The Queensborough VV is one of my favourites. I found a new old stock Holt Howard Kitty string holder (with tags) And a friend of mine found a Georg Jensen sterling pitcher.
I had that candle making kit when I was a kid. I made the owl for my mother. She collected owls back in the day. The pigments were just paint to paint the candles. It didn’t adhere well to the wax. I used old crayons 🖍️ to color the wax.
George I know how busy you are, but you need to write & picture, some more books. Your always so full of information & humor ! I try to keep up with your videos, but alot of times I'm having to go back an find all I've missed. Thank You George for fun videos, I truly enjoy them ) !
I was thrift shopping in Canada two years ago. The store was going out of business with 25-50% discount and that coupled with the money difference, I had fun….and I wish I had bought more!
Hi George, This was a fun video. I loved seeing what is selling in Canada. Also, I just wanted to mention that Scott from The Old Curiosity Shop on UA-cam is a reseller who buys and sells lots of 1920’s, 30’s and 40’s coffee percolators and such. He cleans them and actually brews a cup of coffee in them to make sure they are properly working before he lists them for sale. He also picks up vintage cords, for older appliance’s to have extras on hand. In case one of your viewers may be trying to locate one. 💖💞💖
Frame 10:38 Wow... That small table/stand, ( I'm sure its made for a Phone, back in the day ), looks like a Small Child's Podium. I can imagine you preparing your child for Debates in his/her High School years ! ( Oh, an I had that " Make your own Candle Set ", my Dad wouldn't let me use it & he's the one who got it for my Christmas gift ! lol )
Both of these Value Villages are great. A variety of wares that would have me looking for days at all the good stuff. How fun is this. Thanks for letting me tag along with you. Have a great day and safe travels
Omg you’re at my value village in Burien!!! I’m so sad I missed you! I had that Bauer piece in my cart too the other day but decided against it cause I just didn’t trust what was under that rope that was glued to the handle! I feel like a celebrity was here! Haha!
I am so glad to hear you mention Edith Heath Pottery. I recently found out that she grew up in the small rural western Iowa town I taught art in and taught her relatives who never mentioned or possibly knew about her. I have bought some of her pieces for their historical society.
Wild George, oh my goodness. I've never been in a Valley village store. Those are really interesting. I really enjoyed this video. You really do travel a lot. So be safe in waiting for the new video, thanks.❤😊❤😊😊😊😊😊
There used to be a couple of great Value Village stores in Portland one in NE and one over in SE on 82nd avenue, but there is only one left in the pdx metro area now in Tigard. I don't get over to that area too much anymore but I should make the trip. Great video George! Looks like you had good weather too. It's a bit smoky today. Safe travels!
@@TheAntiqueNomad me-too! I love watching you shop everywhere that I may never travel. Perhaps I'm antique shopping vicariously through your videos lol. Thanks ❤
Another grave video always enjoy it George. I have a question. Those little metal buildings aren't those for holding business cards or have I just seen people using them on their desks when I was a kid?
Luv the comparison video..i would have liked to have seen both hauls laid out side by side to see the differences.. it got confussing to keep track of what items you actually got.
You found Buckingham Palace and the British Parliament in brass. I haven't seen those before. I used to shop at the Richmond Store from time to time as my husband's brother lives there. Harder and harder to find good British goods, as the older folks are passing on, and the population is primarily Asian and Indian now and they want the bright shiny new things.
Enoch Wedgwood (1813-1879) was an English potter, founder in 1860 of the pottery firm Wedgwood & Co of Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent. He was a distant cousin of the famous potter Josiah Wedgwood, of Josiah Wedgwood & Sons but their two businesses were separate concerns. Enoch Wedgwood became a partner in the firm of Podmore Walker & Co, originally founded in 1834 by Thomas Podmore (1791-1860) & Thomas Walker of Tunstall. Following the death of Thomas Podmore in 1860, Enoch Wedgwood inherited a share in the interests of the business left to him by Podmore. The firm carried in under the name of Wedgwood & Co. In later years Wedgwood & Co was renamed Enoch Wedgwood (Tunstall) Ltd in 1965 and in 1980 it was taken over by Josiah Wedgwood & Sons, who renamed it Unicorn Pottery.
In the figurines section, there was a gold Ho Tei figure which is very auspicious in Chinese Buddhism. Not surprising given the proximity to Vancouver.
@@TheAntiqueNomad Excellent video, and I learned a lot, as usual. There is certainly a lot of Johnson Bros., Sadler, and "Made in India" up in the Vancouver area. I was interested to see you look at the blue glass piece - I have the very same one and also have been unable to identify it. You got a great deal on the small side table/cupboard - I have found that the Salvation Army here in Vancouver puts significantly higher prices on furniture. And, yes, I think Value Village does a lot of silver 925 jewellry. P.S. For Mid Century Modern the store in Vancouver is Refinds on Main Street. Bart there is terrific. But you may find it hard to find a bargain there - MCM is molten HOT in these parts!
George, I enjoy the vids. Your knowledge is priceless. I just think you might reach a larger audience if u had clearer footage. Good evening, George. Value village had some really good prices. I liked the Peter Rabbit child's plate. I spotted some Scooby Doo figures in one of the bags. That bag would've likely had to come with me. That was a steal on the 1930s piece, with the magazine rack on it, and it looked to be in fantastic condition. From the items I saw, I'd have to go with the Canadian store. That was a fun comparison!
You have a good eye, someone just asked me for Scooby Doo stuff and I just missed it! Canada won for me, but I’d have felt differently if I’d found the silver that my viewer did instead. I might have to keep the end table! I’m glad you enjoyed the comparison, I sure had fun doing it
Who won? Value Village won, although the magazine rack/end table was a great find. They're called Savers where I live, but i call them $pender$ because of their prices and transportation costs. The last times I was through there was zero useful vintage for resale and barely OK prices for personal use stuff. After spending nearly as much on gas as on stuff, I haven't been back. Others I know elsewhere do better, but they live close enough to go almost daily and first thing in the morning.
George, you can't fairly compare either location because its a crap-shoot . A store inventory is based on what is donated. One store may receive a plethora of goodies while another receives genuine junk.😮 And then it can reverse . Im just playing devil's advocate lol
I have good lucknat value village in Canada yes the prices have gone up but. I can still find good deals jist not as common and i dont mind it so much. We have resellers here that Will leave with carts full and leave nothing they will clear shevels just to sell on marketplace to make a dollar or 2 more per item not really knowing anything about what there buying so now i see less of that and people think about purchasing more
That’s right! People jumped in a few years ago after watching two thrifting videos and deciding that was all they needed to know. Now they realize how “death piles” happen and that even if you can make a few bucks that maybe your time is worth more
Apparently you can remove the yellow coloring from plastics using hydrogen peroxide and more UV light. This guy uses 40 volume Hair Developer, which has hydrogen peroxide and a thick viscosity, to cover his old computer and remove the yellowing. ua-cam.com/video/VU7vXMezW_I/v-deo.html

Interesting to see the difference across the border. The other brass building was Buckingham Palace 🙂
