TX. You would only get picture.
@@MAKEARTNOWCHANNEL Thanks man! That helps a lot. Keep crushing it!
Hi man. I've been searching for an information for weeks and couldn't find it. I think you might be the only one who can tell me : Can you control focus trough the RSS port from the DJI Transmission ? Like in a setup with a Lumix S5 and one of the L-mount primes, can I operate the focus without having to set up the follow focus motor ? I want the setup to be as light as possible. Every gram counts.
What drone did you use for the bmpcc 6k?
Bro, the Lidar Range Finder. Can you test if somehow it can work with the RS2?
Already tried. Only works with RS3. 🤦♂️.
Is no one going to talk about Gerald's mention of Titanic THREE? LMAO.
Ummm... Congratulations on the Ultimate Baby Monitor for the ultimate helicopter mom? Maybe? I got nuthin... That is damn impressive, Josh.
Could you use this with the nucleus m?
Can the hand grips replace FIS system like the Nucleus M? Specifically, do they have internal power so that they can be mounted as handles on something other than the 4D? Thanks!
I don't think so. Def no internal power. They connect via ports on the side of the monitor so 100% they need the monitor to work.
But they are releasing a standalone follow focus. Not sure if that needs monitor as well.
Just a mini film crew out in farm country & Midwesterners be like..”Did ya see the deer”?😂
Can this be used with the Mavic 3?
The 4d looks awkward and clumsy af but I still wanna try it. But THIS and the focus system I think I would buy regardless. I did see a video with them using this mounted with the rs2/3. But I’m in the market now for a Komodo so if anyone wants a slightly used kidney… but I saw tilta makes some power pass thru accessories to wire up extra sht
Is it suitable for focus pulling ?
Hi, just wondering if the DJI monitor can be mounted onto the RS3 gimbal as a viewer monitor (using wireless connection to Sony camera) and then using the Sony widget it could also toggle the “fAF focus hold button)?
If it's in control mode then yes. Otherwise I assume no controls in broadcast mode. Would need to confirm this though.
@@MAKEARTNOWCHANNEL thank you. And weight wise, is the DJI transmitter (that fixes to the bottom side of the RS3 pro mount) together with the DJI monitor attached to a side handle… heavy?
Do you also now if the monitor can be powered by the L series Sony batteries?
you did not cleaned the lens and camera sensor before filming..? True Pro's right..?
A VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION IF YOU WOULD BE SO KIND TO ANSWER. Did the transmission system affected dji m600pro remote controll signal (not m600’s own video transmitter) if it did how far did it go before losing signal.
Seriously who the hell is behind DJIs? Aliens? These guys keep pumping the most amazing tech ever.
Anyone got a link to that car shot he filmed when he said he has filmed other stuff
If we de-cased it do you think it would overheat? Seems amazing, but would like to fly it on slightly smaller lifters.
